Ciphertex CX-10K-NAS Portable Secure Server Media and Entertainment Uses Ciphertex Storage to Securely Move Digital Content from Set to Post Production
The transition from tape and film to digital media continues to evolve. Large mobile storage and backup devices offer a myriad of performance, quality and efficiency benefits – but lack the ability to ensure complete security of its content. This is becoming more of a problem in light of the continuous threat of theft, misplaced shipments and cyber attacks on a studio’s media assets – whether it is from a production shoot, during post or hacked in the equipment room. Ciphertex, along with its broad line of portable secure systems, addresses this dilemma directly with its new CX-10K-NAS portable secure server. Because encryption is performed on-the-fly with no speed degradation, it is the only solution for videographers and production companies requiring the utmost in security. The new 10-bay portable CX-10K-NAS is aimed at providing extremely high performance and secure data storage for on-set and near-set productions, TV episodic, commercial and post production digital cinema workflow applications. Ciphertex CX-10K-NAS Highlights High Performance The compact, rugged and portable CX-10K-NAS system with up to 40TB of storage capacity eliminates the need to handle bulky sets of hard disks – offering the director of photography and production personnel the ability to directly transfer their RAW digital camera footage into a secure, portable NAS storage system for direct ingest to a near-set production cart or to be used for secure shipment to a post facility for further processing. The CX-10K-NAS delivers a sustained transfer rate of up to 1,000 MB/s and 100,000 IOPS, easily accommodating three streams of 1080p24 at 16 bit RGB, three streams of 2K x 1,556p24 at 16 bit RGB or one stream of 4Kp24 (RED) at 10 bit RGB. Security is guaranteed by the highest standard AES 256-bit encryption, ensuring that the data can’t be pirated or stolen. Moreover, the CX-10K-NAS being VMware ready, Citrix XenServer ready and Windows Hyper-V complaint, can simultaneously provide storage for IP-SAN (iSCSI) and NAS file sharing implementations and allows for extremely fast data transfer directly to a PC/Mac near-set production system via eSATA, USB-3 or network via its 10GbE interface.
High Network Bandwidth The CX-10K-NAS offers network expansion options which include dual-port 1 GigE and dualport 10 GigE network expansion cards, to aggregate and boost network performance. The system includes two Gigabit LAN ports which can be expanded to four GigE LAN ports or two 10 GigE LAN ports plus two GigE ports. Reliable With hot-swap capabilities and advanced RAID configurations, the Ciphertex CX-10K-NAS offers the highest level RAID protection with reduced rebuilding time. Moreover, the dual OS embedded on the DOM architecture ensures the system will boot up. If one of the two operating systems fails, the healthy operating system will boot up and operate normally while repairing the failed operating system. The dual Gigabit LAN ports can also be configured for failover which allows the NAS server to sustain the failure of one network port and still provide continuous service. Portable While large rack mount servers require substantial infrastructure to support and maintain, the CX-10K-NAS remains a portable secure server with up to 40TB by means of a sturdy support handle on top making the NAS capable of being transported by a single individual. Simple The user-friendly GUI interface allows a user to easily setup and manage the CX-10K-NAS without any IT skills. All setup processes have been simplified so that most of the process is either automatic or can be completed by an installation wizard. A S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) feature and system resource monitor are provided to keep administrators up-to-date on their NAS at all times. Blazing Fast Data Backup via USB 3.0 The CX-10K-NAS features USB 3.0 ports for high speed backup to external hard drives. EXT3, EXT4, NTFS, and HFS+ file systems are supported to ensure compatibility with Windows, Mac® OS X, and Linux operating systems. Disaster Recovery Solution The CX-10K-NAS offers users peace of mind, business continuity, and high availability of data by providing the ability to recover their data from disasters. Production Example In a production environment, huge time and cost savings are achieved since the CX-10K-NAS can directly connect to a near-set production system (with applicable GPU accelerators, DVD burner, RAID storage, NLE (Non-Linear Editing), color timing and transcoding software), allowing on-location ingesting, transcoding and monitoring of the RAW footage in real-time, applying first pass color correction right on location and even burn a Blu-rayTM disc for full resolution dailies with the viewing LUTs (Look Up Tables) applied. Acting as a shared storage device connected to an NLE system via a 10GbE/GbE switch, editors can be moved on location to begin editing scenes an hour or two after dailies have been created – saving additional time and money.
