Client Spotlight Choptank Community Health Systems CHHS is a private, non-profit community health system which provides a full range of medical, dental and behavioral health services to residents of Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot counties, as well as the surrounding areas at six locations on the Shore each with their own phone system running on traditional copper wire.
“We used to have to provide [clients] the number and then have them call the site directly.. Now we can just transfer the patient to the site with no added steps! This has helped our business and provided a more efficient way to have our patients taken care of.” -Anthony Pucci IT Manager, CCHS

These phone systems allowed for the transferring of calls, as well as direct-dialing from site to site. However, they were unable to transfer patient calls to different sites and instead had to provide the site’s phone number for the patient to call
directly. The limitations of their traditional phone system created unnecessary steps and impeded overall productivity. Additionally, maintenance of the multiple phone systems was costly and time consuming—so they reached out to Tezla to find a better solution. Hesitant to move totally to a digital system due the reliability of Internet here on the Shore Tezla worked with CHHS to design a hybrid system combining their existing traditional phone systems with digital VoIP service components. By implementing this hybrid system CHHS is now able to transfer patient calls directly from site to site streamlining their staff’s operating procedures, as well as reducing the frustration experienced by patients when trying to contact the correct department or site for their needs. Their hybrid system also allows for four digit dialing, making internal communication more efficient.
Focus on Technology What is VoIP?
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a category of hardware and software that enables the use of the Internet as a transmission medium for telephone and fax calls, rather than the traditional circuit transmissions of the Public Switched Telephone Network VoIP service has been around nearly as long as the Internet, and in the past decade has become an increasingly popular choice for business phone solutions. Largely this is due to the price difference between VoIP and PSTN service as VoIP can save as much as 50% over PSTN’s monthly service. VoIP can be more costly than PSTN service in initial start-up costs depending on the hardware needs & selection – VoIP phones are often a bit more expensive to purchase than PSTN models. The difference is quickly absorbed in the monthly savings, however. So, is VoIP the best solution for your business? There are definite advantages and disadvantages of both as shown in the following table:

In the Community In December, Tezla was honored to participate in the “Be a Santa to a Senior” Program. The program was coordinated through the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Home Instead Senior Care. Many seniors are lonely and financially challenged. The “Be a Santa to a Senior” program aims to positively impact the community by providing holiday cheer and gift giving to seniors, who are least likely to receive a present. during the holiday season. It was an honor for us to bring smiles to their faces!
