Coaxial Protectors CN12-STUB CN22-STUB CD12-STUB CD22-STUB RF FEEDERS TUNED STUB Novaris tuned stub type coaxial protectors employ quarter-wavelength short circuit stub technology. Suitable for narrow bandwidth applications where no DC voltage is injected. RF power and surge rating are limited by the cables and connectors only. Easy Installation All Novaris coaxial cable protectors are designed to be connected in series with the coaxial cable, as close to the equipment being protected as practical. The earthing of cable sheaths at the entry points of buildings is still vitally important. Tuned Stub Type Protection Protection is provided by a quarter wavelength short-circuit stub, which is tuned specifically to be transparent at the operating frequency of the system. Frequencies outside of the protector’s narrow bandwidth are highly attenuated. This gives rise to two major advantages: 1) Exceptionally low let-through voltages are achieved. (Surge frequencies are well outside the protector’s bandwidth.) Technical Information Sheet CN12-STUB (V2) 2) Intermodulation distortion is kept very low. Tuned stub type coaxial protectors have further advantages that arise from them not relying on a surge arrester element. Both their power rating and their surge rating are limited only by the connectors and cables used in the installation. This makes them suitable for systems of any power rating and allows them to handle surge amplitudes up to 50kA. Quality Assured Novaris tuned stub type protectors are manufactured with precision, using only the highest quality materials. The connectors comply with the relevant US military specifications. The outer conductor is made solely of nickel-plated brass, and the inner conductor (including the stub) is made solely from gold-plated brass. The stub length, which is crucial to the protector’s performance, is machined within 0.2% tolerances. The quality of Novaris tuned stub type coaxial protectors is absolutely assured by having the frequency response of every unit individually factory tested. www.novaris.com.au CN12-STUB Technical Information Sheet Tuned Stub Type Coaxial Protectors Specifications Ordering Options C x y - STUB /z x= y= z= Connector type: 7/16DIN N type Gender of connectors: Male/female Female/female Centre frequency in MHz Description: Tuned stub type coaxial protectors D N Connection type: Series Power ratings: Limited by connections and cable only 12 22 i.e. 900MHz Tuned frequency range: 400MHz → 3GHz (specify) e.g. CN12-STUB/900 Let-Through Voltage Performance Surge frequencies (~ 1MHz) are highly attenuated Return Loss (dB) 0 Bandwidth: ±10% VSWR: < 1.1 : 1 within bandwidth Return loss: > 26dB within bandwidth Insertion loss: < 0.1dB at tuned frequency Working temperature: -40 → 85°C Working humidity: 0 → 90% Peak surge handling: Up to 50kA (8/20µs) - limited by connections and cable only 10 20 VSWR = 1.1 : 1 30 Standards compliance: 40 50 Let-through voltage 5kV 10/700µs: 6kV 1.2/50µs, 3kA 8/20µs: 0 0.5 2.0 1.0 1.5 Frequency (GHz) 2.5 3.0 Typical frequency response for Novaris tuned stub (1.9GHz) N-type coaxial protectors This figure above clearly shows that Novaris tuned stub type coaxial protectors are almost transparent at their tyned frequency, whilst presenting virtually a short-circuit at surge frequencies. of tuned frequency < 10V < 20V ITU (CCITT) IX K17 AS1768-1991 cat.
