Coffee Shop Manager Customer Provided Hardware Policy From time to time it is appropriate for a customer to provide their own hardware or reuse existing hardware. Below are listed some guidelines for choosing your own hardware. Register Systems If you choose to purchase your own register PC, you are responsible for making it operable and able to work with your peripherals. We will send you software links and provide general guidance on links for the appropriate peripheral drivers. You will need someone qualified to install the software, drivers and get them operable. Occasionally, even a machine that meets the specs below does not work properly (e.g., credit card processing) due to a unique system configuration or other software installed on that PC. In those cases, there may be nothing that we can do/advise you to do to make that PC fully functional. We offer to sell PCs in part to provide you with a system that is configured to our specifications and either operable with your peripherals/other software out of the box or easily configurable. At first glance, our PCs are more expensive than those listed in big box store ads, but they meet the specifications listed below, have the appropriate ports, are configured by us (saving you time/hired tech time), and we’re responsible for getting them operational. If you purchase your own machine you may be required to make an additional support purchase from us to assist in it becoming operational now or upgraded in the future as that is not included in standard Coffee Shop Manager Support. Summary Spec: Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit CSM V.3 or 32-bit CSM V.2, Intel Core 2 Duo or newer processor, 2 to 4GB RAM, 250+GB hard drive. Operating System: Windows XP Professional, Vista Business, or Windows 7 Professional. Our systems currently ship with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. * • Coffee Shop Manager supports 64-bit version of Windows for use with CSM version 3.1 only. Version 2x has only been tested and certified to run on 32-bit Windows. You may encounter unexpected issues or incompatibilities with POS hardware if running CSM under 64-bit Windows in CSM version 2. Under no circumstances will a virtual machine be supported. The issues that can arise from virtual machines become ‘needle in a haystack’ operating system issues that cannot be supported. CSM needs to be run on the Professional (or Ultimate) version of Windows. The various Home versions do not fully support the infrastructure needed to run CSM and access the shared database over the network. Processor: Intel Dual Core or newer CPU (or AMD equivalent). Our Latte systems currently ship with a 2.6 GHZ Dual Core Intel. Intel G620 with a 3MB L3 cache RAM: 2 GB to 4 GB. Our Latte systems currently ship with 2GB. Note that 32-bit Windows does not support more than 4 GB of RAM. Any machine configured with more than 4 GB will come with 64-bit Windows installed. Hard Drive: 250 GB or larger. Our Latte systems currently ship with a 250GB drive. Graphics & Audio: CSM does not need any special graphics hardware. Any graphics hardware that is approved for Windows will work fine. Audio hardware is not required as CSM does not itself make use of it. Our Latte systems ship with both built into the Intel motherboard. Monitor: A touch screen with integrated card reader is recommended for most efficient operation. Our Latte systems currently include a 15” touch screen (made by ELO in the case of the Latte package) with an integrated keyboard-wedge card reader. Touch Screen Currently, Touch Screens with touch technology from ELO and Microtouch are supported. There are a myriad of touch screen choices in the marketplace of varying quality and configuration. When looking at prices, understand that there are differences in capacitive vs. resistive screens, integrated vs. non-integrated card swipers, ports, bases and overall quality. See our Hardware Support Policy for other monitors. Cash Drawers Coffee Shop Manager currently uses MS Cash Drawers. We support both Serial drawers and USB drawers. See our Hardware Support Policy for other drawers * For performance and reliability we DO NOT recommend the use of “Printer Driven Cash Drawers” Printers Coffee Shop Manager supports printers from Star and Epson. Other printers with appropriate Windows drivers will work in most cases. See our Hardware Support Policy for other printers. Customer Display Currently, Coffee Shop Manager will support Customer Pole Displays from Partner Tech, EMAX, and ADEX. See our Hardware Support Policy for other displays. Modems We suggest the use of a US Robotics 56K External Modem. We have found with extensive testing that these devices perform best for use with Credit Card Processing. * Please note that Credit Card Processors do not support WIN or USB modems. Credit Card Processing We require the use of PC Charge Pro 5.9 or higher, provided by Coffee Shop Manager. If you select one of our Vendor partners for credit card processing, they will provide you with the appropriate credit card processing software. PC Charge licenses from other sources or vendors will not be supported by Coffee Shop Manager. You will need to make arrangements to ship the device to our offices for testing and driver preparation. Due to model and product variations, customer provided hardware will not be certified as compatible and acceptable hardware unless tested and approved by Coffee Shop Manager. In the event we are unsuccessful in making your device function with our software, we will give you the option to purchase an equivalent directly through us.
