As such included in the cold start DVDs is the complete installation of Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® client. This software is not activated to a current Red Hat subscription. It is the end users' responsibility to activate their subscription and connect to the Red Hat Network. The Red Hat subscription will provide the end user with support, maintenance, software, and security updates. For details on Red Hat activation, see the Red Hat web site: https://www.redhat.com/apps/activate Export Restriction Countries other than the United States may restrict the import, use, or export of software that contains encryption technology. ASTi ACE Studio Cold Start Guide (Ver. 2, Rev. K)
1.0 Overview The cold start procedure described in this document allows users to build ACE Studio systems from scratch. There are three main reasons for using the cold start procedure: l
Installing the latest software version.
l
Rebuilding a damaged hard disk.
l
Creating spare hard disks. Caution: Performing a cold start procedure will completely erase the system hard drive.

3.0 Backup System Configuration The System Configuration Backup page creates an archive of backup files on the workstation. This page includes the following settings: l
Options: includes all options files loaded on the system.
l
Projects Archive: includes all projects archived on the system.
l
RMS Users and Config: includes user information (e.g., passwords, lockout settings)
l
l
Sound Library: the library of sound files on the system, including the project's index and WAV files. Telestra Config: includes configurations settings (e.g., network settings, preferences).
Figure 2: Backup System Configuration Page
To create a system backup, follow these steps: 1. In the Remote Management System (RMS), go to the System Configuration Backup page. 2. Check all or some of the desired configuration sections, and select Start Backup. 3. When the backup is complete, download the .tgz file to a local system. Caution: Do not save backup files on the development workstation. The cold start procedure will erase any backup files saved in this location.

4.0 Media Check This step is optional. Follow the instructions below to verify the integrity of the installation media. This procedure is useful if you suspect a problem with your DVD. The verification will fail if a file on the DVD is unreadable due to scratches, marks, etc. The DVD contents should only be verified once, whether you are cold starting one or several systems with the same DVD. To perform the check, users must have access to the sh shell and md5sum executable files. Note: The ASTi development workstation provides these resources by default and is the recommended computer to use for media verification.
To verify DVD contents, follow these steps: 1. Power on the development workstation. As it boots, insert the Telestra ASTi Software Installation DVD into the disk drive within 10 seconds of powering on. Important: If the development workstation boots from the hard drive, reboot the system, and hold down the Alt key as it restarts.
2. At the prompt, type studio mediacheck, and press Enter. 3. The prompt will read, “CD Not Found” as the system ejects the Telestra ASTi Software Installation DVD. Remove the DVD. 4. Insert the Red Hat Software Installation DVD, and select OK. 5. The system prompt opens for the DVD media check. Select Test to begin the media check. The test will take approximately five to ten minutes to complete. 6. Upon completion, the Media Check Result should read, “Media Check Passed.” If the DVD verification passes, select OK to continue. If the DVD verification failed, contact ASTi immediately to receive new software DVDs. 7. The DVD will eject from the disk drive. Remove the DVD. Caution: Failure to remove the DVD after verification will completely erase and reformat the hard disk the next time the system is booted.
8. The prompt will ask if any other media needs to be checked. 9. Repeat Steps 1–7, but replace the Red Hat Software Installation DVD with the Telestra ASTi Software Installation DVD in Step 4. 10. If the DVD verification was successful, proceed with the cold start procedure.
