STEP 2: MARK THE STARTING LINES
• Trim selvage edge of fabric from quilt sandwich with rotary cutter. • Mark line 3” from edge on both short ends of fabric with an erasable fabric pen.
Project Instructions (continued) STEP 3: SEW CHAINSTITCH ROWS
• It is okay if your stitching lines are not perfectly straight. This will add character to the project. • Make sure that each side of pocket finishes with the same number of rows (approximately 16-17 rows).
• Line up the drawn line with presser foot mark for right needle. • Use the handwheel and start with the needle in the fabric. • Sew first row of each side without cutting thread in between. • The visible portion of the stitch will be the serger thread, the decorative portion is being created on the bottom side of the fabric.
• Using the side of the presser foot as a guide, sew rows in pairs, trimming threads in between pairs. • Trim and press as needed between sewing rows. • Roll the fabric, to clear the right side of the presser foot.

STEP 4: PRESS AND TRIM • Press the fabric. • You can lower the presser foot pressure to help with this, however, a few wrinkles will also add character. • Using a rotary cutter and ruler, trim edges to square fabric (approximately 10” X 21”).
Project Instructions (continued) STEP 5: SEW VERTICAL LINE • Mark line 2½” from left side.
STEP 7: SEW SIDE SEAMS • With right sides together and zipper partially open, pin or clip the side seams. • Sew sides seams together with 1/4” seam allowance. • Repeat for the other side.
• Change looper thread to Aurifil Salmon by tying the threads together and pulling through the looper. • Sew the Salmon line (remember to sew with decorative stitching face down).
STEP 8: FINISH AND TURN STEP 6: INSTALL ZIPPER • Using your sewing machine or serger, install the zipper along the top edges of the pouch. • Use a polyester zipper so that you can serge off the excess zipper tape. Make sure not to sew through the metal zipper stop!
• Using a tapestry needle, tuck the serger thread tails into the side seam. • Turn pouch right side out, through zipper opening. • The finished size is 8½”x 10½”.
