Nikkalite® Sheeting FAQs Onto which media can I print with KIP COLOR UV 180j TS? The KIP COLOR UV 180j TS has been developed and optimized to print onto Nikkalite® retroreflective sheeting, using KIP COLOR UV 180j TS traffic sign UV inks. Prints made with KIP COLOR UV 180j TS traffic sign inks onto Nikkalite® retroreflective and nonreflective sheeting materials comply with the European Standard for fixed vertical road traffic signs (BS EN-12899-1:2007)*.
Can I print on other brands of retroreflective sheeting materials? The KIP COLOR UV 180j TS has been tuned to the specially formulated KIP COLOR UV 180j TS traffic sign inks and to Nikkalite® retroreflective and non-reflective sheeting materials. All profiling and initial type testing of the KIP COLOR UV 180j TS system in combination with the KIP COLOR UV 180j TS traffic sign inks have been undertaken to comply with the applicable Standard for road traffic signage. Other brands should not be printed, as they will not comply with the relevant Standards and will invalidate KIP COLOR UV 180j TS output warranties.
Do I need to laminate the prints? To have full compliance for road traffic signs with the applicable European Standard for fixed vertical road traffic signs, the KIP COLOR UV 180j TS outputs need to be laminated with the recommended Nikkalite® overlay film. There are three types of Nikkalite® overlay films: Transparent acrylic overlay sheeting with UV protection (A-cal 142), Anti-Graffiti overlay sheeting with best UV protection (EF 40801), and dew resistant Nikkalite® Dewtect DT 142-S. The Nikkalite® Anti-Graffiti sheeting (EF 40801) is a protective overlay sheeting which in the first instance protects the reflective sheeting. This also has the specific advantage that should inks or other coatings be put onto the surface, they can be easily wiped away with any solvent. Stickers and labels can be easily removed as they will not adhere to the sheeting. Nikkalite® Dewtect-S is durable transparent self-adhesive sheeting with a hydrophilic surface coating which combats dew formation. This allows for normal retroreflectivity to occur, even in wet conditions. Nikkalite® acrylic overlay film (A-cal 142) also has a UV protection property. This sheeting can be used when an overlap of the sheeting is required, when manufacturing large guiding signs or gantry signs.
How long does the ink need to dry? The inks are immediately cured by the KIP COLOR UV 180j TS built-in UV lamps. Immediately following printing, the images can be rolled up.
What outdoor durability can be expected? Traffic signs produced on a KIP COLOR UV 180j TS printer will have a minimum outdoor life of *10 Years when laminated with the recommended Nikkalite® overlay film. The outdoor durability will depend on the type of retroreflective sheeting used. *RA2, R2, R3 material *RA1 – 7 Years

Heavy Duty Roll to Roll System A heavy duty roll to roll system which is capable of feeding up to 70 kg of flexible media is built in the KIP COLOR UV 180j TS. It's quick and convenient for users to transfer media from sheet to multiple substrates within a short period of time.
Auto Media Calibration (AMCTM) The auto media calibration pin automatically detects and gauges the distance between the print heads and loaded media, adjusting automatically to the optimized print height based on the thickness of the loaded media.
Combo Media Handling System With the conveyor flatbed handling system and roll to roll system, the KIP COLOR UV 180j TS is able to print on a wide variety of materials, such as acrylic, corrugated board, painted aluminium, plastic, glass, vinyl and more, Printable width is up to 1830 mm (72'') and thickness is up to 20 mm. Note: The printer is optimized for NCI reflective sheetings. Max thickness 20mm
Double UV Lamp Curing System with Auto Shutter Double UV lamp curing system facilitates bidirectional and high speed printing resulting in double throughput and high efficiency. Two UV lamps are equipped with auto-shutters to shield print heads from UV rays, protect users’ eyes during maintenance, and prolong the UV lamp life.
