is a 6U compactPCI communications module that utilizes two Motorola MC68360 Quad Integrated Communications Controllers (QUICC) to provide up to eight full duplex SCC serial ports. The eight SCC ports are each capable of transmitting and receiving data using RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, or MIL-STD-188-114A standards, with each port capable of being configured separately. The figure below shows a simplified block diagram of the Com 2360 DTE/DCE card.

The compactPCI interface is implemented using the Intel 21152 PCI-to-PCI bridge. This bridge acts as an interface between the compactPCI bus and the local PCI bus. Devices on the local PCI bus include two PCI-to-local bridges. The PCI-to-local bridge is implemented using the PLX9080 PCI interface controller. This bridge acts as an interface between the local PCI bus and the MC68360 local bus. The Com 2360 DTE/DCE module is designed to support a variety of different serial interface standards for each SCC port. These standards include RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, or MILSTD-188-114A. The performance of the SCC ports are dependent on the type of drivers and receivers, performance of the serial communications controller, and choice of cables. As a general rule, there are minimum performances that are attainable. Operation in DCE or DTE mode is determined by the position of one 3-pin by 6-pin header per SCC port. To select the correct mode of operation for each individual port, you install the six-connector shunt in one of two positions.

Specifications 6U cPCI Com 2360 DTE/DCE Module • PCI Slave interface - provides access to PCI configuration registers and QUICC registers. • PCI Master interface - allows QUICC to transfer serial data directly to/from PCI memory. • SCC - eight SCC ports available, each is full duplex serial channel which can be configured individually to support RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, or MIL-STD188-114A. • MC68360 - uses Motorola’s MC68360 operating in slave mode as communications controller. • SRAM - includes 256 kB of dual port static RAM for applications with performance requirements above 4Mb/s and unpredictable bus latency. PCI-to-Local Bus Bridge Generates Interrupts
