Management, an art and a science; Engineering, a science; Engineering Management, an artistic science. This is how I perceive the MEM program I am so excited to get into it as it fits exactly into my skill sets, my academics, my work experience and my long term career ambition. More importantly it fits into my basic aptitude for technology and the newfound interest in the management field that I developed during my post study work life. Therefore, the MEM program fits into my corporate career plan to build a management career in the technological field. I wish to establish myself as a good software project manager and then grow up the corporate ladder in reputed MNCs.

My fascination for gadgets, machines, including electronic toys from a very early age eventually developed the interest to study it further and lead me into the world of technology by pursuing Bachelors in Electronics and Communication engineering. My course curriculum with insightful subjects like Analog Electronics, Operating systems, Data Structures and algorithms provided me with an in-depth knowledge of electronic engineering and its related fields. During my under graduate program I did projects and undertook trainings that were opportunities to apply my knowledge and strengthen it. My summer training at Gemco Industries Ltd, Faridabad and Reliance Communications, Delhi introduced me to technical processes in real time scenarios. The major project that I accomplished in the fourth year of my under graduation was ‘Automated Meter Reading System using GSM’. In the project, we incorporated a GSM SIM in the prevailing electricity meters that continuously monitored the energy meter and sent data at the end of each cycle to the service provider through SMS. The project was designed to reduce operation costs, increase data security and improve customer services. The Faridabad Industrial Association acknowledged this project for its innovative process behind it and practical applications.

Some experiences in life rang the alarm bell in me on the need to acquire higher and varied skill sets to advance my professional career . The below narrative gives those experiences.
E
The first one, a subtle awareness. A learning point, which made me aware that business management, is a completely different ball game. I collaborated with two of my friends to start “Oiva”, an online shopping venture for ready-to-wear clothes. This opportunity to explore all avenues of e-business was both a rewarding and challenging experience that exposed me to the fundamentals of business administration. We could not run the business profitably due to various things like adequate working capital, manpower & cost of logistics. that we had to ultimately wind it up. I realized that running a business successfully requires much higher levels of knowledge and experience.
The Second One, a realization. I did my internship at L&T India where I was involved in a project for Online Telecom Bill Enquiry System application. This 8-month stint was my first exposure to the professional IT world. I witnessed how basic concepts contributed in product development. The industrial training provided a practical introduction and implementation of the theoretical concepts of software development life cycle. While I performed well there and even the managers appreciated my knowledge and work I realized that I needed to go for higher academic pursuit if I have to have the extra tool to stand out stronger in the competitive world. And so the feeling of incompleteness set in. I had seen senior level managers at work and was awed by their knowledge, work style, decision-making capacity and people management strengths. I was humbled by how little I knew in terms of the larger field of managing a functional business or production unit. Thankfully, this experience turned into a determination to better myself. As I planned my future, the flow of things became clear. I had to gain some more
work experience first, and then go for higher and broader academic pursuit next. This was also in line with the advice lot of people around me offered. The Third One, a reiteration. I joined the Tata Consultancy Services Limited in March 2012. After an intensive initial learning program, I was absorbed into mainstream employment as a Product Tester. It has been 2 fruitful years working in retail domain with client, CVS Caremark, US. I am a member of Manual Testing team and my responsibilities include requirement gathering, functional testing and risk analysis. The major milestone in my professional career has been the time period when I managed end to end functional and regression Testing of 2 different releases simultaneously and independently for CVS Caremark account in US, India. Risk analysis and sensitivity analysis were the major accomplishments for me during these releases. I mitigated the risk of poor performance and loss of business, hence improved the sustainability of the online application by developing hypotheses and extrapolating the performance. I was promoted to System Engineer for this achievement. As a System Engineer I explored my embryonic management skills and showcased my strong technical skills. Assisting my team lead in test planning exposed my learning in estimation and resource management. During my career I learnt that the key to being successful is to keep pace with time, and updated engineering knowledge is the foundation for operational level excellence where the real product is realized.

The three experiences continue to reiterate my resolve to journey towards getting admission for the MEM Program in a prestigious institute as yours. Abraham Lincoln said, “ If I had nine hours to chop a tree, I would spend the first six hours on sharpening my axe. “ This is what I am doing. I want to sharpen my skill sets and knowledge. I am sure that the program will be quite instrumental in my career plan.

The Engineering Management program would help me upgrade my knowledge and also give me deeper insights into the operational decision making processes governed by factors such as finance, economics, delivery schedule, resource management, production management and so on. A study in The US will also give me a larger exposure when I mingle with the international community. My networking abilities , with the so many people I am bound to interact with including the alumni , can also help me later in my career plan. I have gone through in detail about your university . I find ………………………………………. . Therefore , I am convinced that this is the center of learning I have to be in .

As an all rounder, besides academics, I have been an ardent participant in sports like basketball and badminton. Being the sports head girl was my first brush with leadership. I also took part in debates and elocutions that aided me enhance my confidence, versatility and communication skills. During college, I continued taking part in extracurricular activities as a means to enhance different facets of my personality. I enjoyed volunteering for and organizing various technical events and inter-college cultural festival “Effervescence ‘09”. These involvements were platforms to refine my organizing, planning and resource management skills. I have also been actively involved with TCS Maitree in various Corporate Social Responsibility activities like blood donation camps, clean up drives etc. I believe that I have the ideal academic credentials, backed with sound work experience in one of the most reputed firms in the world, and with my individual strengths and character, to be considered favorably for admission into your university. I understand that the program requires intensive hours of hard work, and I am willing to put in the same and come out with flying colors to justify the trust you repose in me by giving me the admission. Awaiting in anticipation.
