Control Panel Communication Systems for naval ships and submarines DAEYANG Electric Company 15 2 WIRAS-III(A) Digital Wireless Interior Communication System The digitalized Wireless Interior Communication System(WICS), WIRAS-III(A), has been designed to allow wireless communications for the ship’s crew to communicate with each other everywhere inside or outside of the naval ship, and it provides inter-operability with a VoIP telephone system and a Auto Telephone System depending on system configurations. In addition, WIRAS-III(A) provides interoperable interfaces with an Integrated Communication System(ICS), Announcing System and Shipboard Telephone System. ICS User Walkie-talkie User Telephone(IP) User Ship Operation Fire Fighting Public Address User Commander Damage Control WIRAS-III(A) System Operation Example The antenna system of WIRAS-III(A) consists of the radiating cables which are installed inside of a ship and the whip antennas which are installed on the mast or in the engine rooms such as a large room including RF combiners and splitters in the naval ship. The antenna arrangement is determined by the customer's requirement or depends on the general room arrangement of the naval ship. Radiating Cable Antenna Whip Antenna WIRAS-III(A) has been developed with TETRA(Terrestrial Trunked Radio) technology which is the European digital trunked radio standard, and has been applied with VoIP or RoIP network technology. Generally the main devices of WIRAS-III(A) shall be installed into a 19’’ standard rack, and they consist of four transceivers for up to 15 user channels, a control unit, a PC based network management system, a uninterruptable power supply(UPS) and high-capacity backup battery unit. In addition, WIRAS-III(A) provides flexible operation, system allocating such as the dynamic group as well as the fixed group.   The network management software of WIRAS-III(A) enables to set-up and operate specific situations such as fire fighting, damage control, fueling-at-sea & replenishment-at-sea, flight deck control, engine room control, well deck control and ship operation the mobile users in the naval ship. 16 DAEYANG Electric Company Communication Systems for naval ships and submarines 2. WIRAS-III(A) The main functions of WIRAS-III(A) are shown as follows: • Individual/Group Call through TMO (Trunked Mode Operation) • Direct call through DMO(Direct Mode Operation) • SMS Transmission/Reception • Interface with Integrated Communication System • Monitoring and Control by Dispatcher • VoIP telephone connection through SIP Protocol • Dynamic Group Allocation • Emergency Call • Caller ID Display • PBX Interface through Gateway • Priority Call Main components of WIRAS-III(A) system : • WTR-21B • WDT-16 • WNM-10 • WRT-D1 • WTP-V1 • WTP-A1 • WMT-8A • Typical System Configuration Of WIRAS-III(A) : VoIP Telephone Analog Telephone Whip Antenna Radiating Antenna PABX WMT WRT Walkie Talkie Public Address Defence Network ICS Dispatcher WIRAS-III(A) system monitors and controls all of calls and call groups by a remote dispatcher without the network management software, and the dispatcher is designed to access by the designated operator only. Thus, the emergency call is possible by the designated operator in emergency situations to prevent unnecessary calling. Dispatcher for WIRAS-III(A) WIRAS-III(A) includes various of accessories that users can use depending on their necessity for portable radios. If the power supply system is out of order, high-capacity backup battery unit installed in WTR-21B enables the radio trunk operation for 8 hours or more. WIRAS-III(A) integrates SIP server which manages VoIP telephone network and RoIP interface.
