Xerox ColorQube 8900 vs. Ricoh MP C300 ® ® ® Robust job queue and Print Around Job queue The ColorQube 8900 was designed to be shared by workgroups and as such, provides a robust job queue with full visibility of active and completed jobs, including job owner, job name and job status. It also allows users to cancel, hold, promote and delete jobs at will; eliminating frequent trips back and forth to the device by users who are waiting for their jobs to print. The Ricoh MP C300 has a job queue, but users don’t have visibility of all jobs on the same screen. In order to view submitted print jobs, users must select “Job List” and then “Printer” to view pending print jobs — the first screen displayed only shows copy & document server jobs. When the Ricoh MP C300 encounters a job in need of resources, all printing stops until either the necessary resource is loaded or the job is deleted. Print Around The Xerox® Print Around feature is a huge productivity booster that allows queued jobs to print, even if one is held up in need of resources. For example, if a user sends a print job requesting legal-size media and there is none in the paper tray, the ColorQube 8900 will hold that job and continue printing other jobs in the queue. These ease-of-use advantages are carried throughout all ColorQube 8900 functions, which can lead to huge productivity gains for the office. From the first interaction with the color touch screen, Xerox users will recognize how many more tasks can be accomplished without diving into multiple submenus. With the ColorQube 8900, 90% of all routine copy adjustments can be made directly from the Copy screen. The MP C300 also allows many typical copy adjustments to be made from the copy screen, but the layout leaves much to be desired. The screen appears very cluttered with small text and features crammed close to each other. The Ricoh MP C300 scanning experience is similar to other functions in that users are required to enter submenus to perform routine adjustments to their job. For example, when Ricoh users need to make adjustments to their Scan to Email such as 2-sided, color mode or original type, they must go a level deeper — this is all accomplished on the same screen with the ColorQube 8900. This is a benefit for companies interested in putting their logo on printed output, as well as adding a professional edge to any collateral. The Ricoh MP C300 only allows text watermarks, limiting the use and functionality of this feature. The ColorQube 8900 employs a single driver for printing and faxing, with the most commonly used features located on the home window. This allows users to easily control their document output and view printer status. And, because LAN faxing is available with the same familiar driver, users don’t need to learn another interface. In addition, the print driver gives users instant status of supplies as well as links to more information and support. Xerox® Watermark Editor By contrast, the Ricoh device requires two separate drivers — one for printing and another for LAN faxing. This means users will have to go through two separate driver installations and become familiar with two drivers. And although Ricoh’s driver offers “One Click Presets”, scrolling through all the options under “Detailed Settings” is time consuming and can lead to user frustration. In addition, Ricoh does not give users visibility of device status in the print driver, so a user doesn’t know if any supplies are needed before submitting their job. The Ricoh driver does not offer anything like Color By Words, so end users would have to know how to either create a custom profile, or manipulate the options for each object and understand the impact of each of the settings. Ricoh users must understand the differences in graphical objects (ie: Graphic vs. Photo) as well as what selecting Presentation, Photographic, CLP Simulation1, CLP Simulation2 does to the printed output — not as intuitive as Color By Words.
