® Please follow these instructions carefully. Only if the cooler is properly installed will trouble free operation and customer satisfaction be achieved. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Concord is a range of beer coolers. Their functions, dependant on model, include:❖ Siting either remote or under the counter location. ❖ A recirculation pump which provides both constant agitation of the water bath and a flow of recirculating chilled water for python cooling. ❖ Product temperature control (user adjustable). ❖ Summer — Winter waterbath control (user adjustable). All units require water as a cooling medium and/or for formation of an ice reserve. NOTE:- the cooler is fully automatic, therefore, the electrical supply must not be interrupted (unless access for maintenance is required), otherwise reduced performance and reliability will occur. HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION Keep the unit in an upright position and do not drag over rough floors or down steps. On receipt, unpack the unit carefully and visually inspect for any damage which may have been sustained in transit. Record the nature of any damage on the Courier’s Delivery Note and at the same time inform your supplier. Once the unit is in position, do not move when filled with water. CONCORD RANGE INSTALLATION AND OPERATION 1. General Installation must only be carried out by a suitably trained person and comply with national and local codes for connection to electrical supplies. It is recommended that the installation is protected by an RCCB. 2. Siting The cooler is designed for indoor use only, in ambients between 5°C and 35°C and should not be exposed to water spillage, spray, steam or high humidity (in excess of 90%rh). Allow 80mm clearance around and above the unit to aid air circulation and keep the front clear to allow an unimpeded fresh air supply. Air vents and louvres should never be obstructed or blocked, also access for lid removal should be possible for ease of service. Site the cooler on a firm level support, protect from physical damage and do not place items on top. Locate the cooler within 2 metres of an earthed electrical supply that corresponds to the voltage and frequency specified on the rating plate. The electrical supply should be accessible for isolation of the equipment. The socket should be installed to current IEE regulations. Locate the cooler as near to the dispense point as possible to reduce heat pick up by the product after it has left the unit. The overflow should be sited near a drain or container of approximately 3 liters capacity to collect water displaced during the initial icebank formation. ® 3. Installation The appliance must be earthed. With the unit unpacked and in position, remove all coil caps but do NOT connect to an electrical supply at this stage. Ensure all panels are secured in position. If not already fitted, fit the appropriate electrical plug to the service cord. Filling the water bath. Do not use de-ionized water or add any substance to the water. To access the water tank dependant on the model, either remove the filler cap or inspection panel. Fill the bath with cool, clean water until the water flows from the overflow. Do not leave hose pipes unattended while filling the waterbath as the unit may become flooded. Once filled with water do not move the unit. Do not block the waterbath overflow as any condensation generated by the cooler must be allowed to flow away. The overflow contains a push-in fitting to allow connection of a drain pipe. Prior to python connection. Ensure all panels are secured in position. To allow the cooler to operate during the installation and form an ice reserve, pump connections for still water recirculation must be looped together with the pipe. This will prevent water being pumped from the waterbath. The cooler can now be connected and switched ON enabling the rest of the dispense installation to be completed. Time to create an ice reserve is between 3 to 8 hours depending on the unit type and ambient temperature. The cooler will displace water through the overflow as it forms ice. The dispense end of the python must have the water recirculation flow and return python tubes connected to allow the water to recirculate from the cooler from the cooler waterbath through the python, enabling the product in the python to remain cool. Python connection to cooler. Switch the cooler OFF and disconnect the loop previously fitted. Connect the beer inlet/outlet lines by the following the layout label on the cooler. CONCORD RANGE After python connection Switch the unit ON. This will allow the python to prime with water. The cooler must then be switched OFF and the waterbath ‘topped up’ following the procedure indicated earlier. Never allow the water pump to run dry. Check for leaks from each joint before completing the insulation (after applying pressure). The python insulation should be carefully finished as dispense performance is dependant on well constructed and insulated pythons. The unit is now ready for operation, giving best results when the icebank is fully formed/waterbath to the required temperature and python temperatures are stabilized. 4. Operation The diagram below illustrates the controls. Thermostat Adjusting Knob Summer / Winter Switch ‘Winter’ Light Summer/winter mode can be selected by a switch located behind access on the pump cover. When the green light is illuminated Winter mode is selected. When changing from Summer to Winter mode, or vice versa, replace the rubber bung immediately. Winter mode — the waterbath temperature can be adjusted by the thermostat. The coldest setting is fully clockwise at position 7 and the warmest at position 1. Never adjust the thermostat before allowing time for the previous setting to stabilize. The cooler forms no ice. This facility is used when the incoming beer temperature is low and reduced beer cooling is required. Summer mode — cooler forms an ice bank — this is the normal operating mode. SERVICE INFORMATION There are no user serviceable items inside the equipment. Maintenance and repairs must only be carried out by a properly qualified trained person. In the event that the equipment malfunctions, suffers spillage, physical damage or component failure SWITCH OFF AND UNPLUG the unit. If any maintenance/servicing is required, refer to the fault finding chart, wiring diagram and exploded drawings contained in the manual. Access to the icebank / product thermostats and pump is by removal of the pump cover on the cooler lid. Access to the fan motor and compressor electrics is by the removal of the service panel in the base unit. Only use Cornelius parts for cooler maintenance. Failure to do so will invalidate cooler approvals and warranty. FITTING COIL OPTIONS Product Coils Micro Concord Fitting an extra coil to the Micro Concord is a factory / workshop option only. Mini Concord Fitting an extra coil to the Mini Concord is by using the ‘cassette’ coil. Remove the coil blank from the position to be used. Place the cassette in its place and pipe up appropriately. CONCORD RANGE USER MAINTENANCE Switch off and unplug the unit during maintenance operations. Do not switch the unit ‘off’ and ‘on’ within five minutes. Do not attempt to remove any protective covers. Ensure grilles and condenser fins remain unobstructed and free from particles at all times to ensure reliable and consistent operation. A soft brush or vacuum cleaner may be used for cleaning. If the cooler becomes noisy — makes a ‘gurgling’ sound from the waterbath, this is due to a low water level and will result in reduced cooling. To remedy, the follow the procedure below:1. Check the python and connections for leaks. 2. If leaks are found call a service engineer. 3. If no leaks are found, follow the instructions for filling the waterbath illustrated in Section3 — Installation. The water level in the tank should be up to the overflow and can be viewed by removal of the filler/ inspection cover. Sanitise the pipelines with water, followed by chlorinated alkaline sanitizing agent and finally potable water or as the equipment installer or beverage supplier deems appropriate. This can be done at the same time as the ordinary service lines are cleaned, therefore, no dismantling of the cooler is required. It is important that the sanitizing agent manufacturer’s procedure and safety precautions are followed. Under no circumstances should boiling water or steam be used with this unit as it may result in permanent damage to the thermostat and plastic product tubing. The maximum water temperature permissible is 40°C. Ensure that objects are not placed on top of the unit and vents or grilles are never obstructed as this may effect the unit’s function. The 1989 Electricity at Work Regulations require periodic testing of electrical equipment and this should only be carried out by a competent person. ® IMI CORNELIUS (UK) LTD Tything Road Alcester Warwickshire England B49 6EU Telephone: 01789 763101 Facsimile: 01789 400595 ® CONCORD RANGE INSTALLATION & USER INSTRUCTIONS (To be left with the user) 06 0 138104 PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING THE UNIT II R34, 35 Issue 2 9/01 ®
