All wiring must be in accordance with national and local electrical codes. If you are unfamiliar with wiring, you should use a qualified electrician. 1. Insert the U-Hook between the rubber grommet and the extension rod. The U-section of the hook should rest inside the groove of the rubber grommet. See Figure 2a. step 1 - getting ready gathering the tools You need the following tools to install the fan: • Electric drill with 9/64" bit • Standard screwdriver • Phillips-head screwdriver • Wrench or pliers • optional accessories Follow the instructions for installation included with each Hunter accessory (sold separately). For quiet and optimum performance of you Hunter fan, use only Hunter speed controls. preparing the fan site Reliable operation, efficiency and maximum energy savings depend upon proper placement and attachment of the fan. For this reason, we have included a separate booklet (Guide to Choosing and Preparing a Ceiling Fan Site" to help you select the best location for your fan. The instructions in this installation manual assume that you have used the "Guide to Choosing and Preparing a Ceiling Fan Site" to pick the fan location and make certain the proper fan support and wiring are installed. Fi gur uree 2a 2. Drill two pilot holes into the wood support structure through the outermost holes on the outlet box. The pilot holes should be 9/64" in diameter and 3.75" apart. See Figure 2b. checking your fan parts Carefully unpack your fan parts to avoid damage. Check for shipping damage. If one of the fan blades is damaged, return all blades for replacement. Hint: If installing more than one fan, keep the fan blades in sets, as shipped. Standard Mounting (Figure 1a) hangs from the ceiling by a connector pipe (included) for ceilings 12 feet or higher. For ceilings higher than 12 feet you can also purchase Hunter extension rods. All Hunter fans use sturdy ¾" inner diameter pipe to assure stability and wobble-free performance. For safety, your fan must not hang lower than 10 feet from the floor. Fi gur uree 2b 3. 4. Place a flat washer on each of the two wood screws and pass the screws through two opposing holes in the U-hook. You may substitute the 3 ¾" wood screws with the provided 1 ½" wood screws for shorter depth installations. Be sure that enough of the screw enters the mounting surface to support the assembled fan. Insert the screws into the pilot holes in the ceiling and fully tighten. See Figure 2b. Slide the canopy cover without the Hunter Logo onto the extension rod as shown in Figure 3a. Canopy should cover the hanging components. Using a small flat head screw driver, secure the canopy to the extension rod by tightening the two set screws on the collar of the canopy. step 4 - wiring the fan 1. 2. 3. 4. Slide the canopy with the Hunter logo onto the extension rod and slide it up to the bottom of the first installed cover. Secure it to the extension rod with the two set screws in the collar. Remove the clip pin from the top bolt in the motor mount bracket attached to the fan motor. Remove the nut, bolt and washers from the bracket. Feed the fan lead wires through the extension rod so they extend out the top of the extension rod. Place the extension rod between the two mount brackets on the top of the motor assembly and align the holes in the extension rod with the holes in the motor mount brackets. Insert the clip pin into the hole in the end of the bolt until a firm snap sound is heard. This will ensure the clip is properly in place. Loosen the set screws on both canopies and let them slide down the extension rod until it rest on the motor adapter brackets. Do not tighten set screws. © 2003 Hunter Fan Company 2. 3. Slide the canopy with the Hunter logo up the extension rod and secure by lightly tightening the set screws. Remove the 6 blade screws (2 per each of the 3 blades) from the motor housing using a Phillips screws driver. For each blade, insert one blade mounting screw through the blade holder and attach lightly to the top of the fan housing. Insert the second blade mounting screw then securely tighten both mounting screws. See Figure 5a. 41650-01 08/13/2003 4 cleaning and maintenance caring for finishes Fi gur uree 5a 4. 5. 6. Repeat procedure 2 from above until all 3 blades are secured to the motor housing. Loosen the set screws in the canopy with the Hunter logo and slide it down the extension rod until it rests on the motor adapter brackets. The bottom edge of the canopy should not touch the top of the rotating motor housing or the blade mounting screws. Tighten the set screws on the canopy to secure it in place. step 6 - installing the wall control Know the construction of your wall. In most installations, ceiling fan wall controls will replace an existing light on/off switch. Note: This wall control is designed to fit inside a UL-approved 3" x 2" rectangular switch box. ir ho ck , bbeefore w o aavv oi d p os sib WAR N IN G: T wir ir-po sibll e eell e c tr i c al ssh To nin ower bbyy ttur ur he p he w ontro l, di in urn ingg ooff f po diss conn nnee ct tth ingg tth waall cco ox aan n d aass s o ciated w o tth he oou utl et bbo ir the ccir waall irccui uitt bbrre akers tto s wi tch llo o catio n. See Figure 6a. 1. Connect the black wire from the controller to the AC lines in from the outlet box. Twist the strands together and secure with a wire nut until tight. 2. Connect the black wire to the motor lead wire from the outlet box. Twist the strands together and secure with a wire nut until tight. 3. Ensure that no bare wire or wire strands are exposed after making connections. 4. Carefully insert the wire and controller into the outlet box and secure the controller to the outlet box using two #8-36 screws (not supplied). For cleaning, a soft brush or lint-free cloth should be used to prevent scratching the finish. A vacuum cleaner brush nozzle can remove heavier dust. Surface smudges or an accumulation of dirt and dust can easily be removed by using a mild detergent and a slightly dampened cloth. An artistic agent may be used, but never use an abrasive cleaning agent as it will damage the finish. The product is not warranted against rust or cosmetic scratches. If you need parts or service assistance, please call 888-830-1326 or visit us at our web site at http://www.hunterfan.com. troubleshooting Problem: Nothing happens; fan does not move. 1. Turn power on, replace fuse or reset breaker. 2. Loosen canopy, check all connections according to wiring the fan (turn power off before checking). 3. Check wiring connections of the wall switch (turn power off before checking). 4. Move the slide switch to desired speed setting. Problem: Noisy Operation. 1. Tighten screws until snug. 2. Loosen canopy set screws and reposition canopy so that it does not contact the motor housing. 3. Use only Hunter capacitor wall control. Problem: Excessive wobbling. Note: When switching from medium to low speed, you may notice some fan wobble. When the fan stabilizes at low speed, wobble will disappear. 1. Use balancing kit included with fan. 2. Tighten all screws. 3. Turn power off, support fan very carefully, loosen canopy and hang correctly. 4. TIghten all nut/bolt assemblies. 5. Replace blades.
