Connecting RPSB 1800 Components Now that your cabinet is set up and open at the back and all components have been installed you’re ready to connect the components. The RPSB 1802 is wired very differently than the RPSB 1800. In the RPSB 1802, all components are connected to the SMART X-Port 10 (rather than directly to other components) so they can be automatically switched over to an external PC (or laptop). If you have an RPSB 1802, turn to page 21 for connection procedures. This section focuses exclusively on a description of connection procedures for the RPSB 1800. Many cabinet connections are fully pre-wired for you. In some cases, you'll need to complete a connection (partially pre-wired connections), or you'll be asked to connect both ends of a cable that comes with an installed component (no pre-wiring). In the wiring diagrams that follow, bold lines represent supplied cables that are partially pre-wired and broken lines represent unprovided, component cables that require connection at both ends. Square nodes represent customer-installed connection sites. NOTE: For cables that are fully pre-wired, the numbers in the figure below are for informational purposes only. You will not see numbered labels on cables that are pre-wired in our factory. However, you will see numbered labels on those cables that require connection. This section begins with an integrated wiring diagram for the RPSB 1800, followed by a comprehensive description of all cable connections in table form. This table is followed by specific connection procedures, organized by installed component.

RPSB 1800 Connection Procedures To make your RPSB 1800 function properly, you'll need to make: • computer connections from your Windows or Macintosh computer to the SMART Pen Tray, wireless keyboard (if supplied), audio mixer and power bar. •
projector connections from your projector to the computer and power bar
•
VCR/DVD connections from your VCR/DVD (if installed) to the projector, audio mixer and power bar
•
a few remaining power connections
These connections are described in detail in the sections that follow. In the wiring diagrams that accompany each set of procedures, bold lines represent cables that require connections that you must make.

RPSB 1800/1802 Installation Guide
1
To connect the computer to the Pen Tray, audio mixer, wireless keyboard and power bar: 1. Locate the MOD6 cable #1 attached to the rear of the Pen Tray inside the cabinet on the lower-right side (as you face the front of the cabinet). It will terminate in either a 9-pin female serial port adaptor attached to an RJ11-6 adaptor (Windows #7). NOTE: A direct connection between the RJ11 6-wire connector and your Windows computer is not possible. A female serial port adaptor is required to compensate for the physical differences between your computer's COM port and the RJ11-6 connector. RJ11-6 connector to DB9 Adaptor
2. Determine if a DB25 or DB9 female connection is required by counting the pins in the vacant COM port on the rear of your computer: A DB25 COM port has 25 pins to connect with the 25 holes on a DB25 port adaptor; a DB-9 COM port has nine pins to connect with the nine holes on a DB9 port adaptor.
Cable # 3. If your computer's COM port has 25 pins, replace the DB9 port adaptor (#7 above) with 25-pin port adaptor (#18 in table). 4.

For a Windows computer, insert the serial port adaptor into a vacant COM port. For a Macintosh computer, insert the barrel-shaped Mini DIN8 (#17) connector end of the MOD6 cable into the printer or modem port.
5. Connect the 3.5mm audio cable #54 (originating at the audio mixer) to the Audio Line Out jack on the back of the computer. 6. If you're using a wireless keyboard, connect the IR Receiver cable #6a (keyboard) and #6b (mouse), both originating at the IR Receiver, to the computer’s keyboard and mouse ports. 7. Connect the computer’s power cable to the power bar. (Ensure that the on/off switch is in the “off” position before making this connection.)

Switching on the Projector and Computer 1. Turn the on/off switch to the “on” position. NOTE: The on/off switch is only available for cabinets in North America and Japan. Elsewhere, power to the cabinet components is switched on and off via the power bar located inside the cabinet.
All system components will be powered up, if you have previously switched on the projector and computer. Some peripherals will need to be separately switched on each time you power up the RPSB system. 2. Determine if the projector must be switched to rear-projection (reversed-image) mode or if it can remain in front-projection mode by looking at the image. If the image is reversed when you look at it from the front, switch the projector to rear-projection mode. 3. If your projector must be switched to rear-projection mode, use a remote control or the appropriate button on the projector to switch it to that mode. Refer to your projector's User's Manual for assistance.

use the Macintosh Serial Adaptor (#16, located in the Accessory Kit) to complete the connection between the Macintosh printer or modem port and serial cable #12.
If computer 2 is already powered up, the desktop image from the computer will appear on the RPSB screen. NOTE: You may need to de-activate the internal video port on computer 2 or put the internal and external video ports into simultaneous display mode, so that the laptop displays on both the laptop monitor and the SMART Board at the same time. With newer laptops, you can synchronize the internal and external video ports at the software level, as follows: • • •
From the Windows 95 Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel, and then Display. Select the Refresh (or Monitor Refresh) tab. Click the CRT/Panel option to activate simultaneous monitor and external video port display.
This may not be possible with older laptop models. With some older laptop models, you may need to switch back and forth between the internal and external video port. If you aren’t sure which commands or keyboard combinations are required for switching back and forth between the internal and external video ports of your laptop, check your owner's manual. 3. If computer 2 is not on, turn it on. The boot-up screen will appear on the RPSB screen.
¾
If no image appears on the RPSB screen: Activate the external video port on computer 2. Some laptop computers can't display their internal screens and activate the external video port or external monitor at the same time. Check your laptop computer manual for the command that activates the external video port, so you can display your laptop monitor on the RPSB screen. You can now display any data stored on computer 2.

If the image on the RPSB screen is too large or small: The projector and computer 2 resolution may not match. To adjust your computer resolution to match the projector resolution, open the Windows 95 Start menu, select Settings, open Control Panel, and then Display. Click the Settings tab, and, finally, adjust the sliding bar in Desktop Area to make the computer resolution match your projector’s resolution.
To use the touch-sensitive and annotation capabilities of the SMART Board: Install SMART Board Software on computer 2. After inserting the disks, you should perform an orientation to ensure that the cursor tracks your finger and the Pen Tray tools accurately. Select Orient Board from the Board menu and follow the on-screen instructions.
To switch the projected display from computer 2 to computer 1: Push the Display Source Switch located next to the Volume Control Dial.
