Continuous Rotary Sterilizers Pressure cookers & coolers Atmospheric cookers & coolers The Experience Advantage Since 1921, more than 7,500 JBT FoodTech rotary shells have been placed into production around the world and are today processing over half the world’s canned foods. A simple and efficient operating principle Seamed containers enter the rotary system directly from the closing machine. A feed device delivers the containers into the revolving reel of the first vessel. The reel, working in conjunction with the stationary spiral, advances the containers through the vessel. The continuous spiraling motion and rotation of the container through the vessel provides an even cook to every container. At the end of the cooking process the containers are transferred to a cooling vessel where a similar process efficiently cools them. Labor savings nn Containers are automatically transferred through cookers and coolers nn Machine functions are displayed on a centralized control system nn Systems are completely automated nn Multiple systems can be monitored by one operator Increased heat penetration, reduced cooking time The rotary sterilizer uses an operating principle which agitates the can, permitting short time, high temperature cooking and rapid, efficient cooling in an automatic, continuous operation. For each turn of the reel, the can undergoes a 3-phase movement cycle. The forced agitation induces heat convection and faster cooking and cooling rates in the product. Gentle container handling Positive mechanical handling greatly reduces container damage and loss of product. In 1982, the JBT FoodTech Continuous Rotary Pressure Sterilizer was recognized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) as an International Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark and in 1992, it was designated a Historical Landmark of Agricultural Engineering by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE). Product uniformity and quality Every container is cooked and cooled in the same manner. Reduced processing times help preserve the natural flavor, nutrients and appearance of the product. Energy efficient Operation on a continuous basis, rotary cookers and coolers provide reliable line efficiency and low stream/water usage. Faster heat penetration, resulting from product agitation and higher processing temperatures, reduces the processing time required. Flexibility Process Control Systems Line layout When multiple cooking or cooling vessels are required for longer processes or special preheating requirements, the vessels can be directly connected or located independently. Our modular design allows for easy expansion of a system by adding vessels. LOG-TEC Momentum complies with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR’s) for validation requirements including: Electronic Signature, Audit Trail, Electronic Record Review and Data Storage. Momentum’s accessible, open architecture and software is designed for secure lock down to meet the development guidelines of FDA 21 CFR Part 11. JBT FoodTech also provides various PLC based options for controlling Rotary lines. The options include a touch screen Operator Interface. The screens are menu driven and include a process overview, operator controls for local PID tuning, a customized recipe management system and diagnostic screens for troubleshooting. The Operator Interface also includes displays for current and historical alarms. Other customized features can be provided, such as trend graphs and detailed troubleshooting. Atmospheric Features and Benefits nn Pressure vessels in 58 5/16” (1481mm) and 112” (2845mm) diameters nn Atmospheric vessels in 55” (1397mm), 58 5/16” (1481mm), 84” (2134mm) and 112” (2845mm) diameters nn Multiple can size combinations nn Abrasion resistant steel spiral tees nn Multiple can processing lanes nn High capacity 52’ (15.8m) long vessels nn Metal, glass or plastic containers nn Multiple infeeds for products with different cook times nn Ability to process lithographed containers nn Speeds of up to 1,200 containers per minute nn Lubricants and cleaners specifically designed for the processing environment nn Turnkey installation and start-up services nn Detailed operator training classes nn Construction allowing for processing temperatures up to 300°F (149°C) nn FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliant control systems nn Overpressure systems for delicate containers nn Reduced lubrication valve components nn Ceramic insulation products nn Energy recuperation systems nn Automatic lube systems nn Handling of containers with easy open ends Twin spirals (triple available) Double can handling system Dedicated line system for high speeds or separated multiple products/can sizes. In addition, delicate products can be run at a high speed with half the agitation of a single spiral. Two short containers or one taller container with roughly the same can diameter and with lengths in the approximate ratio of 2:1 in the same spiral. Global Service and Support The JBT FoodTech thermal process labs in Europe and North America provide a broad range of added-value services. JBT FoodTech is a USDA/FDA recognized process authority. Plus, JBT FoodTech has the staff, equipment, and experience to perform the required heat penetration, temperature distribution, and process validation studies in our pilot facility or right in your own plant. The JBT FoodTech Steritort simulates rotary, hydrostatic or still processing for all can sizes and speeds and is used for heat penetration tests and product quality evaluation. JBT FoodTech offers OEM parts for repairs and maintenance. We offer telephone support, online parts ordering, and after hours emergency support.
