The conversion itself consists of four main items: • Removing the hopper from the blender and modifying it to have five compartments • Replacing one of the single large material valves with two smaller 2x3” material valves • Replacing the existing solenoid tray with a new tray that can handle the additional component • If necessary, upgrading the controller so that it can handle the additional component Instructions BEFORE BEGINNING, DISCONNECT AIR AND POWER TO BLENDER 1. Locate the NATURAL (#2) hopper compartment. This is the end compartment farthest from the motor and controller and should be labeled as either “NATURAL” or the number “2”. See drawing below. 2. Remove hopper assembly from blender and remove lid from hopper. Save hardware for reuse. 3. Remove large finger guard from NATURAL (#2) hopper compartment. 4. Use1/4” hardware supplied with kit to plug these now unused fingerguard holes. WSB-940 Remove #8 hardware used to plug holes in outside wall and used to fasten center partion to inside wall. Remove the #8 hardware being used to plug shut (4) holes along the centerline of the outside wall of the compartment. 6. Remove the #8 hardware along the centerline of the inside wall of the compartment. This is the hardware used to fasten the center partition (dividing compartments 3 and 4) to the #2 compartment inside wall. 7. Install the new bolt-in end partion [5560-EP] into compartment #2 and line up partition holes with slots in the hopper. 8. Use new, longer #8 hardware supplied with kit to fasten end partition to hopper. The shorter screws (3/8” length) are used to fasten partition to outside wall, the longer screws (1/2” length) are used to fasten partition to inside wall. Look at the other end of the hopper to see the correct hardware configuration. 9. Install the new fingerguards [509-7] supplied with kit in the bottom of the holes in bottom of end partition. WSB-950 New fingerguards installed in bottom of these compartments Use new, longer hardware supplied with kit to fasten New end partition installed 10. Replace existing hopper lid with new 6-component lid [5560-6L]. 11. Remove existing hopper gasket from top of the valve deck. Do not install new gasket until after step 13. 12. Remove front and back valve enclosures and the side valve enclosure (opposite the motor side) from the blender. 3 CONV-038: Convert WSB-940 to a WSB-950 Maguire Products, Inc. 610-459-4300 maguire.com 6 August 2009 13. Disconnect plumbing from #2 valve and remove the valve from the blender. Remove this valve assembly Existing valve configuration shown 14. Install the 2x3” valves [as2x3] as shown. Use hardware removed in previous step to fasten. 15. Install new insert plate [5501-BL] on top of the new valves so that it covers the gap between the valves. Use a small amount of silicone glue to fasten. Glue insert plate onto top of valves to cover gap Install new 2x3” valves here New valve configuration shown 16. Install the new side enclosure [5G96S] supplied over the 3x6” valve, but wait to reinstall the front and back enclosures until you have finished replumbing airline connections to the air cylinders. 17. Disconnect airlines from solenoid tray and remove tray from blender. 4 CONV-038: Convert WSB-940 to a WSB-950 Maguire Products, Inc. 610-459-4300 maguire.com 6 August 2009 18. Install new solenoid tray assembly [as06] supplied with kit on blender. Plumb solenoid valves as shown below: a. Use new airline supplied with kit to plumb new material valves. Cut to length for each valve. b. All other airlines should have enough slack that you can simply trace them back from the valve and insert them in the correct ports on the solenoid tray. c. Use orange plugs supplied with kit to plug any unused ports. 19. Install the new front [5G96F] and back [5G96B] valve enclosures. 20. Install the new hopper gasket supplied. You may need to the cut the center strip out between two of the openings to fit valve #1 (large 3x6” valve). See drawing on next page. Cut out this center strip to fit over large 3x6” valve 5 CONV-038: Convert WSB-940 to a WSB-950 Maguire Products, Inc. 610-459-4300 maguire.com 6 August 2009 21. Reinstall Hopper on top of blender. Make sure that large end compartment is over the large valve. Hopper mounting hardware configuration 22. Apply new numbered labels onto hopper to identify the new compartment configuration. WSB-950 12-Component Controller Upgrade: Depending on your controller model, it may have to be upgraded to handle the additional component. Any questions regarding this, contact Maguire’s service department. If your controller is a “1212” model (blue LCD display) and you are running a 12-component software configuration, then you only need to turn on the new component. Refer to Turning on outputs – Material Types section in your blender manual. 6 CONV-038: Convert WSB-940 to a WSB-950 Maguire Products, Inc. 610-459-4300 maguire.com 6 August 2009 If your controller is a “1212” model but you are running it in a 4-component setup, then you will need to switch to a 12-component setup. Steps 23 – 29 cover this procedure. Note that this will reset your parameters so you will have to resetup the controller. If your controller is a “6811” model (red LCD display) but are already running 12-component software, then you only need to turn on the new component. Refer to Turning on outputs – Material Types section in your blender manual. If your controller is a “6811” model running 4-component software, then you will need to replace the EPROM chip in the the controller w/ a 12 software model. Steps 30 – 35 cover this procedure. Note that this will reset your parameter changes so you will have to resetup the controller. If you do have to update your software, then supplied with this kit are three new labels specific to 12-component software to install on the controller. Steps 36 - 38 on the next page cover this. 1212 Controller – Switch from 4 to 12-component setup 23. Turn controller on. 24. Turn end of cycle switch to the down position. 25. Enter on the keypad: *86420 26. LCD should display current component setup 27. Press the * key to toggle between 4 and 12-component setup. 28. After 12-component is selected, press exit and the controller should reboot. 29. At this point you will need to go into the program mode and reset up your components and reenter any custom parameters. 6811 Controller – Install new 12 software chip 30. Remove (10) screws fastening lid to controller and remove lid. 31. Remove (3) screws fastening front panel to controller and tilt panel forward for easier access to the inside of the controller. 32. Locate the existing EPROM chip on the CPU board remove. 33. Install the new EPROM chip supplied with the kit. Note that chip is directional. Refer to drawing below for correct orientation of the chip. 34. Close up controller. 35. Next time you turn on controller you will have to go into the program mode and reset up your components and reenter any custom parameters. 7 CONV-038: Convert WSB-940 to a WSB-950 Maguire Products, Inc. 610-459-4300 maguire.com 6 August 2009 New Controller labels installation: 36. Install the new 12-component software operation label over the existing 4component software label (existing label is is located on the outside, left hand side of the clear plastic shield that covers the controller keypad). 37. Install the number “5” label near the additive feeder outlet located on the controller front panel (usually the label is located slightly up and to the left of the outlet). 38. Install the number “6” label near the color feeder outlet located on the controller front panel (usually the label is located slightly up and to the right of the outlet). 8
