October 30, 2012 Lafarge ECAN employees took some time out of their weekends and spent a wet Saturday morning on October 20 at the Caledon aggregate pit where they participated in the first annual Caledon Pit Run. Participants raised money and food in support of Caledon Community Services (CCS). CCS is a not-for-profit organization that provides programs and resources for residents of Caledon and the surrounding communities. The event was co-hosted with Aecon with the Lafarge organizational effort led by Mal Wensierski and Carol Siemiginowski. Mal and Carol were supported by Brent Trott, Matthew Ruggieri, Mike Whitehead, Dan Horton, and Donn Bernal. The event brought Lafarge and Aecon employees, customers, and the community together for some friendly competition, and more importantly, the opportunity to raise money and non-perishable food in support of Caledon Community Services. After totalling donations from all generous sponsors, $8,500 in pledges and 160kg of food was collected, in addition to 50lbs of sandwiches that were taken to the Knight's Table in Brampton. (Volunteers from the CCS accepting the food donations) The participants ran a tough 5K race, with a crowd filled with family and friends gathering to cheer them on along with announcer Anson Le who did a great job MC'ing the event. A 1km walk was held for families and children as well. After the race, Lafarge-Aecon also hosted an open house, kid’s activities, a sponsor expo, and a rehabilitation tour. At the end of the day, the glory goes to the runners and their friends and family who were there to support them, as well as the amazing volunteers who made sure the event hit its mark. Congratulations to all participants and organizers. © Copyright 2004-2013 Lafarge North America Inc. All Rights Reserved.
