Suspension forks
Step 1 of 5
Removing front wheel packaging
Air Pressure – Air pressure affects how much resistance is required to move the forks. The forks have had their air pressure pre-set. This is set to suit the average weight of rider. The weight pressure chart is located on one of the fork legs.
1.
Remove front wheel protection packaging.
2.
Remove fork and brake caliper plastic protection packaging.
If you need to check or adjust the fork pressure, you must remove the valve cap on top of the left fork leg and use a specific suspension fork shock pump designed for this purpose. These are available from us or any bicycle retailer. Creig 24: Creig 26:

Rebound – Rebound affects how quickly the forks return after compression. The rebound has been set to medium for normal off-road riding. To adjust the rebound setting turn the knob on the bottom of the right fork leg. + -

Drivetrain The drivetrain is a group of components made up of the chain, cranks, cassette and pedals. These components work together to drive your Islabike forward. These are crucial in maintaining the optimum performance and life of your Islabike. To keep these running smoothly we advise the following: •
Chain cleaning and lubricating – We recommend cleaning and lubricating your chain weekly or after washing/rain. To clean your chain, simply use soapy water to wipe over your chain and rear derailleur then dry with a cloth. To apply fresh oil, gently apply any general bicycle oil direct while simultaneously turning the cranks backwards to ensure full chain coverage. After full coverage wipe off any surplus with a cloth.
Gears Your Islabike has had its gears adjusted prior to delivery. These should be checked periodically or after a fall for correct operation. Quick check: 3. Install front QR from pedal box
DO NOT PULL BRAKE when caliper spacer is removed. Please keep caliper spacer for transportation when wheel is removed

Ensure your rear derailleur hanger is not twisted. Place your Islabike in gear 1 or the biggest sprocket and look from the rear. Look out to see if the rear derailleur is fouling the spokes or looks twisted
If your gears are not working correctly or you think they have an issue, consult your local bicycle shop or contact our technical support team:

Wheels Perhaps considered one of the greatest inventions and key to your bike’s performance are its wheels. Here is some advice and checks to help keep them rotating.
Step 2 of 5
Securing front wheel 1.
Put front wheel into the fork. Ensure quick release (QR) lever is not on gear side. Check that this matches rear.
2.
Hold QR lever in fully ‘open’ position and turn nut clockwise. Do not fully tighten nut.
Rim trueness – Depending on the type of riding your child does, the bike’s wheels may become damaged or untrue due to an impact while riding. This means they will not spin straight and can wobble from side to side. If for any reason the wheels do become untrue, they can easily be repaired by a qualified bicycle mechanic. Please contact us at 503 954 2410 if you have any questions. Hubs - Your hubs are fitted with sealed cartridge bearings. These cartridge bearings are not adjustable or serviceable and should be replaced when they become worn.
Tires and tubes Tire wear – Regularly check tires for general wear and tear. Over time your tires will become more worn and the tread depth will diminish, you may also note damage to the sidewalls. This can make the tires more susceptible to punctures.
Tighten
Tire pressure - Regularly check the tire pressures on your Islabike as they wil gradually lose air over time. To check, simply push your thumb hard into the tire. If you can touch the rim, the tire requires more air. Alternatively, most quality bicycle floor pumps feature a pressure gauge. Your Pro Series bike is supplied with Crest rims. You must not exceed the marked 45PSI as illustrated on the rims. To inflate presta valves you must first open the valve by unscrewing and tapping the valve end to relieve it if stuck. Inflate to correct pressure and then carefully re-tighten to close the valve.

Disc brakes Considered one of the most important safety features of your Islabike. It is a good habit to check the brakes on a regular basis. This should be done depending on the type, frequency or duration of riding. If your bike has not been used for a period of time we recommend a quick check before riding. Brake operation – Pull on one brake lever at a time and take a closer look at the brake pads. Check to see if they are touching the discs evenly when applied. If the pads are not contacting the discs correctly, they are uneven, rubbing or feel spongy to apply please contact our technical support team at 503 954 2410. Brake pad wear and replacement – Disc brake pads are subject to wear, depending on usage and conditions. Eventually they will need replacing. Brake pads must be replaced if the total thickness of the backing plate and pad friction material is less than 3mm. Riding with backing plate and pad friction material less than 3mm can result in reduced braking performance, crash, and/ or death.
3. Clamp the QR lever to fully ‘closed’ position towards rear of bike.
The QR lever should start to feel tight at 90 degrees as you close – if it is too tight or too loose can adjust by holding lever ‘open’ again and turning nut. Check front wheel is correctly installed by lifting the handlebar and striking wheel to ensure it does not move.

Pads fitted as standard are organic compound. We recommend replacing with the same compound to maintain performance Brake fluid and replacement – The brakes fitted to your bike contain DOT 4 hydraulic fluid. Your fluid will need replacing annually to maintain performance. Always seek professional advice – specialist tools are required for this maintenance. Do not allow brake fluid to contact skin or eyes. If fluid comes into contact with skin or eyes, dilute with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

Maintenance Keeping your bike clean and maintained comes with many benefits. Not only will your Islabike perform better, but it will be safer, last longer and look great. To do this we have listed some regular checks to help you along the way. Of course, if you are unsure of anything we strongly recommend you seek professional advice or contact us.
Handlebar set up
Firstly, moving parts on your cycle will need lubricating from time to time. Weather conditions are generally the biggest factor that determine frequency of maintenance and lubrication. However, it is also heavily dependent on the frequency, type and duration of riding.

Guarantee Your Islabike comes with a 5 year guarantee on frame and forks and a 2 year guarantee on parts. This covers faulty manufacturing, but not normal wear and tear. This guarantee only applies to the original purchaser of the bike. Your statutory rights are not affected by the guarantee. 5 years frame and forks / 2 years parts Ex-display / Demo: 12 months frame and forks Second hand:
As with all mechanical components, the bicycle is subjected to wear and stresses. Diff erent materials and components may react to wear or stress fatigue in diff erent ways. If the design life of a component has been exceeded, it may suddenly fail, possibly causing injuries to the rider. Cracks and scratches or a change of color could indicate that the design life of the component has been reached and it should be replaced. Extra care should be taken in inspection of parts that are subjected to high levels of stress.

Our bikes have been vigorously tested and exceed the required standards but they are not guaranteed for racing in sanctioned competitive events. Use in hazardous conditions, including changeable and uneven surfaces can exert high and unpredictable loads on the bicycle and any components fi tted to it. Lack of rider skill and experience can add to these loads, leading to the possibility of serious damage to the bicycle and injury to the rider. If you choose to use your bicycle in these conditions, then please carry out more frequent and thorough maintenance and checks. If regular inspections of the frame, fork, stem, cranks and handlebars show signs of damage, discontinue use immediately and contact

It is not possible to make a bike that is never going to be damaged in an accident. If your child uses their bike beyond its limitations, there is a high risk of failure which could result in serious injury or death. Bikes that are used competitively should be subject to more frequent and rigorous checks. Take particular care to check the frame tube junctions and welds as well as all the components for damage or excessive wear. If in any doubt, please contact our technical support team or take it to a qualified cycle mechanic for inspection. Please note your bike is not intended for the following types of riding: • • •

Safety first Before you head off, we would like to give you some advice for safe cycling. If you are the responsible adult, parent or guardian we recommend the following precautions. If you choose for your child to wear a helmet, ensure that it is adjusted correctly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions
Ensure your child is wearing sturdy footwear and nothing can become tangled in the pedal or drivetrain
Avoid riding by any busy streets or highways
Be aware braking performance and grip will be drastically reduced in wet conditions.
Always observe national legal requirements if riding on public roads
Tumbles are an inevitable part of growing up and riding a bike and sometimes the bike can get damaged. It is very important that a bike is inspected if an accident occurs. Handlebar ends can become exposed from repeated contact with the ground or a heavy fall. Never let a child ride a bike with an unplugged handlebar end.
We pride ourselves on light action brakes, if your child is unfamiliar with cycling or has used other bikes previously our brakes will be more responsive. To check your child can come to a stop safely using the brakes, ask them to walk beside the bike and pull the brakes to feel their responsiveness.
Ensure that your child familiarizes themselves with their new bicycle in a safe environment.
Your Islabike is set up so that the right brake lever operates the rear brake and the left lever operates the front brake.
