MXS 5.0 set to take the market by storm Lead-acid batteries are becoming ever-more advanced and sensitive, being used more frequently and under more demanding conditions than ever before. As a result, battery care is a fast growing issue, particularly as life expectancy drops rapidly due to inadequate maintenance.
The MXS 5.0 offers a unique eight step-approach to battery care, available at the touch of a button, to ensure that any lead-acid battery is optimally conditioned, charged and maintained, indefinitely if required. As well as offering a diagnostic function to determine whether a battery can not only take, but retain a charge, the unique ‘Recond’ reconditioning mode can restore batteries with as little as 2v of charge. The new generation CTEK MXS 5.0 revives, charges, conditions and maintains all types of 12V lead-acid batteries including maintenance free

types and all chemistries including Wet, Calcium, GEL and AGM, also making it an ideal motorcycle battery charger. The MXS 5.0 is already making a big impression in Germany where it has just been awarded ‘Best Battery Charger’ by Auto Bild, the German equivalent of Auto Express. With an SRP of £69.99 the MXS 5.0 is hotly tipped to become CTEK’s best-selling consumer charger. PAGE01

Can the ‘chill factor’ increase your revenue? The Equipment: You only have to look at our hints and tips section this issue to see the huge strain that batteries are placed under during the winter months so why not offer a battery check, charge and recovery service that will help your customers, your reputation and your profit?
How does it work?
• Ask your customer when was the last time that they checked the state of charge of their battery and offer to undertake a test for them • Using the CTEK Comfort Indicator with clamps check the state of the battery • The Comfort Indicator will indicate the battery’s condition: Green – the battery is fully charged and does not need attention Orange – the battery is below 90% state of charge, charging is recommended to avoid stratification Red – the battery is below 80% state of charge and needs to be charged immediately, not only to be able to start the vehicle but to avoid the danger of the battery being permanently damaged through excessive discharge leading to sulphation – the biggest battery killer • Customer to be advised of the outcome and if the light is orange or red they are offered a battery charge and condition service (SRP £10 plus VAT) • If the customer agrees to the cost of this service, simply connect a CTEK MXS 25 charger • The vehicle battery will be charged and conditioned by the CTEK unit • At the time of payment use the Comfort Indicator once again to demonstrate that the reading is now green
MXS 25 – a powerful yet simple to use eight-step smart charger that will charge and condition the battery. The charger is spark proof and reverse-polarity protected to protect the user and also the battery – shop staff can easily use the charger without assistance from a workshop technician. Furthermore, there is no need to disconnect the battery before use as it regulates mains voltage to protect any sensitive electrical equipment.
Comfort Indicator with crocodile clips – a portable accessory that provides a quick and easy way to check the state of battery charge in a matter of seconds. Using a simple LED traffic light system, the Comfort Indicator is attached to the battery via crocodile clips, providing a visual indication as to the state of a battery, without needing to be plugged into a mains power source.

The performance and lifespan of lead-acid batteries are seriously inhibited when exposed to temperature extremes whether hot, or more critically cold and as a result, effective battery management during the winter is essential for the wellbeing of the battery. Here are some ‘cool’ sales hints…
SALES HINTS & TIPS
Battery performance can reduce by 35% when temperatures hit freezing and fall by as much as 50% if temperatures go even colder – it’s therefore even more important that the battery is charged to full capacity.

CTEK Takes a Break! During the summer we ran a giveaway competition in Take a Break, one of the UK’s biggest weekly female lifestyle magazines that has a circulation of just under a million, the competition was also featured on the popular Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert website. As a result of this, CTEK received over 4,500 entries which is a great reward for the efforts that we have been giving to promoting the CTEK brand to previously unexplored target markets.
At freezing temperatures an engine’s starting power requirement can increase by as much as 250 per cent when compared to that of a summer’s day. Furthermore with additional drains on the battery e.g. heated screens and seats, headlights and an increase in short journeys during the winter, the battery is being placed under a huge amount of strain. RAC and AA figures released during December 2010 place battery failure as the single biggest cause of breakdowns in the UK last winter.

During the winter months as many as one in three vehicles entering the workshop will have an undercharged battery.
