Xerox’s IntegratedPLUS Finishing Solution
FreeFlow Core Ultimate Bindery
Pull in pre-printed pages from across your shop improving productivity and increasing profit margins. Use inline finishing for efficient “onetouch” short diverse booklet runs
This solution offers three main configurations each designed to meet your businesses unique needs. Only Xerox offers this combined offering with integrated software and professional services.
Process more jobs - Watch your business grow. The brains of this automation factory is Xerox’s FreeFlow Core with over twenty pre-configured pre-press functions plus the capability of integrating with your existing infrastructure. FreeFlow Core is all about automating pre-press steps for efficiency – not eliminating them. As a result, you can complete more jobs in less time, reduce errors, reduce costs, and assure consistent quality, print after print. With FreeFlow Core at its center, Xerox has integrated technology from partners EFITM, CP Bourg®, STANDARD/Horizon®, Duplo®, Plockmatic®, Challenge and Ultimate Technographics@ to provide a fully integrated end-to-end Solution. A fundamental requirement of any efficient automation process is that all resources must be in place when the process begins to run. For printing and finishing that means resources like paper size and type, finishing heads, and sheet rotator position are all pre-configured according to requirements of the incoming job stream. Your professional services engineer will assist you in identifying procedures for reconfiguring your print and finishing line as job stream requirements change. Depending on your needs that may be within a single day, week, month, or quarter. 6|P a g e
Finisher Configurations This solution has three different hardware configurations; In-line, Off-line, and Dual Mode. The inline configurations excels at short diverse run booklets. The offline configuration with the CP Bourg® Sheet Feeder (BSFEx) is best when using mixed printing devices where space and location of the finishing line is the driving factor for productivity. The Dual Mode has the BSFEx attached to the printer allowing you the best of both worlds – both in-line and offline finishing workflows in one! You should work with your Xerox sales and professional services team to select the best configuration for your business.
Inline With an Automatic In-line configuration, the DFA-compliant finishing components are docked to the printing system so that printed sheets pass directly to the finisher. Jobs are held at the print server until the finisher is automatically programmed with pre-set job requirements for creasing, folding, trimming and stitching. Only booklets/stitching is supported inline but a number of vendors booklet makers are supported.
Offline With an Off-line configuration, the booklet finishing components are configured apart from the press. The printed sheets are stacked on a cart that is rolled to a finishing line that includes a C.P. Bourg Sheet Feeder. Before loading the printed sets, the operator scans a barcode on the Banner Page that is printed on top of the stack. This scanning initiates the automatic programming of the finishing line. The automatic offline configuration pictured below utilizes the barcode scanner to trigger the automatic reprograming of the finisher. This helps eliminate errors and waste.
Offline perfect bound book finishers are an important part of this latest release of the Xerox IntegratedPlus Finishing Solution. The poplar and award winning CP Bourg Perfect binders join the Horizon’s BQ-series binders offering a complete system where printed book blocks and covers 7|P a g e
can be processed on the offline perfect binding equipment using a combination of barcode and automatic setup and configuration. Using Duplo’s 646 JDF enabled Cutter/Slitter/Creasing device, printed material such as business cards, postcards, posters and greeting cards can be processed on the offline device using automatic JDF setup and configuration.
Dual Mode Dual mode truly is the best of worlds. Switch between in-line and offline on the fly. While finishing jobs Off-line, the customer can print other jobs to the printing system’s stacker. This Dual Mode configuration offers customers the most flexibility by enabling the workflow that best matches job requirements and press utilization at any point in time.

Support Expectations Xerox is providing an integrated end-to-end working system with both hardware and software components. Xerox and its IntegratedPLUS partners have worked to deliver a functionally seamless solution but each vendor provides and is responsible for technical support for its respective components. There are two support models. If you do not elect to engage Xerox and its professional services team pleases consult the corresponding documentation for the proper support channels. When you engage Xerox through a service level agreement you’ll have a highly capable support team at your disposal.
Xerox FreeFlow Application Support Xerox FreeFlow application software is maintained and supported fully through an optional Field Service Maintenance Agreement (FSMA). As part of the FSMA, the FreeFlow application software and operational assistance is available to customers through hotline support via the Xerox Customer Support Center (XCSC). Xerox will attempt to recreate any problems encountered with the FreeFlow application software using a Reference Platform that conforms with the System Specifications. Xerox will provide full software support to customers for problems that can be recreated on the Reference Platform. System issues that cannot be replicated on the Reference Platform are the sole responsibility of the Customer to resolve. Customer requests or requirements that deviate from the standard software support process are subject to an additional charge at the standard Xerox Time & Materials (T&M) rate. Customers will receive a separate bill for these services.
Third Party Application Software While Xerox may elect to include third party applications as part of its solutions it does not provide support for third party software applications that are not provided with the FreeFlow application software. The customer is responsible for insuring that use of third party software and other products with Xerox FreeFlow products is in full compliance with contractual obligations to such third-party licensors/suppliers, including all applicable use restrictions. IMPORTANT NOTE: Xerox’s IntegratedPLUS Finishing Solution was integrated and tested with Xerox’s own FreeFlow Web Services Web-2-Print portal. While there are many other compatible web portal applications you will need to address unique integration issues with your vendor of choice. Of course if you engage Xerox’s professional services they will work with you and the independent vendor to resolve issues consistent with the relevant service agreements.
Upgrading Components 21 | P a g e
Your solution’s components have been integrated and tested as a single functioning system. It is important upgrades (either hardware or software) for any individual component are compatible with the entire system. Please consult your local analyst or contact the Xerox Customer Support Center (XCSC) to ensure any customer installed upgrades are system compatible. IMPORTANT NOTE: This latest generation of finishing automation is not upgradeable from iGen4 EXP’s Web-to-Finish. While many components can be reused it will take a skilled and experienced support engineer to complete the upgrade.
