Bike overview Much like the racers it was designed for, the Norco Threshold is a bike that thrives in harsh conditions. A dedicated cyclocross race bike, it is designed to excel in the wild and unforgiving environments that make CX races such a spectacle to behold. The tenacious individuals who win these races are those who find a way to outperform their competitors by riding faster over every type of terrain imaginable: grass, dirt, mud, loose sand, gravel and pavement. Pedal it, carry it, push it – whatever it takes to get over the finish line before everyone else. If you’ve got the CX attitude, the Threshold is your ticket to ride.
Intended use When fall arrives and the weather begins to turn, cyclocross season begins. It is a special time when riders come together every weekend to ride and run on mud, grass, gravel, pavement and whatever else the course throws their way. The Threshold is built to shine in all of these conditions – and then some. Though it is purpose-built for the wild ride that is a CX race, the Threshold is by no means a one-trick pony. The cantilever Threshold comes with both vertical and horizontal dropouts, so it’s easy to swap in a single speed setup when you want to dial up the crazy and participate in a single speed CX race. And the new Threshold Disc comes equipped with disc brakes that offer the ultimate in stopping power. These bikes also feature fender, rack and water bottle mounts, making them fine all-weather commuters or winter training bikes.
Bike story Great CX riders manage to feel out those opportune moments when hopping off the bike is the best strategy; they find creative new lines that give them a priceless split second advantage; and they intuitively sense when it is best to stay on the bike and charge while other riders have opted to hike. The Threshold is stiff yet lightweight, featuring a proprietary frame design that delivers race-ready performance and snappy, responsive handling. Exceptional rear-end stiffness, anchored by a PressFit30 bottom bracket, means every pedal stroke translates directly into forward momentum. Vertical compliance in the frame dampens impacts so riders can keep charging. Frame geometry is optimized for cyclocross racing, delivering a ride that finds the perfect balance between efficiency and maneuverability. Carefully spec’d performance drivetrains deliver in even the harshest of conditions, and both cantilever and disc brake options ensure you have as much stopping power as you do going power. Full internal cable routing keeps your cables away from the elements, reducing wear and ensuring precise braking and shifting in all conditions. The Threshold is such an amazing bike that it would be a shame if it could only be ridden in race situations. That’s why Norco designed even more versatility into it. The cantilever brake version of the Threshold comes with replaceable dropouts: Use the super-stiff vertical dropout with built-in derailleur hanger for precise, crisp shifting on race day, and swap in the horizontal dropout to run the bike as a single speed when the situation calls for it. Or if disc brakes are more your flavour, the new Threshold Disc delivers the ultimate in stopping power. The Threshold also comes equipped with fender mounts, making it the perfect winter training bike or year-round commuter.
