D/A Converter NANO-D1 Instruction Manual Thank you for purchasing Olasonic products. Should you notice an abnormality or malfunction of the appliance, immediately stop using it and contact the purchased store or Olasonic Support Center. 2. Do not use other than the supplied AC adapter. 3. Do not touch the AC adapter with wet hand. It may cause an electric shock. 4. If the appliance is not used for an extended period of time, please disconnect the AC adapter from the AC outlet. 5. Do not disassemble the appliance. 6. Do not place the appliance in the following locations. (a) Very humid such as a bathroom (b) Places subject to rain or mist (c) Places subject to the direct sunlight such by the window (d) Places getting high temperature such as heating appliances (e) Very dusty places ( f) Unstable places 7. Make sure the plug of the cable is firmly connected to the appliance. 8. Do not pull the cable when disconnecting the cable from the appliance. 9. Listening to better sounds For better sounds, match the polarity of power code with the polarity of the wall outlet. - Insert the spectacle-shaped plug of AC power cable with the printing side down into the AC power adapter with the top side up(the label side down). Optical digital audio input terminal (OPT) Facing the top side up Connect an optical digital audio output terminal of other device to this terminal. Press the power button to turn on the main unit. 2. Select an input device by the input select button. A. Power button ( )   Turn the main unit on and off. When the power is off, the standby indicator lights up. B. Input selector   Input switches each time this button is pressed.   C. Headphone terminal   It enables to enjoy music with a headphone. D. Input signal indicator It shows the sampling rate of input digital signal. E. Volume knob   Use to adjust the headphones output volume and the output level from the analog LINE OUT terminals. F F. Headphone impedance selector   Select LOW if the headphone impedance is lower than 100 ohms, and select HIGH if it is higher than 100 ohms. 6 USB 96(*1)→USB 192(*2)→OPT→COAX *1 It is able to play back audio files with the sampling rate up to 96kHz on a computer. A standard driver is installed automatically on the computer. *2 It is able to play back audio files with the sampling rate up to 192kHz on a computer. If you use Windows OS, you must first install an exclusive driver on the computer. Please download this driver from the following web address. http://www.olasonic.us/ 3. Start playback of the input device. Tips ・When there's no input signal, no input signal indicator lights up, ・When the input signal is lower than 44.1kHz, the input signal indicator of 44.1kHz lights up. ・When any audio signal is not output from a device selected by Input selector (except for "USB" ) and also any operation for the main unit is not done for approximately 30 minutes, the power of the unit automatically turns off. As for "USB " input, when the playback on a computer is in stop mode and any operation for the main unit is not done for approximately 30 minutes, the power of the unit automatically turns off. 4. Adjust the volume. 7 Playing music on a Computer (using the standard driver) 1. Connect a computer and the main unit with an USB cable. Setting up a computer using the standard driver For Windows 8 Computer 1. Click [Desktop] from the Start screen. 2. Press [Windows] key and [X] key simultaneously. 3. Click [Control Panel]> [Hardware and Sound]> [Sound]> [Playback] and choose “USB2.0 Digital Audio Device”. 4. Click [Set Default] USB cable( supplied) 2. Turn on the computer. 5. Click [Property]> [Detail] and choose the sampling rate and the bit rate of a played music file from the [Standard modes]. Then click [OK]. 6. Click [OK] to close the screen. For Windows Vista/7 1. Click [Start]> [Control Panel]> [Hardware and Sound]> [Sound]. Click [Playback] tab and choose “USB2.0 Digital Audio Device”. 3. Press to turn on the main unit. 2. Click [Set Default]. 3. Click [Property]> [Detail] and choose the sampling rate and the bit rate of a played music file from the [Standard modes]. Then click [OK]. 4. Click [OK] to close the screen. 4. Press the input select button to select “USB 96”. Standard driver is installed automatically on the computer. For Mac OS 1. Select [System Preferences] from the Apple drop-down menu. 2. Click [Sound] to open the “Sound” window and select [Output] at the top of the window. 3. Select [SPDIF Output] in the list box, and close the window. 5. Set up the computer according to the page of [Setting up a computer using standard driver]. 4. Click the desktop screen to activate the Finder. 5. Click [Go] from the menu bar, and select [Utilities]. 6. Click [Audio MIDI Setup]. 6. Start playback of music files on the computer. 7. Select [SPDIF Output] from the items on the left side of [Audio Devices] screen, then choose the sampling rate and the bit rate of a played music file on the [Format] column. 8. Close the screen. 8 9 Playing music on a Computer (using the exclusive driver) 1. Connect a computer and the main unit with an USB cable. Setting up a computer using the exclusive driver If you use Windows OS, you must first install an exclusive driver on the computer.Please download this driver from the following web address. Driver software download page http://www.olasonic.us/download.html 1. Open the download page on the above website, and download the driver for NANO-D1. USB cable( supplied) Computer 2. Turn on the computer. 2. Unzip the driver folder and install the driver by double-clicking “Setup.exe”. 3. After the installation of the exclusive driver, please make OS-wise setup as follows. For Windows 8 3. Press to turn on the main unit. 1. Click [Desktop] from the Start screen. 2. Press [Windows] key and [X] key simultaneously. 3. Click [Control Panel]> [Hardware and Sound]> [Sound]> [Playback] and choose “Olasonic USB DAC(HD)”. 4. Press the input select button to select “USB 192” . 4. Click [Set Default]. 5. Click [Properties]> [Advanced] and choose the sampling rate and the bit rate of a played music file from the [Default Format]. Then click [OK]. 6. Click [OK] to close the screen. 5. Set up the computer according to the page of [Setting up a computer using exclusive driver]. 6. Start playback of music files on the computer. For Windows Vista/7 1. Click [Start]> [Control Panel]> [Hardware and Sound]> [Sound]. Click [Playback] tab and choose “Olasonic USB DAC(HD)”. 2.Click [Set Default]. 3. Click [Properties]> [Advanced] and choose the sampling rate and the bit rate of a played music file from the [Default Format]. Then click [OK]. 4. Click [OK] to close the screen. 10 11 Troubleshooting Setting up a computer using the exclusive driver (Contd.) For Mac OS 1. Select [System Preferences] from the Apple drop-down menu. 2. Click [Sound] to open the “Sound” window and select [Output] at the top of the window. 3. Select [SPDIF Output] in the list box, and close the window. 4. Click the desktop screen to activate the Finder. 5. Click [Go] from the menu bar, and select [Utilities]. If you experience a problem with this unit, please check the following items before requesting service. If it still doesn't operate correctly, contact the retailer you purchased the unit, or send an e-mail to Olasonic support center (see the warranty information in this manual). Symptoms The power does not turn on. No sound is output. Causes Countermeasures The power adapter or power cable Connect them correctly. is not connected correctly. C o m m o n 6. Click [Audio MIDI Setup]. 7. Select [SPDIF Output] from the items on the left side of [Audio Devices] screen, then choose the sampling rate and the bit rate of a played music file on the [Format] column. 8. Close the screen. 12 U S B The volume is too low. The digital output setting of an input device is not set to “PCM”. The input selection is wrong. Turn the volume up moderately. Set the digital output setting of the device to “PCM”. Select the correct input by input selection button. The cable from input device or to output device is not connected correctly. Connect it correctly. The sound output setting on the computer is not correct. Change the setting to [USB2.0 Digital Audio Device] or [Olasonic USB DAC (HD)] or [SPDIF Output]. The volume level on the volume control setting on a PC is low. The volume muting on a PC is on. Click the volume icon on the taskbar and turn the volume moderately. Click the volume icon on the taskbar and cancel the volume muting. The driver is not installed correctly on a PC. *In case it is not recognized on [Device Manager], “?” or “!” will appear. Re-install the driver. *Perform the operation of [Right click] -[Delete], and reconnect the device. WARRANTY INFORMATION WHO IS PROTECTED BY THIS WARRANTY The Olasonic warranty protects the original owner and all subsequent owners, provided that the product was purchased from a dealer who was authorized by Olasonic to sell such products at the time of the original purchase. A copy of the original dated bill of sale must be presented whenever warranty service is required. WHAT IS COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY Except as specified below, the Olasonic warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of the first consumer purchase. The followings are not covered; damage caused by accident, misuse, abuse, product modification or neglect; damage occurring during shipment; damage from failure to follow instructions contained in the instruction manual; damage resulting from the performance of repairs by someone not authorized by Olasonic; damage caused by installation of parts that does not conform to Olasonic specifications; units not used for their intended purpose; any claims based on misrepresentations by the seller; products sold on an “as is “ or final sale basis; or the cost of installing, removing or reinstalling the unit. Olasonic liability is limited to the repair or replacement, at our option, of any defective product and shall not include incidental or consequential damages. Olasonic reserves the right to replace a discontinued model with a comparable model. Any replacement units or parts may be new or rebuilt. NOTE: Repair of our product must be done by an authorized dealer, distributor or service center. Unauthorized repair will void the warranty and is done at the risk of the consumer.
