ROM Upgrade Kit D1260 Technical Service Note 1.0 Introduction Use this ROM upgrade kit to replace the EPROM installed in any D1260 keypad with the latest firmware version. 2.0 May 2005 3.0 1. Remove AC and standby battery power to the system. 2. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to separate the keypad from the base by pressing the two small tabs on the bottom of the keypad. Refer to Figure 2. Requirements This procedure requires a PLCC extraction tool, which is not included in this upgrade kit. You can purchase one at most electronic supply stores. Updating the D1260 EPROM Figure 2: Separate Keypad From Base Figure 1: PLCC Extraction Tool 3. Locate the EPROM installed in the keypad. Refer to Figure 3. Figure 3: EPROM Location ON 1 CTS 2 3 4 5 6 1 1- EPROM location inside keypad Before removing the installed EPROM, touch a grounded point to discharge any static electricity. Do not use a screwdriver or any other prying tool to remove or replace the EPROM. Incorrectly removing or replacing the EPROM can damage the printed circuit board. Bosch Security Systems is not responsible for products damaged from the incorrect removal or installation of the EPROM. 4. 6. When the new EPROM is correctly aligned with the socket, slowly push down on the EPROM. Ensure that the pins are completely inserted into the socket. 7. Reconnect the keypad to the base by aligning and inserting the keypad tabs into the base slots. Refer to Figure 6. Figure 6: Reconnect Keypad to Base Place the tips of the PLCC extraction tool in the EPROM socket slots on the diagonal corners of the socket. Push in the tool’s handles while gently lifting straight up. Refer to Figure 4. Do not rock the EPROM or pull one side up before the other as you might damage the socket. Figure 4: Remove EPROM From Keypad 5. Place the new EPROM over the socket. Ensure that the dot on the new EPROM aligns with the dot on the inside of the socket. Refer to Figure 5. While holding the top edges of the keypad and base in position, push the tabs inward and press the keypad and base together until the keypad snaps into place. 9. Reapply AC and standby battery power to the system. When the keypad shows the normal display, the EPROM upgrade was successful. If the keypad shows the “Call For Service” message, ensure that the keypad address matches the address programmed in the control panel.
