The DLTVS80 requires a different cleaning cartridge than the standard DLT format. A DLT1 cleaning cartridge must be used. The DLT VS80 drive is also read and write compatible with data protection solutions utilizing the HP StorageWorks DLT1 Tape Drive, such as the HP StorageWorks DLT1 1280 SuperLoader, and can be read by the HP StorageWorks SDLT 220 and 320 Tape Drives, providing for an easy upgrade path to higher capacity and performance drives in the future. The HP StorageWorks DLTVS80 Tape Drive provides affordable 80 GB backup to IT managers with mid-range servers. The 6 MB/s compressed transfer rate provides backup in less than 4 hours. DLT technology appeals to customers looking for reliable and scalable backup.

HP StorageWorks DLT VS 80 Tape Drive
Product Highlights DLT VS Technology
The new DLT VS80 Tape Drive provides HP customers with a low-cost, value-capacity solution that shares much of the technology used in industry standard DLT tape drives. From its compatibility with DLT Type IV media to its use of DLZ data compression and RLL encoding, DLT VS technology offers HP customers many of the same technological features found in the HP StorageWorks DLT 40 GB Tape Drive while improving such features as capacity and performance.
Media and Drive Compatibility
The DLT VS80 Tape Drive utilizes HP DLTIV data cartridges as well as industry standard DLT Type IV media. In addition to using standard DLTIV data cartridges, the VS technologies utilize DLT1/VS cleaning cartridges. To provide investment protection for customers transitioning from the DLT 40 GB Tape Drive, the DLT VS80 offers backwardread compatibility with DLT Type IV media written in DLT 40 format. Additionally, the DLT VS80 offers both read and write compatibility with media written by the DLT1 Tape Drive, the same drive utilized by the DLT1 1280 SuperLoader. For customers looking for an easy upgrade path to higher capacity and performance drives in the future, all media written by both the DLT VS80 and DLT1 Tape Drive can be read by the HP industry leading SDLT 220 and 320 Tape Drives. NOTE: To write to DLT Type IV Data Cartridges previously written by a DLT 40, DLT 70, and/or DLT 80, each data cartridge must first be degaussed before usage with a DLT VS80 or DLT1 Tape Drive or device. For new, unused media, this step is not necessary.
HP Data Protection Tools
Each HP tape drive is supported with multiple software applications and utilities that allow users to easily integrate and maintain their HP backup solutions. Software tools such as HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (L&TT) and Insight Manager are available via web download from the HP.com website.
