4-Channel Serial ATA (SATA) RAID PCI Controller
Overview
Models DM294A
Introduction The HP 4-channel SATA RAID PCI Controller is the latest generation of the ATA interface, and an optimal solution for RAID. SATA hard drives deliver blistering transfer speeds of up to 150MB/sec. HP 4-channel SATA RAID PCI Controller supports cables that are up to one meter long and substantially thinner, eliminating cable-routing problems and increasing air circulation. Serial ATA implements technology that improves data transmission and Serial ATA drives deliver the highest throughput of any ATA drive currently available. Also, the HP 4-channel SATA RAID PCI Controller uses a point-to-point configuration topology, eliminating master/slave bus sharing, simplifying drive configuration, and improving multi-drive system throughput. To assure faster transfers, ATA software uses sophisticated handling techniques to make data transfers more efficient and minimize overloading the host system CPU and slowing system response. Every controller also supports drive capacities exceeding 137GB. The SATA RAID controller cards can be used on both 33MHz and 66MHz PCI bus motherboards for wider compatibility and improved performance. By combining the HP 4-channel SATA RAID PCI Controller with your ATA hard drives, you can gain the incredible performance and extraordinary benefits of a high-end RAID system at a fraction of the cost. By leveraging a data-striping configuration (RAID 0), your data is spread across multiple drives for faster storage performance, dramatically increasing data throughput up to 266MB/sec (depending on drive make, motherboard, and PCI bus speed) and combining the storage capacity of the disks. With a data-mirroring configuration (RAID 1), your data is duplicated on multiple drives, delivering exceptional reliability and data protection if a drive fails. Using four drives, you can also set up a combination configuration (RAID 0+1) that offers the benefits of both schemes.
Features Attach up to four Serial ATA drives Supports RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 0+1 configurations Supports drive capacities exceeding 137GB Dramatically increasing data throughput up to 266MB/sec (depending on drive, motherboard, and PCI bus speed)
Compatibility The HP 4-channel SATA RAID PCI Controller is compatible with the HP Workstations xw4100, xw6000 and xw8000.
Service and Support The HP 4-channel SATA RAID PCI Controller carries either a one-year warranty or is covered by the remainder of the warranty period for the system unit in which it is installed - whichever is longer. HP offers a 7 x 24 technical support forum on the Internet.
