Preset buttons 2.Autotune button Press to recall a stored radio station. Press to perform quick scan or full scan in DAB mode. Press to perform an automatic scan in FM mode. 3.Tuning knob Turn to select options, scan or switch stations and select ensembles. Press to confirm selection or activate a function 4.Sleep button Press to activate and set your sleep delay timer. This function turns off your radio after a preset period of time. 5.Display button 6. Source button 7.Alarm button 8.Volume knob 9. Power button 10. Antenna 11. Head phone connection 12. Line out 13.Aux In connection Press this button to change the display information on your OLED display 14. Connect stereo headphones with a 3.5mm (1/8") stereo plug to this jack Use this jack to provide the sound to other audio accessories. Using Your Argon DAB2+ radio 3.1 DAB mode The display similar to Figure 3-1 appears when Argon DAB2+ is connected to the power outlet. After about 3 seconds, the radio goes to Standby mode, the display similar to the Figure 3-2 appears. The radio displays the correct time in DAB and FM mode, after you perform a full scan in DAB mode for the first time. Your radio retrieves the time information from a DAB station. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 8 DAB2+ If you are not in DAB mode, press the Source button. The display below appears, and the radio switches to DAB mode. . While in DAB mode, press the Source button, the display below appears, and the radio switches to FM mode . While in FM mode, press the Source button, the display below appears, and the radio switches to AUX IN mode. You can switch the DAB/FM/AUX IN by pressing Source button at any time. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 9 DAB2+ 3.1.1 Scanning stations in DAB mode There are three ways to scan for stations: • Automatic full scan • Quick scan • Manual scan To do an automatic full scan: 1. Press and hold the Autotune button for 3 sec. to begin automatic scanning of all stations. This may take a few minutes, during which you will see the displays in the sequence below. When a station is detected, it starts to play immediately. 2. To preview another station, turn the Tuning knob until the name of another station appears. 3. Press the Tuning knob to select and listen to the new station.. When a station is unavailable or no signal is present, one of the messages similar to Figure 3-7 appears.. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 10 DAB2+ To do a quick scan Press the Autotune button shortly to begin automatic scanning of available ensembles in your country or region. This may take a few seconds, during which you will see the displays in the sequence below. When a station is detected, it plays immediately.. To do a manual scan 1. Press and hold the Display button for three seconds until the text “Manual Tune” appears, 2. Press the Display button, until the active frequency appears 3, To choose another frequency turn the Tuning knob and confirm by pressing the Tuning knob. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 11 DAB2+ Note: The Argon DAB2+ is set to automatically do a Full-Scan tune every 5 time it is turned on via the main electric switch. This enables the Radio to store any new stations that might have been added to DAB broadcast. It is advised to do a manual Full-Tune once in a while if you don’t use the main electric switch to turn the Radio on and off. 3.1.2 Viewing additional Information (Display Information) Display information containing useful ones such as program type, ensemble, name and signal strength, including radio services, song titles, and special announcements sent by your DAB provider. While playing a station in DAB mode, press the Display button. Additional information appears at the bottom row of the display. Each time you press the Display button, new Display information similar to the ones below in Figure 3-10 appears. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 12 DAB2+ There are 6 different types of Display information available for DAB mode:. • Station information with text messages such as song title, artiste name etc, are displayed. • Programs being played. • Stations broadcast frequency. • Signal strength indicator shows that the dashes indicates maximum level required for signal reception, and filled blocks indicate current signal level. • Time and date obtained automatically from a DAB transmission in your country or region. • Sound mode. Stereo Mode or Mono mode. To view additional information in FM mode press the Display button continuously and additional information appears as below in Figure 3-11. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 13 DAB2+ 3.2 FM Mode 3.2.1 Selecting FM mode If you are not in FM mode, press the Source button until the display below appears, and the radio switches to FM mode. 3.2.2 Scanning stations in FM mode To do an autoscan. Make sure you are in FM mode. Press the Autotune button to scan for FM stations in ascending frequency. To scan in descending frequency, press and hold the Autotune button. Automatic scanning for an FM station begins. Once a station is successfully scanned it will start playing. To do a manual scan Turn the Tuning knob clockwise or anticlockwise until you hear an FM stations broadcast, or see the frequency you want. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 14 DAB2+ 3.2.3 Selecting audio mode (Auto or Mono) Follow the steps below to set your radios audio output to Auto or Mono. During and FM stations broadcast, press the Tuning button to select and audio mode. In Auto mode, the radio plays the programs default output: stereo or mono. In Mono mode, the radio plays mono output only. Some stations sound better in this mode if the signal is not strong enough to receive noiseless stereo signal. 4. Using Basic Functions 4.1 Storing and recalling your stations Your radio can store up to 5 DAB and 5 FM radio stations as presets. 1. 2. 3. To store a station you are listening to, press and hold any one of button 1~5 number you want to store the station in. Hold until Preset x stored (Where x is anyone of the 1~5 number selected) appears in the Display. A new preset overrides an existing one when you store a new station over it. To recall a station you press any one of the 1~5 number buttons, you will hear the corresponding station that you stored with the corresponding number buttons. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 15 DAB2+ 4.2 Setting the sleep timer This option turns the radio off automatically after a specified period. Press and hold the Sleep button for around 3 seconds when OFF is flashing then turn the Tuning knob to ON. Turn the Tuning knob to increase the specified sleep period by intervals of 15 minutes (to maximum of 90 minutes) shown as Figure 4-1. At last press the Tuning knob to confirm and it will show that the sleep mode has been enabled. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 16 DAB2+ 4.3 Checking the sleep timer setting 1. Press and hold the Sleep button for three seconds. The amount of time left is displayed on the bottom-right corner of the display. 2. To deactivate the sleep timer, press and turn the Tuning Knob repeatedly until the display in Figure 4-3 appears. At last press the Tuning Knob to finish it. When you press the Power button, the sleep delay mode is deactivated. 4.4 Setting the alarm 1. To set the alarm for FM station playing. Switch your radio to DAB mode first to obtain the correct time. Then switch back to FM mode, or stay in DAB mode if that is preferred for waking alarm. 2. When your radio is broadcasting or in Standby mode, press and hold the Alarm button for around 3 second a display similar to Figure4-4 appears. The current time is shown on the top middle or the display. Turn the Tuning knob to make OFF into ON and the press the Tuning knob to make the hour selection of your alarm time. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 17 DAB2+ 3.Turn the Tuning knob to increase or decrease the hour value. 4.Press the Tuning knob to confirm and go to the minute section. A display similar to Figure 4-5 appears. The current time is shown on the top middle of the display. The minute section of your alarm time flashes.. 5.Press the Tuning knob to go to the Alarm Type submenu. 6.Turn the Tuning knob to select Beep or Radio. 7.Press the Tuning knob to confirm the selection. The display similar to figure 4-6 shows that the alarm has been activated when the radio is broadcasting. . w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 18 DAB2+ 4.4.1 To deactivate the alarm Press Snooze button to temporary stop the alarm. To totally stop the alarm hold the Alarm button for around 3 seconds or press the Power button - alarm status then appears OFF. 4.5 Use of the Snooze function When the radio is playing, you can press the Snooze button to mute the radio. To turn off the mute function, press the Snooze button again. Notice that the Snooze function only mutes the build in speaker of the Radio. If you have connected your Radio to an external amplifier, the Snooze function will not work. In alarm mode the Snooze function will, when pressing the button, mute the alarm for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes the alarm will sound again. 4.6 Resetting the Radio You may want to erase your settings on your radio, including your presets and alarm and sleep delay settings. In the FM or DAB mode, press and hold the Display button for 3 seconds until the text “Manual Tune” appears in the display. Press repeatedly on the Display button until the text “System Reset” appears in the Display. Press the Tuning button to confirm. The Radio is now reset. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 19 DAB2+ 4.7 Viewing your radios software version In FM and DAB mode, press and hold the Display button for 3 seconds until the text “Manual Tune” appears in the Display. Press the Display button repeatedly until the below screen appears in the Display. This shows the software version of your Radio. Notice: The software version of your Radio may vary from the below. 4.8 Using the AUX IN jack Use a 3.5mm stereo-to-stereo cable (mini-jack) to connect an external device, like your Mobile phone, LapTop or iPod to the AUX IN jack on your radio. Press the Source button to go to a display similar to Figure 4-13. To adjust the radio volume level, you may need to adjust the volume on your external audio device. In other words you can adjust the sound level both on the Radio and on the External device. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 20 DAB2+ 4.9 Foam plug for Bass port The Argon DAB2+ gives you stunning sound quality for its size and price. It is however optimized for popular music and rock. Included in your Argon DAB2+ box you will find a small foam plug. This plug allows you to fine tune the speaker to your personal taste. This is particularly if: - You frequently listen to voices and classical music. - You place your Argon DAB2+ very close to a wall or on a book shelf. Simply insert the foam plug into the bass reflex port at the back of your Argon DAB2+. This will 'tighten' up the bass response and bring the midrange further forward. 5. Usage and controls (for Bluetooth) This chapter describes and shows you the location of the Bluetooth functionality on Argon DAB2+BT and Argon DAB3+BT Usage and controls Function 6. Source button 17. Bluetooth button Press to switch between the different modes – including Bluetooth mode. Press to activate the Bluetooth mode, directly w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 2 BlueTooth 2. Bluetooth mode - operation 2.1 to activate Bluetooth Bluetooth can be activated in two ways: 1) either by pressing the ”SOURCE” buttons until the Radio shows FM→BT in the display 2) or by pressing directly on the ”Bluetooth” button on the front of the Radio (button 17 page 2). 2.2 to connect Bluetooth 1) activate Bluetooth on your Media playback device (Phone, Tablet, LapTop etc) 2) go to Bluetooth settings on your playback device (Phone, Tablet, LapTop etc). Activate Bluetooth (if not already done) 3) ”Make Device Discoverable” on your playback device (Phone, Tablet, LapTop etc) 4) change to Bluetooth input on your Argon Audio DAB2+BT/DAB3+, either by using the ”SOURCE” button or directly by pressing the Bluetooth button on the front of the Radio 5) in the display it will then show ”Bluetooth Initial”, followed be ”Bluetooth Connecting”. If your playback device (Phone, Tablet, LapTop etc) is not already connected the display will show, ”Bluetooth No connection” 6) on you playback device (Phone, Tablet, LapTop etc) and still in the Bluetooth Menu, activate “Scan for devices” 7) after a few seconds your playback device (Phone, Tablet, LapTop etc) will show that is has found “Argon DAB2+BT/DAB3+BT” and show the text “pair with this device” - Click ”Pair with this device”. 8) your playback device (Phone, Tablet, LapTop etc) will then show Argon DAB2+BT/DAB3+BT Paired but not connected”. w w w . a r g o n a u d i o . c o m 3 BlueTooth 9) press on the text ”Argon DAB2+BT/DAB3+ Paired but not connected” and the two units will connect to each other. 10) Argon Audio DAB2+BT/DAB3+BT will now show in the display ”name of your device DAB2+/DAB3+ Connected to Media Audio”, and you are ready for playback Notice; if the playback device asks for a pin code, during the process – put in “0000” 2.3 Playback and Controls 1) choose the Media Player* on your Playback device and start playback 2) all controls on your Media Player will work, like volume control, change track etc. 3) you can also change track directly on the Argon Audio DAB2+BT/DAB3+BT by turning the ”Tuning button” either left or right. You can adjust the volume directly on the Argon Audio DAB2+BT/DAB3+BT 4) during playback, press the Bluetooth symbol on Argon Audio DAB2+BT/DAB3+BT and it will show ”Device list” with the Play Back devices you have ”paired” with your Argon Audio DAB2+BT/DAB3+BT 5) using the ”Tuning” button you can scroll through all your paired devices. Press the”Tuning” button to choose another of your paired Playback devices. (Playback device must be turned on and Bluetooth activated on the Playback device). * We recommend that you use the default Media Player on your Playback device. There are numerous Media Players for download especially for Android and Windows and not all of them work well as Bluetooth Media Player.
