Elkam
Specialist HD Camera The ELKAM is a specialist, mini HD camera for unique applications. Originally designed for rugby corner flag poles it will find many other applications eg; snooker pockets, goal net cameras, referee cameras, nest boxes and other wide angle views.
The lens gives approximately 100degrees HFOV and has a fuly driven iris.
Using our Remote Camera Panel Mk3 gives full CCU control of up to 4 cameras - perfect for 4 corner flags.

The Bradley Engineering BE_HDR70 is a very small profile remote-head HD camera for discreet and fixed camera applications. Separating some of the electronics by a 1.5m cable enables the camera head and lens to be reduced in size to only 70mm diameter by 90mm. The CCU box is also very small, only 110mm x 80mm x 35mm. Just large enough to fit the XLR and BNC sockets. As normal with Bradley Engineering equipment, power and data are fed via a single XLR4 cable with HDSDI and audio outputs on standard BNC connectors.
The BE_HDR70 is also ideal for use where weight and size are major considerations such as on the end of camera poles, model sets, in-car rigs etc. Extension cables are available in 5m lengths. Camera specifications are the same as the BE_HD10

Mini Remote HD Camera The BE_HD15 takes small mini cameras a step forward. Built on the 5 year success of the BE_HD10 it is still a miniature, full HD, remote camera with all the Bradley Engineering features of usability, connectivity and control. Fitted with a new sensor and lens package that delivers a superior image with higher resolution and greater low light sensitivity.
The original chipset has been re-engineered and augmented to produce the highest quality, noisefree, low latency, low jitter, pictures. The one piece design has all the additional electronics together with thermal management and fan cooling, built into the case. All outputs are directly on the back.
The 10 bit HDSDI output is derived from a 12bit A2D of the full HD component signal. It is then timed very accurately to achieve the very low jitter. It is not up-scaled from an 8bit digital output.
The camera accepts 37mm lens converters and all functions are controlled remotely via a simple protocol. It is designed to match perfectly with our U2/S, U3/S or U3/SR Remote Heads which have all the control protocols and a PSU built in. It can also be used in a stand-alone mode or with other control systems.
Although primarily designed as a mini HD camera it can be remotely switched to output any SD format in either PAL or NTSC. The picture quality is remarkable for such a small camera.

The widest range of remote camera systems Various Remote Control Panels are available which can control 4, 8 or up to 99 cameras on a system. RCPs can be connected directly to the camera or via a remote joystick. When routed via a joystick, the CCU data is included with the pan, tilt, zoom & focus data. An in-line Protocol Converter is required to operate the cameras on a multi camera setup.

The widest range of remote camera systems The HDC_150 is fully integrated remote HD cameras. Built on the success of our HDC_100 these offer an advanced sensor and lens package with higher resolution and better low light sensitivity. Although small, they retain the features of our larger cameras including the full on-shot move capability with simultaneous Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Focus, Pre-set positions, and full paint control with our RCP3. The SR version is fitted with slip rings for continuous 360 degree pans.
The camera is the same as our popular BE_HD15 Mini camera which can be switched to either SD or HD in many formats. CCU functions are all controlled via the single data and power link over a simple XLR4 cable. The unit is completely self contained and there are no additional boxes. The outputs are on the fixed base of the camera making rigging very easy.
The HDC_150 is ideal for single or multi-camera systems in theatres, reality shows, conferences, commentary positions, dressing rooms, vehicles, or anywhere that a small discrete camera is required with full remote control.

Eyeb Remote Mini Camera The ‘Eyeb’ is an evolutionary step in the development of small, stylish yet unobtrusive remote cameras for any number of applications. Commentary cameras, POVs, Discreet Filming, Multiple Camera reality shows, are just some of the applications for this remarkable little all-inone camera. There are no additional boxes - the outputs are on the base.
Much of the technology is taken from proven and popular remote cameras produced by Bradley, however, it boasts a significant number of improvements over its predecessors.
The results are crisper, cleaner and higher resolution pictures with even smoother pan, tilt and zoom movement. At top speed it moves at a respectable 120 degrees/sec but at the lowest speed it achieves smoothly controllable moves within 1 degree! So even at tight lens angles you still have smooth, fully proportional moves in pan, tilt and zoom. Using the new Remote Camera Panel Mk3 gives full CCU control including black levels, paint controls, scene files and multi camera control. This enables accurate control for matching other cameras.
Up to 99 preset positions are easily memorised and recalled. This includes: Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Focus for each preset. These positions, and all the camera settings, are automatically stored into memory so you don’t need to remember to store anything before powering down. It powers up just as you left it.
The fitted clutches are very important to prevent internal damage when rigging or handling. Clutch slip, even when powered down, does not affect the preset positions. Absolute position sensors are used on the shafts so it always knows where it is.
Various options and accessories are available and, as with all our units, it will operate with any of our controllers, no matter how old they may be. Up to 99 remote heads can be individually addressed and used on a single system.

Cam-Ball 3
Integrated Remote Camera Continuing to build on the success of the CamBall series, the CamBall 3 takes a number of steps forward. Keeping all the features of the original unit but replacing the internal sensor and lens with a far more advanced package. It retains the full, simultaneous control of Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Focus, with smooth-move, feedback controlled motors. The unit now boasts a 30x optical zoom matched to a larger and higher resolution sensor with increased low light sensitivity and outputs up to 1080p.
Wide angle lenses can still be fitted inside the carbon housing by simply pulling off the 'O-ring' sealed front port, screwing the lens onto the camera and replacing the port. Internally the camera is fitted onto a slide plate and can be adjusted fore and aft.
The Cam-Ball 3 is fully weatherproof and can withstand extended periods outside in all types of weather. Slipping clutches are fitted to both axes to protect the mechanics from external forces and to make rigging very easy. It can be mounted either way up.
Slip rings enable continuous 360 degree pans. All the SD and HD signals pass through the slip rings and both SD or HDSDI outputs are available on the base together with the 1080p analogue output signals.

The camera offers full HD broadcast images and is remotely SD/HD configurable. Wide angle converters can easily be attached to the camera. All camera functions can be remotely controlled via our RCPs. The Infrared mode is also activated remotely. This camera is used on many high end prestige programmes worldwide and quality matches many larger cameras.

Elipticam On-board Yacht Camera The Elipticam, from Bradley Engineering, is an innovative development of the dome camera which overcomes the main limitations of this type of design. It can tilt above and below the horizon without being eclipsed by the casing - whichever way up it is mounted.
Utilising the Bradley Engineering proven remote HD camera technology, the Elipticam delivers stunning and dynamic live or recorded images from the thick of the action.
The camera can pan continuously through 360 degrees and can therefore also be used to view competing yachts to the side and behind the yacht to which it is fitted. With its self-correcting roll axis the horizon is kept level, giving a true perspective of the pitch and heel of the yachts.
The outer casing is made from lightweight, black carbon-fibre, both to reduce weight, give strength and to match the material used in many racing yachts.
Before delivery, the Elipticam is dry-nitrogen flushed to remove internal moisture. It also has fan-assisted air circulation to further reduce any tendency for condensation and misting of the dome.
The complete Yacht System comprises a dedicated Yacht Joystick and a Yacht Hub which can control and power several cameras and also has a radio remote input for inshore racing. The hub can also switch lamps and start/stop recorders with built-in timers etc.

Rugged In-Net Remote Camera The Net_Cam 2 is an HD/SD camera system for mounting inside goal nets for Ice Hockey, Soccer, etc. It has fully machined components with Carbon-Fibre & Kevlar protection covers. The lens protection dome is polycarbonate and can also withstand a high degree of impact.
Slip rings are fitted to the pan axis enabling continuous 360 degree rotation. The Net_Cam 2 can also be mounted inverted. The tilt rotation angle is a total of approximately 270 degrees. This and the slip rings make inverted mounting very straightforward. The camera unit is identical to our BE-HD10 Camera offering HD performance together with a 10:1 zoom lens and is SD/HD switchable. The wide angle converter can easily be detached from the camera for normal use.
Data is received via a built-in radio receiver fitted inside the camera. This is compatible with our RD_10 Radio Data System. Power is 12- 15volts and the output options can be decided by the customer - HD Component, SD Composite, SD SDI, HD-SDI, SD Y/C.
8 preset positions can be memorised and re-called. The memory stores; Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Focus for each preset. These positions are stored even during power down as are the main camera settings. (Aspect ratio, White balance etc.) Also, the preset positions are independent of the clutches so clutch slip will not change the preset pan & tilt positions.

Gekko
Stabilised Camera Gimbal The GEKKO is a lightweight camera gimbal designed primarily for remote UAV applications but will find many other applications on boats, cars, cable cameras etc. It can even be handheld with the optional handle and onboard battery.
Designed from scratch to provide a fully professional solution to this type of remote filming it is supplied complete with a dedicated controller developed from our very popular remote camera controllers. It utilises much of our experience in gyro stabilisation and in professional film and broadcast television.
Despite its light weight, the GEKKO is large enough, strong enough, and has the power to handle many popuar cameras including Red, Sony, etc. It can be used for both live and recorded events with full CCU control if required.
Gyro Technology
The latest high speed digital gyro technology has given this gimbal outstanding performance compared with others. Negligable drift and fast reaction are key features.

The 200mm wide camera plate is wide enough for any camera used in these applications, whether it’s a RED, SONY or CANON 5D, the GEKKO can handle it.
Control
The standard control panel will cope with most applications but this can be upgraded to our larger Gyro Controller which has had many years development and offers more ergonomic control.

Another key feature of the GEKKO is the smooth, slow speed move capability for flowing and dynamic sequences. This feature comes directly from our other remote camera systems.

Camera CCU protocol boards are pre-programmed and can be fitted easily into the GEKKO.
Also, lens control boards and servos are available to suit many lenses. Our Remote Camera Panel Mk3 can be connected into the system to allow full engineering control of the remote camera for live and multi camera events.
Other Technology
The technology used in the GEKKO is derived from our exisiting range of remote camera mounts, developed and supplied over the last 15 years for the broadcast television and film industries. No ‘model R/C’ technology is used.

The system comprises of a 350mm diameter gimbal containing 5 independent, actively driven axes. 3 for major movements of pitch, yaw and roll and a further 2 axes of pitch and yaw for vibration removal. A total of 6 gyro sensors and 2 accelerometers together with many other position monitoring sensors all work together into a number of digital microprocessors to deliver a state-of-the-art and cost-effective system.
Various set-ups can be automatically self adjusted: Auto Pitch and Yaw Gain, Auto Horizon Levelling, Auto pitch drift and hold, Auto centring of axes 4 & 5.

L2 Mini Head
The L2 Mini Head is the smallest remote head in our range. It is compatible with all our controllers and has a power and data output which can be configured for certain camera controls. It also has a +/- drive output for a small motor which can be used for iris control. The head is weatherproof and can be used externally without further protection.
The unit is quiet, smooth and has anti-backlash mechanics. A maximum speed of approx. 90deg/sec, is reached in a fully proportional manner for both axes.
As with all our equipment, cabling is extremely simple, using just a single 4-core XLR cable for both power and data. A converter lead is supplied to connect a 4pin XLR to the waterproof Fischer socket on the head. The L2 Mini Head can be used inverted and has 2 x 1/4” mounting threads on the base.

Digital / Analogue / 3D Lens Servo Unit
The LSU_4 is a remote lens servo unit which can be set to drive either Zoom, Focus or Iris from our standard protocols.
The unique feature of the LSU_4 is that as well as driving the focus with a servo gear it also outputs standard zoom & focus control signals (2.5v - 7.5v) on the Hirose 12pin connector. This can be plugged into a TV zoom lens to control the zoom and also the focus servo if fitted. If no focus servo is fitted, use the LSU_4 servo. A flying XLR4 cable receives both power and data and it clamps directly to a standard 15mm support bar with gears for Fujinon, Canon, or other lenses also available. Custom lens gears can be made by request.
The unit is ideal for use on the Versatile jib head, minimising the control cable requirement. The Versatile controller has access to set the servo limits and speeds etc.

L4 Remote Head The L4 Remote Head is functionally the same as our U4 range and suitable for a wide range of HD remote camera blocks. eg; Ikegami HDL45, & 51, Sony HDC-P1 & 310, Hitachi DK-H32, Panasonic AK-HC1800, JVC KH-F870U and others.
It is very sophisticated and offers a very high dynamic range, with smooth and quiet operation. Many of the features have never been built into a remote head of this size and price.
Mechanics
The mechanics are very precise and have low backlash mechanics. Clutches are fitted on both axes to aid rigging and protect the servo gearboxes from damage. The tilt clutch is externally adjustable to aid camera balancing and has a hollow shaft to allow cable routing.
The unit can be C of G balanced for perfect control. The unique servo drivers achieve speeds of up to 180 degrees/sec yet still deliver smooth moves at the tight end of the lens.
Data Control
Data is sent using RS485 which allows ranges of over 1km on twisted pair cable. Using our IP adaptors enables full control over an IP network. Lens and CCU camera control is also multiplexed onto this single data stream.
Up to 99 heads can be supported on a single system using data D/As and Multiplexers etc.
Radio Control

Camera and Lens Control
Various camera and lens protocols can be programmed into the L4 enabling full remote control over the single serial data link. CCU camera control is built into the head with protocols for many popular cameras. Sony, Ikegami, Panasonic, etc. A 12v @ 3A camera PSU is also built into the unit. U2/S & U2/SR Mini Remote Heads The U2/S & U2/SR are the smallest Mini Remote Head in the ‘U’ head range. Like the larger versions it is fully featured for both live action moves and preset positions together with full camera and lens control using RS485 data. The head is weatherproof and can be used externally without further protection. The U2/SR has slip rings for 360 degree continuous pans.
The U2/S is quiet, smooth and has a precisely controllable speed range of 90deg/sec to 0.01deg/sec or less. This gives smooth moves even with 40x lenses. The preset positions are achieved quickly for fast repositioning.
The standard unit supports our BE_HD15 multi standard Mini HD Camera and offers a built-in PSU, plus engineering control of the camera via the same data path. This makes cabling extremely simple, using just a single 4-core XLR cable for both power and data. U3/S & U3/SR Mini Remote Head The U3/S & U3/SR are mini pan & tilt heads originally developed for the BE_HD10 camera. It now supports the BE_HD15 camera and any camera that fits can be used. It is small and fully featured for both live action moves and preset positions together with full camera and lens control using RS485 data. The head is weatherproof and can be used externally without further protection. The U3/SR has slip rings enabling continuous 360 degree pans.
The U3 is extremely quiet and smooth with fully proportional joystick controlled moves from 90deg/sec to 0.02deg/sec or less. This gives smooth moves even with long lenses. The preset positions are achieved quickly and with accuracy of better than 0.5deg.
The unit now supports our BE_HD15 multi standard Mini HD Camera ond offers a built-in PSU, plus engineering control of the camera via the same data path. This makes cabling extremely simple, using just a single 4-core XLR cable for both power and data.
Multi frequency data receivers can be included for wireless operation. These utilise our RD_10 Data Transmitters which are also very easy to rig and use.
Inverted or even side mounting (for vertical shots) presents no problems for the head as the camera is centre-of-gravity balanced in both axis. Pan and Tilt clutches are fitted to protect the mechanics and for easy rigging.
As standard the U3 can store 32 preset positions of pan, tilt, zoom and focus. Pan and tilt positions are accurate to within 0.4deg. Alternative positioning commands can be implemented for individual customer requirements.

U4/U5/U6 Remote Heads
The U4_HD Remote Head has been deisgned to accommodate a range of HD block cameras from many manufacturers. Sony, Ikegami, Panasonic, JVC etc.
The U5_HD is taller yet functionally identical and is designed to accommodate larger cameras, keeping the balance correct.
The U6_HD is taller again but still functionally identical. It allows full tilt down with many cameras when under-slung.
All of the heads have built -in camera PSUs and are loaded with the customer choice of CCU protocols.

U4/U5/U6 Remote Heads Camera and Lens Control
Various camera and lens protocols can be programmed into the Remote Heads enabling full remote control over the single serial data link.
Two 12 pin Hirose lens control sockets are fitted on the front of the camera support saddle and a 9pin and 15pin D plug are fitted on the rear. This arrangement ensures that the camera and lens cables do not interfere with the movement. A tally light is fitted to the front with additional outputs on the rear.
Status Display
On the side of the unit is an LED display showing status information and settings. This usually displays the head ident number but also shows other information, e.g. voltage, radio frequency, errors, etc. Various settings can be changed using the buttons on this display.
Slip Rings
If required there are 14 slip rings available for camera power, outputs and communications. These are provided via the 15way Dplugs on the saddle and base. Independent of these however, is a 12v @ 3A camera power supply built into the head. This enables operation of the head and camera from a single, 12 - 24v power supply.

U4_F Remote Head The U4_F is a small, precision remote head for the emerging range of Electronic Film Cameras like the Arriflex Alexa M, Canon 7D, Red Epic, Canon C300, Sony PMW F3, etc. It enables remote pan and tilt operations in dangerous positions and confined spaces like cars, boats and aircraft etc. It is fitted with a standard Moy fitting which can be removed to lower the profile further. Standard 3/8” bolts can then be used.

Radio Control

Future Options
Various motion control and ‘Move Tracing’ options will be offered. ‘Move Tracing’ can record a hand operated move and replay it exactly, any number of times. Several moves can be traced (recorded) and replayed at a later date. Other ‘Motion Control’ options will offer programmable moves with ramps and speeds and virtual reality outputs of actual postions.

VR_6 Motion Control Remote Head The VR_6 Remote Head is an extremely accurate, live action or motion controlled remote head for the most demanding applications. Our unique, automatic calibration routine, each time the head is powered up gives an absolute accuracy of better than 0.01 deg. and a repeatability of better than 0.003 deg. to any position over the full 360deg. rotation in both axes. This is made possible using 20 bit resolution for both pan and tilt axes.
All power and signals are routed through the slip rings which are fitted to both axes. Our HDthrough-slip-rings technology delivers HDSDI on the base. Power, genlock, video, CCU data, control data, etc. are also routed via the slip rings. The standard speed range is from 360deg. over 8 hours to 90deg/sec. For very fast applications this can be speeded up. The VR_6 can be fully proportionally controlled from a joystick or used in motion control modes. In Motion Control mode all parameters are individually adjustable, ramp up, top speed, ramp down, for each axis, including zoom. Focus position is also controlled. Up to 99 moves and positions can be stored in the unit.
It can also be used for ‘Time-Lapse’ shots or for ‘Stop-Frame’ animation. In either of these modes the final playback speed can be previewed as a real-time move before setting it to perform the recording of the shot.

Mechanics
The VR_6 is machined from solid billets of Aluminium Alloy. Once assembled the combination of deep machinings, diagonal ribs and box section construction make it extremely rigid and capable of delivering tight shots on long lenses. Mechanical backlash is extremely low and compensated in the electronics. Clutches are fitted on both axis to aid rigging and protect the servo gearboxes from damage. The tilt clutch is externally adjustable to aid camera balancing and has a hollow shaft to allow cable routing. The unit can be C of G balanced for perfect control.
Data Control
Control data is sent using RS485 which allows ranges of over 1km on twisted pair cable. For camera control this is converted to the appropriate camera protocol inside the head for communication with the camera. This can be RS232, RS485, LANC or many other standards.
A single Bradley Engineering system can support up to 99 cameras, each with individual control over the same data path.

Camera & Lens Control
Various camera and lens protocols can be programmed into the VR_6 enabling full remote control over the single serial data link.
Alternatively, 4 additional circuits are provided for proprietary CCU control when required.
A 12v @ 3A camera PSU is also built into the unit. This derives power from the main input for the head.
Two 12 pin Hirose lens control sockets are fitted on the front of the camera support saddle. Other sockets are fitted on the rear. This arrangement ensures that the camera and lens cables do not interfere with the movement. A tally light is fitted to the front with additional outputs on the rear. Internal drivers are provided for digital or analogue lens control and are routed to the lens control sockets.
Status Display
On the side of the unit is an LCD display showing status information and settings. This displays the head ident number and also shows other information, eg: voltage, transmitted functions, errors, etc.

Data Control
Data control is via RS485 from the controller up to the head. The single 4 core cable carries both power and data and all the attached modules (gearboxes, focus servos etc) are simply cascaded onto the same cable with the XLR plugs and sockets provided. This makes rigging just about as easy as it can possibly get and remember, the ‘Versatile’ is compatible with all Bradley controllers and data units.
Joystick Controller
How much control do you want? Dedicated buttons offer instant access to control Focus, Roll or Iris and Roll centering. A Run/Stop button for the camera and another 4 buttons which are user assignable to skip straight to any menu. This controller is unique to the Versatile system. The menu is easy to use and can be readily upgraded with additional functions in the future. Even camera CCU functions could be added to the menu. Zoom/Focus Demand Unit
A zoom demand unit with a unique addition. As well as the normal zoom rocker on the top, another wheel underneath defaults to control the focus. However, by selecting Roll or Iris on the Joystick unit, the function of this additional control changes. This unit plugs straight into the Joystick controller and the control data is multiplexed onto the standard 4 core cable up to the head and lens servo(s). Again, very simple.
Film Style Wheels

Multi Camera Selector The Multi Camera Selector in conjunction with the Multi Camera Hub gives access to the full potential of the Bradley Engineering Remote Camera System with access to 99 cameras on each system.
The intuitive keypad uses the minimum keystrokes to select a camera or store and recall a pre-set position. If the cameras have the capacity the MCS gives access to up to 99 pre-set positions per camera.
Additional features include assignable matrix mapping to enable operator selection to automatically switch any matrix input to any matrix output. Usually this output is the operator’s monitor. This facility is key to easy operation on large multi-camera setups. The displays clearly show the selected camera and the matrix input and output routing.
The Multi Camera Hub enables up to 4 controllers to be used on the same system as well as multiple RCPs. It has buffered outputs, each of which can support up to 10 cameras, or more with additional Data Repeaters.
The Multi Camera Selector is also available in a standard RCP form factor to work alongside our RCP panels. All the MCS panels on a system are updated when any change is made by any other panel.

Upgrading from Previous Models
Upgrading from the previous 4 camera Joystick to the Quad Joystick is on a fast turnaround from Bradley Engineering and is a cost-effective option. New electronics and top panel are fitted retaining the joystick, knobs, buttons and sockets from the previous unit.
RCP Input
A simple upgrade enables the Quad Joystick to accept remote data from any Bradley Engineering RCP. This requires a special cable and a code entry to activate the software. When ordering this at a later date you will need the serial number. The number of accessible functions will depend on the particular camera and head.

Multi Function Controller 2 The Multi Function Controller 2 is a natural development of the extremely popular original, which has been available since 2003. The Mk2 retains the familiar, ergonomic layout but with the addition of 3 ‘Hot Keys’ for instant access to any function. The panel is a modern membrane style with contoured buttons - all of which are individually backlit and adjustable. The case is built with custom single-piece extrusions and all edges have been rounded for operator comfort.
Additional inputs and outputs are provided on the back panel including a monitor switching GPIO output and an optional genlock input.
It remains, possibly the most sophisticated remote head and camera controller available with full control of remote heads and built-in CCU functions for multiple camera types.

Advanced Control Functions
The main controls are positioned in a familiar ergonomic layout to enable ease of operation over extended periods with minimum operator fatigue. All corners are rounded for comfort. The backlighting of the panel is user adjustable to suit ambient conditions. The main LCD display has several pages of information and selectable functions.
The CCU LCD section has three knobs that can be individually assigned to various camera functions. Should a new function be required this can be written into the software and will simply become another option on this LCD panel. All these functions, and more, can also be accessed via the optional Remote Engineering Panel which offers touchdown joystick engineering control of up to 4 cameras each. Mini Remote Camera Panel The Mini RCP is a sophisticated yet simple remote camera control panel. It is housed in a rugged aluminium extrusion with rubber surrounds and fitted with ‘soft-touch’ knobs.
The camera protocols including, Toshiba TU48/63, Hitachi, Sony, Ikegami, JVC etc. are stored in the remote Protocol Converters which are individually ident-assignable. In this way up to 4 different cameras can be controlled with the same RCP.
8 most-used controls are directly available with another 3, user-assignable controls available at the touch of a button. These 3 secondary controls can be selected and changed from any number of other camera adjustments available on the specified camera.
All values are displayed either on the LCD or LED displays and all the switch and knob legends all have LED back lighting for easy reading in dark environments. Output is on an industry standard XLR3 or XLR4 socket in RS485 format. The XLR4 version also carries power for the protocol converter. The remote Protocol Converters can be up to 1km from the Mini RCP using standard audio cable. An LED indicates power and data at the remote end.
The Protocol Converters are supplied with the appropriate camera connector. Protocol Converter & camera plug Data can also be routed via any Bradley Engineering joystick controller and is interlaced into the pan, tilt and lens command data. This enables engineering commands to be sent via the same data path but to a different camera to that Rugged being controlled by the camera operator. Universal Remote Camera Panel This Remote Camera Panel from BRADLEY fits into a standard engineering desk with recessed connectors on the underside. It is available in 2 variants: with a standard joystick type control or with a continuous wheel control.
The controller can address up to 4 cameras, of different types (Sony, Ikegami, Panasonic, Hitachi, JVC, Bradley, etc.) with up to 99 cameras on a system. Camera type selection is via the menu and internal DIP switches set which 4 cameras are to be addressed. A small ‘Protocol Converter’ is required at the camera to communicate with each individual type. Multiple RCPs can be cascaded onto the same data stream which is 9.6k baud, RS485 and can be readily sent via radio, TCP/IP networks or twisted pair cable making this a very flexible controller.
Main Controls
The main controls operate in the standard fashion with ‘touch-down’ on the joystick to switch the operator’s monitor to the currently selected camera.
The sensitivity of the joystick can be adjusted and the whole panel can be ‘locked’ to prevent inadvertent adjustments.
Clear LED readouts display the major settings for each camera as it is selected; Iris, Gain, Shutter, Camera No. etc.

Assignable Menu
The Assignable Menu sets this RCP apart from others. There are 3 instantly accessible menus, each with 3 adjustable parameters.
Each of these 9 parameters can be changed by the operator and put into any menu making it fully customisable to the operator preference. Again, ‘touch-down’ knobs are used for switching functions. 4 Scene Files are avaiable for each camera. These manage Red, Green, Blue Gains and Pedestals.
Connection Sockets
The sockets on the underside of the panel are recessed and angled to use the minmum of space uner the panel. Standard XLR connectors are used for both power input and for data output.

Other functions can be adjusted via the camera menu displays. Additional functions not supported on the standard panel can be included in the assignable function panel by arrangement with Bradley Engineering.
Remote Pan & Tilt Systems
When used with BRADLEY remote systems the RCP data is multiplexed onto the same data stream as pan, tilt and lens controls. This is extremely efficient and can reduce the number of links to just 1 single data path (or radio link) to the remote cameras for complete control of camera, pan and tilt, lens and any other required functions.
Using either a BRADLEY switcher or off-the-shelf RS485-to-IP converters enables communication over TCP/IP networks.

Pan Bar System The Bradley Engineering Pan Bar System is unique in that it can be used on any manual pan and tilt head without any modifications. No encoders or other sensors need fitting. All the movement sensors are within the unit which just mounts onto the manual head and detects movement using our gyro sensor system as used in our gyro stabilised heads. (Patent pending)
Lens Control
Standard analogue zoom and focus controls are plugged into the unit and all the move and lens data is sent to the remote head using our proven RS485 data control system. The range can be up to 1km without repeaters.
Multiple Cameras and Preset Positions
Preset positions and up to 4 remote heads can be controlled from the unit. There are many other functions accessed via the LCD menu display with independent knobs for gear changing from 1:1 upwards and downwards.
Connections & CCU control
Industry standard XLR and Hirose connector are used for all inputs and data outputs and are mounted on the back panel. Our RCPs can also be plugged into the unit for CCU control of the camera.

The Bradley Engineering Dual Fibre System is designed primarily for remote camera operations as a compact and flexible solution to getting power and data to cameras and bringing the SDI or HDSDI pictures back without any compromise in quality. Using a standard hybrid cable, 2 channels of video can be sent with power and data to the remote cameras. Either channel can be reversed to send video to the remote end. This is useful in commentary positons, for example, to give a reverse video feed. Either Lemo or Neutrik connectors can be fitted together with a local power / data input. With the Neutrik connectors fitted, standard LC fibres can be used with power and data inserted via the XLR4. There are extensive status LEDs which warn of various faults and potential issues. This gives confidence and indications of potential problems enabling solutions to be effected promptly. The sub-rackmount near end unit is powered with a standard 12 18v DC supply making it usable both in fixed equipment or battery operated in the field. The plugs and sockets are so simple that misconnection is virtually impossible. Power and data are input via the XLR4, the hybrid cable is connected and SDI or HDSDI pictures are delivered from the BNC sockets. Protection from misconnection to other camera systems is built-in with line monitoring and handshaking protocols. Reduced power results in just one channel powering up and alternative power can be simply plugged into the remote end.

Simple Fibre System The Simple Fibre System is, as the name suggests, very simple. It consists of two matching units, a FAR END and a NEAR END which connect to each other via dual single mode fibres.
1 fibre is used for the HDSDI and 1 for the data.
The units are supplied with a choice of fibre connections from simple Dual LC connectors to full SMPTE type connectors. (Specify the connectros when ordering.)
Both ends have XLR4 connectros for 10 - 16v power whcih is routed on to the remote camera so only 1 power supply is required at the far end.

RD_11
Multi Channel Radio Data Transceiver The new RD_11 Radio Data System from Bradley is built into uniquely functional and stylish units for effortless, error free data transmission. The units have both transmit and receive capability and can be user set to be either a transmitter, receiver or re-transmitter for individual setups.
Once setup, all parameters are set by the master transmitter which can transmit to as many receivers as required. In re-transmit mode they can both output the data and re-transmit it to units further afield, thus potentially doubling the effective range, or even more with additional re-transmitters.
The simple menu system guides you through the various setups. Channel selection, power output etc. are some of the parameters. Before deciding on a channel the transmitter can request a ‘Clear Channel’ status report from the receiver(s). The receivers listen to each channel and report the background signal strength to the transmitter. This is displayed on the LCD screeen.
Data style, (RS485, TTL) parity, baud rates etc. Are easily set via the menu on the transmitter. For Bradley data all of the parameters are set automatically including the ‘legalisation’ of the transmissions.
Once in operation a ‘Data Integrity’ report can also be requested from the reciever. The receiver reports the percentage of error-free data recieved over the most recent packets.

Clear LED indicators are provided for easy confirmation of the setups and performance.
The operating buttons are both raised and backlit, as is the LCD readout. This makes operation in poor lighting conditions much easier.
The one piece overlay has no holes or perforations making it less vulnerable to moisture and dust ingress. The units can be used outside in the weather without additional protection.

RD_12
Miniature, Wireless CCU Controller The new RD_12 Radio CCU Receiver is the smallest and lightest of its type ever produced by Bradley - possibly by anyone worldwide. It is built into uniquely functional and stylish housing for effortless CCU control of a variety of camera types, including Sony, Ikegami, Panasonic and Bradley cameras plus others.
Data transmission is via the Bradley RD_11 units which also controls all the parameters and channel selection etc. For many camera types (eg Sony) only a single cable is required from the camera. This powers the unit and also connects the RS422 data.
Operating on license-free frequencies around the world it conforms with all the required regulations and in most territories requires no license or notification of intended use.

Each RCP can control up to 4 cameras with the same transmitter and up to 4 RD_12 Receivers. The camera protocols are selected from the RCP. The sytem can control different types of cameras at the same time. For example; Camera 1 = Sony, Camera 2 = Ikegami
More cameras can be controlled by adding more receivers and RCPs, but still using only one RD_11 Transmitter.
The RD_11 and RD_12 both have clear LED indicators showing confirmation of the setups and performance. Channel changes and setups are performed from the RD_11 and transmitted to the RD_12. The enclosure is sealed to IP66 for outdoor use and has a tactile, non-slip silicone rubber surround which also acts as shock absorber against hard contact.

IP Converters Our converters come pre-configured and have our standard XLR3 and XLR4 connectors. They use our standard 12v power supplies. Data Multiplexers
Data Multiplexers are used to multiplex the data from up to 4 individual controllers enabling multi-operator control of up to 8 remote heads. The routers can be cascaded control of up to 64 remote heads plus a further 25 peripheral devices.
The priorities of the controllers can be user defined including setting the time-out should a controller be inactive for a predetermined time. This prevents one controller ‘locking-out’ the others from accessing the remote head. Bicolour LEDs on the front panel indicate the status of each controller.
Only 1 connected controller needs power. The Data Router and the other controllers can derive power from a single source.

Data Repeaters are simple 1:2 distribution amplifiers for RS485 data. They have both XLR3 and XLR4 inputs for data and power on our standard arrangement.
The incoming data is cleaned up and re-sent via 2 independent data amplifier/line drivers. They are required for very long cable runs or to enable ‘star’ connection of remote devices where ‘daisy chaining’ cannot be done.
They will accept any form of RS485 data up to 115k baud.

Stage Box
The Stage Box enables power and data to be split to 4 separate remote devices with a loop out for the data to be connected on to a 5th device or another Stage Box.
Either 1 or 2 power supplies can be connected. The switch connects all 4 outputs to one supply or splits 2 outputs from each supply.
Built into a very rugged extruded aluminium box it withstands the rigours of remote use.

Receiver Driver Mk3 & Mk4 Analogue to Digital Remote Head Converter
The Rx_Mk3 and Rx_Mk4 are data receivers with outputs to drive motors, analogue heads and broadcast lenses from any Bradley Engineering controller. They enable interfacing with other remote heads, cameras and lenses, both analogue and digital.
The Rx_Mk3 is larger than the Rx_Mk4 but has dual 3A motor drivers and can be fitted with an optional radio data receiver for wireless operation. It also has a relay switched, regulated 12v power output.
The Rx_Mk4 is a smaller unit with reduced features but keeping the essential controls - Pan, Tilt, Zoom, Focus, Iris. Both units have a 12pin Hirose lens plug and an independent data output which can be configured for camera control. Paint, Master Pedestal, etc. Control data can be from any Bradley Engineering Joystick or from an Analogue to Digital Joystick converter.

Protocol Converters
Protocol Converters can be used to interface and control various devices but are primarily aimed at controlling cameras from any Bradley Engineering control system. Individual camera control protocols are embedded in the unit and output in the right format for the connected camera or other device. Input and output connectors are available in a variety of options.

An additional feature is the built-in, bi-directional motor driver. This can drive small motors, (up to 0.75A) for features such as external iris control.

These standard sized units can be programmed to interface with a variety of peripheral devices.
For example monitor switchers, recorder decks etc. It allows the data output from any controller to control other, 3rd party devices.
The outputs can be either open collector switches or data to control devices. When configured as a monitor switcher controller, the unit switches the camera output to the TX monitor following the operators selection on the joystick controller.

Technical Data Types
There are several types of data that can be used for control. We use RS485 data as this is the most robust type of data. It is a, multi-drop, balanced pair system and can send data up to 1km on a twisted pair cable. Our data rate is 9600baud.
Some other types of data are:
RS232 Non-balanced and only designed for up to 10m cables. There are many different variations of so-called RS232 data: True RS232 is +12v to -12v and inverted. This is the type that comes out of a standard personal computer or laptop. This can also be +5v to -5v. Other types of so-called RS232 data are actually TTL type data which is 0v to 5v but also inverted. True TTL data (Transistor to Transistor Logic) is 0v to 5v non-inverted where 0v = logic0 and 5v = logic1
RS422 - Similar to RS485 but only point to point.
On our system, up to 10 cameras and heads can be connected in a ‘daisy chain’ manner to a controller. Alternatively up to 99 heads can be controlled using a distribution amplifier or via a radio data link provided this allows ‘streaming’ of the data. The remote heads manage all the data and error handling internally and are optimised for live action control. Each head recognises its own ident, therefore the same radio frequency and data stream can be used for all heads.
Slip Rings
Slip Rings, when fitted, enable electrical connections to be made through a continously rotating joint. We generally fit these to the pan axis which enables the remote heads to rotate continously whilst still being fully connected. Some circuits are provided via the 15 way D-plugs on the heads and base. Others are used internally for power, data and pictures. Our systems can pass the HD signal through the slip rings to provide HDSDI or SDI directly from the base.
Multiple Heads
Up to 99 remote heads can be operated on a single system with up to 4 controllers and 4 engineer positions.
These can be a mixture of cameras and remote heads. We manufacture protocol converters for many camera types and also for other types of remote heads. Our Multi Camera Selectors and Data Multiplexers take care of operator priorities and can be set to the user’s preferences for timeouts etc.

Technical Power Supplies
We have previously specified the supply voltage of our cameras as 12- 24v. DC.
Following the experience of some of our customers we realise that this specification is misleading and have re-specified this as:
Operating voltage 10 - 16v DC. (Nominally 12v)
Never exceed voltage 24v DC.
This still enables the input voltage of a long cable to be up to 24v as long as a maximum of 16v is present at the far end when the cable is loaded with the remote camera.
Explanation
All cables have a resistance to current passing along them. This resistance causes a voltage drop along the cable which is directly proportional to the current being drawn: i.e.. the power consumption of the equipment.
The voltage drop can be calculated by the formula:
V = I x R. Where V=voltage drop, I=current, R=resistance.
You need to add twice the quoted resistance per metre because you have to add the power and the Ground conductor together which is the complete circuit.
So, for our typical heavy duty XLR4 - XLR4 cable the resistance is quoted as 40 ohms per kilometre, per conductor. For 100m this is 8ohm for both conductors together. Our cameras typically draw just less than 1 Amp.
Using the formula above: Voltage drop = 1 x 8.0 = 8 volts. Make an allowance for other losses and you have a drop of up to 10 volts per 100m per camera.
This assumes you are using heavy duty cable. Thinner cables could have up to twice the resistance and lose up to 20v per 100m per camera.
If you run 2 cameras on a cable, the current draw and therefore the loss, is doubled. However you can roughly work out what voltage you need to put in to get the right amount of voltage at the far end.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that measuring the voltage at the far end of the cable is meaningless unless you have the camera, or dummy load, connected. Without the cameras connected a voltmeter will read the same voltage as is put in at the supply end. This is because voltmeters use virtually no current at all.
This means that when you first connect the camera it will see the full voltage until it draws current and the voltage decays. This is why our cameras need to be able to cope with a larger voltage for a short time.

Example:
2 cameras on a standard 100m cable, each drawing 0.9A 100m cable = 8ohm. Total current = 1.8A Voltage drop = 1.8 x 8 volts = 14.4 volts.
Therefore to get 12v at the far end with all cameras running you need to put in 28.4 volts. However, our cameras can operate down to 10 volts so a 24 volt power supply should just be enough but you are on the limit with no allowance for other losses.
All this assumes that your power supply can supply enough current. Although the cameras draw 0.9A, the losses may account for 30% of the power. So for these 2 cameras you would need at least a 28.4 x 1.8 = 51watts.
Another Solution:
Use a ‘Y cord’ and put the power supply near to the camera. See the example connection diagrams for more details.
Standard PSUs:
Our standard power supplies deliver 3.4A @ 15v. = 51watts
We also offer a high power supply which delivers 6A @ 15v. = 90watts. This can run 4 cameras at 25m with our heavy duty cable.
