If venting conditions are checked and the pilot flame is stable on the thermocouple at all times, but the thermocouple will not hold the valve open, you should replace the thermocouple. If a new thermocouple will still not hold the valve open, you should suspect the pilot circuit in the control is no longer functioning and replace the gas valve.
