Wireless Security Networks Application Note
Deliver future-proof fiber-like Gigabit capacity Public safety and surveillance networks are expanding rapidly all over the globe, delivering more applications, demanding greater bandwidth and supporting more first responders and law-enforcement authorities. Solutions architects are constantly seeking wireless technologies to reliably transport the ever-growing video data. The widely used sub-6GHz band is limited in spectrum due to its increased and growing use by public Wi-Fi and consumer devices.
Expansion into the 60, 70/80 GHz millimeter wave spectrum guarantees: • Scalability over 17GHz vacant spectrum • Sustainability to interference • Predictability • Higher capacity • Improved reliability • Fiber-like performance thanks to negligible delay • Time-to-market proficiency
How to future-proof your security network? Thousands of CCTV cameras operate in every major city. Located on poles, building facades and rooftops, they capture multiple Gigabytes of video data. To transfer all this footage back to the control rooms, requires high capacity, interference-free wireless links that can easily and discreetly be installed adjacent to the cameras. CCTV integrators are seeking reliable, cost effective solutions to expand their network footprint. Due to the heavy investments associated with fiber trenching or leasing, wireless is a far more cost effective solution. Traditional microwave solutions are typically too large and too expensive for security networks. Their higher costs are usually associated with the high licensing fees. Therefore,
suitable solutions for security networks are typically available in the sub-6GHz unlicensed band or millimeter wave unlicensed or lightly licensed spectrum. As video capacity increases and multiple cameras are cascaded into a single link, the millimeter wave spectrum, with its Gigabit throughput, offers a distinctive advantage over sub-6 GHz. Specifically in dense urban areas, it is easier to deploy radios using the low interference, uncongested 60, 70/80 GHz bands. Most importantly, the 60 GHz unlicensed band radios, are optimized for street level deployment such as: lamp posts, traffic signals etc., allowing quick and easy roll-out where needed.
Siklu’s next generation solution for wireless security networks Siklu’s EtherHaul-600T V-band 60 GHz radio and the EtherHaul-1200/2200 E-band 70/80 GHz radios provide up to 2 Gigabit wireless throughput. They are based on an innovative integrated all-silicon design that increases
reliability and reduces size and cost. The all-outdoor units include on-board advanced networking and multiple ports so they can be deployed in cascade and ring topologies to increase resiliency of the wireless security network.
