The nScaled Virtual Local Cloud Appliance (vLCA) is the software layer of a multi-functional gateway to the nScaled Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) cloud data center. Placed onto a hardware platform in the customer’s data center; it provides powerful local recovery capabilities, replication, deduplication and direct connectivity to the nScaled cloud data center. The nScaled DRaaS solution ensures that your applications keep running, your business critical data is safe and your business stays in business.
A Hybrid Cloud Architecture With its unique hybrid architecture, featuring the nScaled virtual on-premises appliance, nScaled’s cloud data centers are the most dependable, flexible and secure available. The appliance acts as a seamless part of the total hybrid cloud solution, providing peace of mind and flexible migration paths to the cloud.
Full Protection and Recovery inside Your Firewall Should any server (physical or virtual) fail in the existing primary data center, it can be recovered directly on the Local Cloud Appliance and accessed locally as a replacement server within fifteen minutes. Essentially, you get a private local cloud purpose-built for disaster recovery. The recovery is initiated through the Recovery Console, nScaled’s unified web based administrative UI, and is a simple two-button recovery process. This local recovery eliminates system downtime and provides for independent high availability of critical systems without failover to secondary geographic facilities.
Local Data Protection and Fast Restore The nScaled Virtual Local Cloud Appliance allows for the fast and easy recovery of lost, deleted, corrupt or virus infected data from any host within minutes. Your data is backed up and stored on the local appliance by way of snapshots according to customer-defined schedules. Recovery of lost files or entire databases can take just minutes to complete.

Before replicating to the nScaled data center, the changed data is de-duplicated at 90% efficiency, resulting in a tenfold reduction in WAN traffic. Data is returned to its original format from snapshots for storage in the cloud, where with it is accessible and recoverable without delays due to rehydration.
Reverse Replication Workloads that have been migrated to an nScaled data center during an event can be replicated back to the local cloud in the LAN environment. This provides for a complete set of critical data to always be maintained within the LAN environment for safe keeping and dependable operations.
Subscription Service The appliance software is provided as a subscription service, just like our nScaled remote cloud data centers. Each license can support up to 10TB of storage and/or 25 protected servers. A minimum of one license is required per site protected by the nScaled DRaaS solution. The hardware platform for the local appliance can be from your current inventory, from a 3rd party source or purchased from nScaled.
Specifications The nScaled virtual appliance runs as virtual machines inside VMware ESXi, the same market leading virtual environment that businesses run, so there is nothing new t o learn for customers. The minimum requirements for the hardware platform include:
vSphere 5.0 or 5.1

iSCSI Software Controller and Protocol enabled
Disks attached to RAID controller with battery-backed cache
Underlying datastores: 350 disk operations per second for each 4.5TB of storage
A base of 12GB RAM, 6 vCPU and 140GB storage
Total RAM, vCPU and storage depend on the protected capacity by the vCLA
