In certain situations size really does matter. But even when it is of paramount importance, do you really want to compromise on the features available on your digital console? If the answer is no, then the SD10-24 is for you. The SD10-24, like the original SD10, is a console that boasts features and benefits that instantly distinguish it from the others in the SD Series and every other digital console on the market, just in a more compact package.
The SD10-24 was designed to provide a smaller footprint console for a particular segment of the market, but with no reduction in functionality or number of inputs and outputs. There is also the SD10B-24 broadcast specific product, this will be particularly useful for OB trucks, where space is often very limited but a high channel and buss count is required to handle 5.1 audio systems.
The SD10-24 measures just under 1 metre wide, with a worksurface constructed from anodised aluminium, overlaid with polycarbonate panels to provide clear and concise user feedback. It boasts the same large 15inch, touch sensitive screen as the SD10, providing both information and fast control of all the main parameters.
DiGiCo SD10-24 Same great features, compact size The control surface features 25 100mm touch sensitive faders, providing fast access to the console’s large number of channels, which include 96 with full processing, 12 of which can be configured as full Flexi Channels - and outputs that can be assigned across the surface. All channels have dual mono inputs for fast ‘Main’ and ‘Alt’ channel switching. Smart Key Macros are provided, accessed via four banks of ten backlit keys. The user can program these to control any functions, simple or complex, that they want to recall at the push of a button. Local I/O, positioned on the rear of the console, comprises eight mic inputs, eight line outputs, eight mono AES I/O, two MADI ports with redundant cabling connections, 16 GPI and GPO connections (with the option to expand to 32 GPI and GPO), MIDI and Wordclock synchronisation, plus optional Optocore. As you would expect from DiGiCo, the SD10-24 features extremely powerful processing. Standard input channel processing includes channel delay; single and multi channel presets; HPF and LPF with an industry leading 24dB per octave; four bands of parametric EQ with band curve selection; compressor and gate; dual insert points and access to all bussing. Standard output channel processing includes output delay; eight bands of parametric EQ (previously only seen on the SD7); compressor and gate; dual insert points; groups with buss to buss routing, plus Auxes that have direct talk to output with dim control.
Dynamic EQ provides both expansion and compression on all four bands of parametric EQ. These powerful processors can be assigned to any of the input or output channels, whether stereo or LCR, with ten units being allocated as required. In addition, any input or output channel can be processed via the multi-band compressors - perfect for managing complex in ear monitoring or difficult input channels - again, ten units can be allocated. 48 assignable busses can be configured as mono or stereo groups, or auxiliary busses. There is also an additional stereo or LCR Master buss and 16x12 output matrix, highlighting the SD range’s renowned routing flexibility. Meanwhile, dual solo busses give monitor engineers the comfort of accurate monitoring security. Insertable FX and graphic EQs can be routed, controlled and snapshot recalled for the most complex show design. The 24 graphics can easily be inserted and controlled from the worksurface and 10 Stealth stereo FX units can be configured at any time from the palette of thirty-three Stealth FX. Integration with Waves plugins offers yet more processing options. Unlike all other SoundGrid platforms, DiGiCo provides complete control of plug in parameters, as well as recall of snapshots and single loading / saving, directly from the worksurface. 16 stereo SoundGrid racks can be inserted, with up to eight plug ins in each rack. Like all DiGiCo consoles, the SD10-24 software runs on a standard PC or Intelbased Macintosh for offline preparation and remote control of the console. One SD10-24 can also be linked to another, using a standard CAT5 crossover cable, providing
50 faders for control. In this configuration, the audio engine of the first SD10 provides complete redundancy for the other. As if all this wasn’t enough, the SD10-24 offers even more expansion options: • Second-generation Optocore optic connections. Just like the SD7, an SD10-24 can connect to up to 14 SD, NANO, MINI or D-Rack IDs with 448 audio channels on a single redundant optical loop. • Five redundant consoles can share all inputs from the stage racks, and outputs on the system can be assigned in blocks of eight. For example, a single rack can provide 56 inputs to both consoles with 40 of the outputs assigned to the monitor console and 16 used by Front of House for feeds back to the stage. • One console can even directly route outputs to another console on the loop, for convenient tie lines. • D-Rack, SD-Rack, NANO Rack, MINI Rack, SD7, SD10 and SD10-24 can operate together at 96kHz. The audio advantage here is clear, but also means as little as 1ms of latency when routing a stage input through a channel and buss, with processing back to a stage output. • SoundGrid Waves can be added, allowing full connection and control of a Waves SoundGrid, providing low latency plugins on a floating point digital console. • Connectivity to the outside world isn’t restricted to just the D-Rack and SD Rack. The SD10 comes with different I/O options because tailored DiGiCo systems and complex set ups are completely user configurable. • Dual hot swap, switch mode, PSUs as standard.

REMOTE RACK PSU Further level reduction
There are certain situations where one needs absolute quiet. With this in mind, DiGiCo has developed the Remote Rack PSU or RR-PSU for its SD range of digital mixing consoles. This simple, yet elegant, solution comprises two modules; one with a single multi pin connector, the other a 3U rack mount unit with a corresponding multi pin connector and two power supply sockets. These two modules are connected via a 5m long cable which allows the power supply to sit in a remote location, thus removing any fan noise from the level sensitive area. The RR-PSU can also be used in conjunction with the SD11, with the additional benefit of turning the SD11 into a redundant PSU system. “Under normal circumstances, the PSU fan noise produced by our consoles is insignificant,” says DiGiCo managing director, James Gordon, “but in some level sensitive theatres and halls we wanted to take our console to a further stage of quiet. The RR-PSU is another addition to our ancillary range of equipment that makes this possible with our SD consoles. Combine it with an SD11 and you have the makings of an amazing little broadcast console” The DiGiCo RR-PSU can be used with SD8, SD9, SD10 and SD11 consoles.

SD-Mini Rack and NANO Size is not important - it’s what it can do The SD-Mini and SD-Nano Rack are the latest additions to the DiGiCo range of high sample rate racks, complementing the SD and D racks to make a completely flexible remote rack solution for any situation. The SD-Mini is a 4U rack and can accept SD input and output cards be they analogue or digital including AES/EBU, Dante, AES-42, ADAT, HD-SDI and Aviom. Running purely digital the Mini can run up to 32 ins and outs or if it’s all analogue you need then a maximum of 32 ins or outs is possible or any combination in banks of eight (8 in and 24 out for example). The Mini has MADI connectivity as standard with optical as an option . With the ability to multi sample
rate to external devices via MADI and also the ability for Gain Tracking™. At the smallest end of the spectrum is the SD-Nano Rack. This 2U stage box works almost exactly the same way as the Mini except it is half the size and therefore can only handle half the amount of inputs and outputs. The Nano is only available with optical connectivity. So, when you need smaller racks distributed around a stage or building, the Mini and the Nano are there to provide you with flexible, affordable digital I/O totally compatible and controllable with the full range of DiGiCo consoles and the larger SD and D racks.
With up to a total of 14 racks on one optical loop, or 28 on a dual loop system, it is easy to see the potential for large corporate events, installations or just expansive stages. This, coupled with the ability for any of the five consoles that can sit on one optical loop being able to address all inputs and individually address output slots on any rack, giving any engineer or system designer the flexibility and power they need to make any complex situation easy and intuitive. EXISTING MODULES AND RACKS
Based around the same Stealth FPGA technology as the Digital Engines in the SD7 itself, the SD-Rack can run the optical loop at 96KHz while providing a down-sampled 48KHz feed to the broadcast truck from one of the MADI output streams even with Gain Tracking™. Of course, it all starts with the mic preamplifier and here is the beginning of a high quality, sophisticated and sonically superior signal path. With the same FPGA technology onboard as the console itself the SD range of racks provide industry leading A/D conversion and DiGiCo’s famous Gain Tracking™. Gain Tracking™ gives all consoles +/-40dB of digital gain which can be set independently on a channel-by-channel basis ensuring that once the analogue gain is set each of the maximum of five consoles on the loop can Gain Track their own mixes. Should there be a need to adjust an analogue gain each Gain Tracked channel will automatically compensate – ensuring your mix stays the same. Not only that but any of the five consoles on the loop can take control of an analogue gain should clipping occur, safe in the knowledge that everyone else’s mix will be unaffected. The SD-Rack features 14 slots providing up to 56 ins and outs and comes with
or without optics. Running at 48kHz the two MADI ins and outs provide 56 fully redundant input and output channels via a duplicate MADI aux. If you need to run at 96kHz you can get a full complement of 56 channels of MADI in and out. Each interface card is hot swappable and the rack will automatically identify the type of card and configure it. The dual power supplies are also hot swappable and easily accessible at the top of the rack ensuring you won’t have to fight a mass of cables to get it out.
The next rack in the DiGiCo series of high sample rate interfaces is the D-Rack. It comes complete with CAT5 audio as standard or with optional optical loop and can run sample rates up to 96kHz and provides 32 inputs and 8 outputs as standard, with the option of eight modular outputs than can either run AES or analogue. This small, flexible rack is designed to sit on the floor, but can just as easily be rack mounted using the optional ears. Additionally, the D-Rack will now also support the new 16 channel Aviom interface. SD and D-Rack: It’s all about connections.
R ‘48V present’ LEDs confirm 48V is present per XLR. A further LED indicates signal present and clip at each analogue input, giving you a complete picture of activity on the SDRack itself. R Dual hot swappable power supply units are located at the top of the rack for fast access, so that your connector looms can remain in place near floor level while the more frequently accessed components are right on top. R The 56 input / 56 output arrangement, in blocks of eight, allows you to populate the SD-Rack with the I/O cards to suit your application. And the cards themselves are hot-swappable, with the SD-Rack automatically detecting the card that has been plugged in.
