IMPORTANT: If a customer wants to have the clean, cable-free set-up as shown in the advertising, they will need to have their TVs pre-mounted to the wall, with either power outlets directly behind the TV, or precut walls where power cords can be fished through and run to existing power outlets. If a customer does not meet these criteria, it’s important to communicate that there may be some exposed cords. Ask qualifying questions to determine if the Wireless Genie Mini works well for this customer’s needs, and works well in this customer’s home. To ensure you’re setting proper expectations, it is important to determine if the Wireless Genie Minis are a good solution, and will work well within a customer’s home. Remember that the Wireless Genie Minis may not be the best solution for every customer depending on how many TVs they use simultaneously, the layout of their home, or even the materials within their home. Some questions to ask to determine customer’s needs are: How many rooms do you want to connect wirelessly? Do you have any concrete/steel/brick walls or fireplaces? n Do you plan to have a TV outside, in a detached garage, upstairs or in a basement? n Are your TVs currently mounted on the wall? If so, do you have power outlets behind them? n n Additionally, remember to communicate that their installer will be able to recommend the best set up based on their home once they are on-site. For new customers, the recommendation is either an all wired set-up or an all wireless setup, unless otherwise needed based upon the layout of their home. Communicate that going Wireless requires one wired Genie HD DVR. Make sure to communicate to customers that going wireless still requires one wired Genie HD DVR in their set-up. If they want to have the clean cable-free set-up as shown in the advertising (and meet the criteria of have pre-mounted TVs with power outlets behind the TVs), they may want to consider putting the wired Genie HD DVR in a bedroom, office or other secondary room, instead of the living room. Remind them they get the same full HD DVR experience and great picture quality on the Wireless Genie Minis that they do on the main Genie HD DVR. The only feature that is exclusive to the Genie HD DVR is picture-in-picture. Communicate that there is a $99 charge to go wireless. Make sure to communicate to customers that going wireless is an additional $99 one-time charge for ALL new customers – even low risk. This charge is for the wireless video bridge installation. Ask the customers if they use more than 4 TVs simultaneously. For customers who use more than 4 TVs in use simultaneously, you may want to recommend HD DVR (HR24 or above) so they can have more than 4 TVs in use at the same time. Note: Additional HD DVRs will be at an additional cost. Ask the customers about their current Wi-Fi set-up For customers with larger homes, they may require more than 1 WVB to ensure sufficient signal strength throughout their home. A good way to determine this is to ask the customer if they have more than one Wi-Fi router in their home. Remember the WVB does not run off of the customer’s personal Wi-Fi network, but if a customer has more than one Wi-Fi router the chances are good that they may need more than one WVB. NOTE: There is not extra charge for a second WVB if it provided during the initial installation. Ver20140311:17:16 PRODUCED BY DIRECTV MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT. Up to 8 Genie Minis can be wirelessly connected to the main Genie HD DVR. This capability means you don't need to run coax cable to each WGM. Please note: WGMs are not completely wireless. Each WGM has 2 cords: a power cord that plugs into a regular power outlet, and the HDMI cord that plugs into the TV's HDMI input. Claim: Never see the clutter of cable again ■ What it means: In rooms with WGMs, you don’t need to run coax cable. And WGMs are small enough to be hidden behind most TVs—so you won't see the boxes. Assuming the customer has a wall-mounted TV with a power supply directly behind the TV, you should be able to install a WGM with no visible boxes or wires. Claim: DIRECTV gives you the freedom to move your TV anywhere ■ What it means: With WGMs, the customer can move their TV anywhere, in or outside their home, that has clear signal to the installed Wireless Video Bridge. This capability lets you move your TV into a spare room or on your patio with just a few easy steps. All the customer needs is a power outlet. Actual range of wireless signal varies and may be affected by several factors including, but not limited to: home construction materials, obstructions, electromagnetic interference and other environmental factors. Claim: Connect multiple TVs wirelessly to one HD DVR ■ What it means: The WGMs communicate with the HD DVR via a wireless signal—not your Wi-Fi Internet network, so it doesn't use up your bandwidth. With Genie you only need 1 HD DVR to support your entire home. One Genie can connect up to 8 Genie Minis (standard or wireless models), with 4 TVs watching live or recorded programming simultaneously at any given time. Each Genie Mini provides a full HD DVR experience—it's like having a Genie HD DVR in every room. In total, a Genie HD DVR can provide a full HD DVR experience to 9 total TVs in your home. Limit of three remote viewings per Genie HD DVR at a time. Here you can see how various equipment connects to the Genie HD DVR: ■ ■ ■ ■ The C41W Wireless Genie Minis connect via the Wireless Video Bridge (WVB) Standard DIRECTV Genie Minis, third party DIRECTV Ready TVs and existing HD DVRs and HD Receivers connect via coax cable to the Whole Home Network. The HR44 Genie has a built-in CCK and connects directly to the customer’s existing router. The HR34 Genie requires an external CCK. Wi-Fi Router HR24 WGM WVB The Wireless Video Bridge serves up all the benefits of an Internet-connected Genie HD DVR to the Wireless Genie Minis, without interfering with the home Wi-Fi signal. Genie HD DVR WGM WGM NOTE: All receivers and clients are connected to the TV via an HDMI cable (not pictured). See additional disclaimers on page 6. The Wireless Genie Mini (WGM) is a new option for customers that want the freedom to place their TVs anywhere they want, and to limit the growing number of wires in their homes. Now customers can re-organize and change the layout of their rooms, or even move their TVs from one room to another, without being concerned as to the location of a coax outlet. ■ It all starts with the Genie—the entertainment hub of the home—which shares content over a private, separate wireless network through the Wireless Video Bridge with WGMs. The Genie also works over the wired Whole Home DVR Network with other connected devices, also known as clients, such as the Genie Mini (C31 and C41), and DIRECTV Ready TVs. ■ Once the Wireless Video Bridge (WVB) is installed, customers will have additional flexibility to easily add additional rooms. Gone are the days of having to wait for a technician to add another room, now customers can just call in and have an additional WGM sent to them and easily install it wherever they wish. ■ What do the Wireless Genie Minis do? ■ WGMs connect to the Genie HD DVR via the WVB in order to access its programming, recorded content and other DVR functionality. You’ll need one WGM for each additional TV unless it is DIRECTV Ready. Can I use a Wireless Genie Mini by itself? ■ Because the WGMs do not have tuners, they cannot receive DIRECTV programming or respond to DVR commands without being connected to the Genie HD DVR through the Wireless Video Bridge. Is the Wireless Genie Mini completely wireless? ■ The WGM communicates wirelessly with the Genie HD DVR, but does require a power cord and HDMI connection to the TV. ■ While the WGMs themselves are wireless, the Genie HD DVR still connects to your Whole Home system and the WVB via coax cable, and to the Internet via the CCK. Is the Wireless Video Bridge completely wireless? ■ The WVB does require connection into coax network and a power cord. Does the Genie HD DVR need to be connected to the Internet for the Wireless Genie Mini to work? ■ No. The WGM and WVB work independently from the Genie Internet connection. ■ However, when the Genie HD DVR is connected to the Internet, the Genie HD DVR and WGMs can access benefits of connectivity such as VOD, Pandora, YouTube and the new HD TV apps. How does the Wireless Video Bridge work? ■ The WVB creates a private, separate, local network that WGMs can connect to wirelessly. ■ The WVB will deliver video and the user interface seamlessly to the WGMs as if there was a traditional coax network in the home. Does the Wireless Video Bridge work on non-DIRECTV clients? ■ No. At this time, the non-DIRECTV clients will need a wired connection to the Genie HD DVR through the Whole Home DVR Network. Only WGMs can connect to the WVB. Will the Wireless Video Bridge work with other DIRECTV HD DVRs and HD Receivers? ■ No, the WVB only works with Wireless Genie Minis (C41W). Genie Minis (C31, C41), HD Receivers and HD DVRs require a wired connection to the Whole Home DVR Network in order to access recorded content on the Genie. Can I combine the Genie HD DVR with other DIRECTV HD DVRs and Receivers? ■ Yes, the Genie will work with any other DIRECTV HD DVRs and HD Receivers that are compatible with Whole-Home DVR service, so you can play, pause, rewind and delete recorded content on the Genie from any room of the house. ■ You will not be able to record content to the Genie from a connected HD DVR. See additional disclaimers on page 6. Ver20140311:17:16 PRODUCED BY DIRECTV MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT. FOR SALES PERSONNEL USE ONLY. NOT FOR PUBLICATION OR CUSTOMER DISTRIBUTION. 5/7 DIRECTV Genie™ and Wireless Genie Mini (WGM)—FAQs ■ Any HD receivers, HD DVRs, Genie Minis (C31, C41) or non-DIRECTV clients will need a wired connection to the Whole Home DVR system to access content from the Genie. How many TVs does Genie HD DVR provide with DIRECTV service? ■ The Genie can provide full HD DVR functionality and DIRECTV programming in up to 8 separate rooms for each connected TV. However, only 4 TVs—including the TV connected directly to Genie—can show live or recorded content at the same time. ■ If a customer has 4 WGM-connected rooms in use simultaneously, clients in rooms 5–8 will see a message telling them they have reached their active room limit, and to turn off one of the WGMs to enable service in the new room they would like to use. ■ If a customer expects to have more than 4 TVs in use at the same time, we recommend using HD DVRs for those extra TVs to ensure the best entertainment experience. How many shows can I record and watch at once? ■ Each Genie HD DVR has five tuners so you can record up to 5 programs of your choice at a time. If you are recording a show on the Genie, you can watch it at the same time in up to three other rooms. You can also play the show later in multiple rooms simultaneously. Can I pause, play and rewind live TV with the Wireless Genie Minis? ■ Yes, you can pause, play and rewind live TV in any room with a WGM. Can all of the TVs connected to the Genie HD DVR record shows? ■ You can schedule a show to record on the Genie from any Genie Mini, Wireless Genie Mini or DIRECV Ready TV that is connected to it, with full and independent capabilities to schedule recordings to the primary Genie HD DVR. You will not be able to record content to the Genie HD DVR from a connected HD DVR. Can I get On Demand programming with the Wireless Genie Mini? ■ Yes, you can access On Demand programming with the WGM if the Genie is connected to the Internet. Are Wireless Genie Minis able to skip commercials automatically during pre-recorded content? ■ Like any HD DVR, WGMs can fast-forward through commercials on recorded shows but they do not skip them automatically. Is the Wireless Video Bridge RVU-enabled? ■ Yes, but it only works wirelessly with the WGM—not with DIRECTV Ready TVs, even if the TV is Wi-Fi ready. What is RVU/DIRECTV Ready and how does it work? ■ RVU is a software technology that is built into the Genie HD DVR, enabling it to act as a server for clients such as the Genie Minis (C31, C41), WGM (C41W) and DIRECTV Ready devices (only DIRECTV Ready TVs are available today). RVU allows the clients to access all live and recorded content from the Genie, as well as User Interface (UI) features and broadband-based services on their televisions. How far ahead does the DIRECTV On-Screen Guide go? ■ You can view up to 14 days of programming in the DIRECTV On-Screen Guide. How many hours of programming can the Genie HD DVR hold? ■ The Genie has a 1 Terabyte (1TB) hard drive and can hold up to 800 hours of SD programming or 200 hours of HD programming. (Actual recording capacity varies based on type of programming being recorded.) Can I access DIRECTV TV Apps on the Genie HD DVR and WGMs? ■ Yes, you can access DIRECTV TV Apps on the Genie and WGMs including Pandora, ScoreGuide, Facebook, Twitter and other general apps such as news and sports. These apps are integrated into the Hi-Def Guide and can be easily accessed via the menu. It is important to remember that most apps require an Internet connection. See additional disclaimers on page 6. Ver20140311:17:16 PRODUCED BY DIRECTV MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT. FOR SALES PERSONNEL USE ONLY. NOT FOR PUBLICATION OR CUSTOMER DISTRIBUTION. 6/7 DIRECTV Genie™ and Wireless Genie Mini (WGM)—FAQs Can I set parental controls on the Genie HD DVR and Wireless Genie Minis? ■ Yes, you can set up the parental controls directly on the Genie and WGMs for access restrictions for each individual room. Are Wireless Genie Minis still assessed a monthly charge as an additional receiver? ■ Yes. There is a $6 monthly "Additional TV" fee each additional TV after the first TV. What are the dimensions of the Genie HD DVR? ■ HR44: Height: 1.97 inches, Width: 13.11 inches, Depth: 9.69 inches. ■ HR34: Height: 3.25 inches, Width: 15.75 inches, Depth: 11.85 inches. What are the dimensions of the Wireless Genie Mini? ■ Height: 1.024 inches, Width: 5.906 inches, Depth: 3.661 inches. What are the dimensions of the Wireless Video Bridge? ■ Height: 7.24 inches, Width: .96 inches, Depth: 7 inches. Can I hide the Wireless Genie Mini out of sight? ■ Yes, the WGM can easily be hidden anywhere it can maintain a strong signal, like behind the TV or in a cabinet when used with a Radio Frequency (RF)-capable remote control as they do not require a direct line of sight with the box. Is Picture in Picture (PiP) available on the Genie HD DVR and Wireless Genie Minis? ■ PiP is available on the Genie, however it is not available on the WGMs. Can a customer request an HR44 by model number? ■ Unfortunately, we cannot assign model numbers to specific orders as the model installed depends very much on the inventory the technician will have on his truck. If a customer requests a Genie by model number, please kindly let them know that you do not have a way to let the technician know which model to install and they will not be disappointed with either model installed. How is the Wireless Genie Mini different from the Genie Mini? ■ The WGM has all the features of the Genie Mini (C31, C41) but gives you the flexibility only a wireless system can provide. Wireless remote viewing requires a Wireless Video Bridge and a C41W Wireless Genie Mini. Wired Remote viewing requires a model C31, C41, H25 HD Receiver(s) or DIRECTV Ready TV in each additional room. Either configuration also requires a SWiM network and Advanced Receiver Service ($25/mo.). There is a limit of three remote viewing per Genie at a time.
