The APG SMX15 is a two-way coaxial speaker offering high performance as well acoustically as ergonomically. The low frequency section uses a new generation neodymium 15” cone speaker mounted in a ported enclosure. This new loudspeaker takes advantage of a proprietary technique of forced thermal transfer, which drastically reduces thermal compression effects, resulting in exceptional sound pressure capacity down to 60 Hz. The high frequency section uses a neodymium compression driver offering extremely low distortion and frequency extension up to 20 kHz. The specific shape of the cabinet, combined with the unique AST (Aiming Tuning System) allow the speaker to be tilted at 5 different angles, each position offering the lowest possible profile. A total of three integrated handles answers all needs in terms of lifting and handling. Like the other speakers from the Dispersion Series, the SMX15 uses the coaxial technology which confers a perfectly coherent sound field to it on a conical dispersion of 85°. Connectors are located in two recesses, one on each side, providing protection when in use. The SMX15 operates in bi-amplification only, with a dedicated active processor DMS26. The frequency and phase response of the SMX15 are perfectly linear, resulting in exceptional feedback reduction. For low frequency extension, APG recommends the following subwoofers: TB115S, TB118S, TB215S and TB218S.
SMX15 Stage monitor
The SMX15 has been designed for applications requiring a combination of accurate sonic precision and very high sound pressure down to low frequencies. It offers a quality and an accuracy rivaling the best studio monitors whilst producing a sound pressure level seldom heard from such a compact box. The response obtained in amplitude and phase is perfectly linear resulting in exceptional feedback reduction. The sophisticated specific ergonomic of the SMX15 makes it fully versatile for all types of applications such as stage monitor for live concert or as a F.O.H. for indoor configuration. The ATS™ system allows the speaker to be tilted at five different angles. (15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°) The SMX15 can answer all professional applications: versatile, compact and easy to handle, quick and precise to install, offering multiple handles and optional rigging system, nothing is missing. Combined with compact subwoofers, the SMX15 makes perfect nearfiled or medium field high power system or stage monitor application for side-fill or drum-fill.

This system functioning in bi-amplification, the table of specifications reveals distinctly a low / low-mid and mid / high section. This information makes it possible to precisely know the quantity of energy realised by each transducer, as well as the frequency bands in which they operate. (1) The efficiency of 108 dB is before attenuation. This attenuation not only makes it possible to linearize the system but also to increase the acceptable power in the section considered. 2) Dispersion is controlled from 800 Hz. The angles given here are irrelevant below this frequency. (3) In order to take full benefit of the dynamic performance, sonic quality and reliability of the speakers, the recommended amplification must at least correspond to the AES rating. Lesser amplification is acceptable for applications requiring less power (near-field, distributed systems,...), whilst not being less than half the AES rating. The AES power handling corresponds to a 2 hour test using weighted pink noise (peak factor of 6dB) through a frequency range of one decade. (4) The 4 pins Speakon connectors are wired 1+, 1- in Lo/LoMid and 2+, 2- in Mid/Hi.

Signal Processing The dedicated processor includes in addition to the standard functions with simulation of limitation parameters such as diaphragm displacement, voice coil temperature control and amplifier clip. This processor also allows to optimize the phase alignment between the subwoofers and the loudspeakers and feature a selection of switches to adapt the subwoofer being used. Factory presets are available for digital processor APG DMS26.
