Pebble Watch: http://getpebble.com/#customize-with-coding, http://www.mobileburn.com/21252/review/pebble-review-the-smartest-watch-for-yoursmartphone, The Pebble watch connects to an iPhone or Android device through Bluetooth (2.1 + EDR and 4.0). The watch itself has four buttons, a vibrating motor, and a 3-axis accelerometer with gesture detection. The replaceable wrist bands are 22 mm. Motion Technology: www.fitlinxx.net/pebble-science.htm The Pebble is designed to gather information during activities including biking, elliptical training, walking, jogging, and running. The Pebble measures patterns of motion to determine total steps, activity time, and the individual’s speed. Collected data is automatically sent through the cloud-based FitLinxx database to a customized personal website. The backlight feature is activated with a slight shock (flick) of the wrist. This is the “equivalent of a person’s foot striking the ground.” The watch will then stay awake to monitor steps to determine the user’s activity time. The accelerometer inside the watch is only used to control the LED backlight. Button stiffness: http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Pebble-Smart-WatchReview_id3259#12Smart watch user states that the “buttons are slightly stiffer than you’d expect, but not uncomfortable and the stiffness prevents accidental presses.” Pebble Features: http://www.palmit.com/2012/04/16/allerta-pebble-watch/ The Pebble utilizes: a. ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller b. 1.26-inch 144×168-pixel black and white e-paper display with backlight c. Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR d. A scratch and shatter resistant lens e. The battery is expected to last more than seven days on a charge f. Water resistant Summary: Even though the size of the Pebble watch is compact and comfortable for users who are active, the technology itself is not correct for the intent of the hands-free wireless presentation remote. 2. inPulse Watch: http://www.inpulsewatch.com/inpulsesdk.asp#pulse_cancel_timer Developers Guide – inPulse SDK: The inPulse watch allows the user to develop his own apps with the use of C coding. Summary: It is not clear the extent to which coding can be written for different applications or if this coding can be developed for a watch-PPT interface. 3. Bluetooth LED: - Fast blinking: In connect mode - Slow blinking: Connected - Off: Not connected Touchpad: - Only moves the cursor - The click-trigger is located on the underside of the remote and acts as a left-mouse click Summary: The touchpad on this remote only activates the mouse cursor. Slide transition is accomplished using the left and right arrows. The Bluetooth connection extends up to 33 feet away.
Joanna Dzionara-Norsen 3/25/13 Presentation Remote Benchmarking 4. Leap Motion Technology: https://www.leapmotion.com/product Leap Motion technology allows the user to interact with a computer over a range of 8 cubic feet through a 3 inch controller. This controller is connected to the computer through a USB cable. It distinguishes the difference between your fingers and understands when you bend, flip, or fold your hands. You can move your hands in 3-dimensions in a 150 degree field of view. You can reach out, grab objects, and move them around. The controller tracks all 10 fingers up to 1/100th of a millimeter and it’s 200 times more sensitive than existing motion-control technology. Summary: This particular application of motion technology, though innovative, would not allow the user to activate the device out of an 8 cubic foot range at greater than 150 degree angles. This angle is the greatest constraint because it does not allow the user to walk around an entire classroom and still maintain connection with the controller.
