INTRODUCTION This manual helps you install Display Emulator Tool. Display Emulator tool designed for autonomous operation instead of built-in car radio displays or for service repair needs 2. CHECKLIST AND REQUIREMENTS Following describes what items are supplied with the Display Emulator tool and system requirements of the software  Display Emulator Tool– supplied  External 12V DC power supply source required ► ► ► ► Desktop/Laptop PC and a free serial port (update procedure) Memory - Minimum 32 Mbytes Display - Color SVGA display recommended OS-MS-Windows (Windows 98/2000/XP/Vista/7) 3. (IIC bus) will switch automatically every time when target is connected to the communication interface and car radio ON or can be set by jumper (JP1, see table 1) Serial port connector JP3/JP4 Left position: Normal operate; Right position: Update mode Pins count: From left to right 1,2,3,4,5,6 1-2 back light header pins 3-4 JP1 reserved or 8/10 bit mode 5-6 JP2 UPDATE jumper Interface header. QUICK START ► Connect the Display Emulator Tool to a target car radio (APPENDIX; rear connector signals of SC303 car radio) ► Connect a power supply source (DC source 12V; 1 A) to a target car radio and to the Display Emulator tool ► Turn ON power supply source 1. Press "RESET" button, make message visible (adjust contrast potentiometer): Contrast potentiometer Reset Button Figure 3 2. After reset you'll see on the display message "00: 00: 00" 3. Press "Power ON" button on a target car radio 4. You'll see message "SAFE". It'll change to message "10 - - - - " afterwards 5. Input the code number. Press "AS" button on the car radio for a little while 5-10 seconds. From now car radio ready to operate Figure 4 ©Microcontroller-café &Checkpoint LAB Display Emulator Tool User’s Guide 5 5. UPDATE PROCEDURE 1. Unmount (open) jumper JP2 (Figure 2) 2. Re-set jumpers JP3 and JP4 to the right position (see Figure 2) 3. Turn ON Power supply source 4. Make sure, that update LED is lit 5. Start edeupdate.exe program by clicking ‘START’ button. You'll see blinking update LED when procedure is in progress 6. After finish turn OFF Power supply source, mount (short) JP2, re-set JP3 and JP4 back to the left position (see Figure 2) 7. Press "RESET" button (see Figure 3) From now Display Emulator tool ready to operate with updated firmware APPENDIX SC303 (GM0303) car radio rear connectors (Figure 5);.
