Network Analysis and Troubleshooting Solutions 6 Line Interface Modules (LIMs) Quickly make the physical connection between your network under test and the analyzer hardware using a LIM. LIMs provide link-layer connectivity to the data acquisition system embedded in DNA hardware. LIMs gather physical and link layer statistics, and provide run-time stream to media. As well, most LIMs contain the hardware resources to generate traffic for their associated network technologies (LAN, WAN, ATM). The type of LIMs available are: J6810B J6811A J6813B J6815B J6816B J6817B J6818A J6820B J6821A J6824A J6828A J6830A J6831A J6832A OC-3/OC-12 STM-1/STM-4 STM-1o/OC-3 – with Opt-SC connectors E3/T3 (DS3) – with BNC connectors T1/E1 – with Bantam, RJ-45/RJ-48C connectors E1/T1 – with DB-9, RJ-45/RJ-48C connectors E1 – with BNC connectors ATM25 – with RJ-45 connectors High-Speed V-Series (37-pin connector) HSSI (High-Speed Serial Interface) Eight-port T1/E1 – with RJ-45/RJ-48C connectors Four-port STM-1/OC-3 LIM Multiplexer 10Base-T, 10/100Base-TX Ethernet 10/100Base-FX Ethernet (fiber interface) 1000Base-X (Gigabit) Ethernet (SX, LX, and TX interfaces) Most LIMs provide two input ports and two output ports allowing any of the following connection configurations: WAN Terminal Mode WAN Bridged Monitor Mode WAN Monitor Jack Mode WAN Monitor Through Mode LAN Node Mode LAN Monitor Mode DNA, DNA MX, and DNA PRO support a common set of hot-swappable LIMs. Provides line termination as an end-point terminal Uses both inputs and outputs of WAN LIMs for bi-directional monitoring at test access points; high input impedance should normally be selected Uses both inputs of WAN LIMs only for bi-directional monitoring at protected monitor points Uses both inputs and outputs of WAN LIMs providing bi-directional repeater functionality plus bi-directional monitoring functionality. DNA hardware incorporates a wide variety of access interfaces. DNA PRO and DNA MX support the ability to make a remote connection, start a measurement, drop the connection, and reconnect later to retrieve results. The MultiUser application enables the same ability for DNAs used with Signaling Analyzer software. Dispatched Distributed Drop-off/remote Local Take the analyzer with you to perform tests in your network locally. Remote attended/unattended When using the DNAs in local mode leave the equipment behind and go back to your office to perform remote analysis using a telemetry option. Distributed Install in central offices or network sites and connect remotely using Instrument Manager when you need to test the network. Operate under NTC with other DNA PROs and MX’s for true distributed testing including RMON2 capability on LAN and WAN. VoIP Video Data Mobile Network Analysis and Troubleshooting Solutions 11 Direct Connect and Network Connect A flexible hardware architecture allows you to directly connect to a specific DNA, platform or any analyzer on the network. Direct Connect Connect a single DNA platform to the network under test and control it using a PC on which the application software is installed. Direct Connect Single Acquisition Signaling Analyzer Client Mobile Network DNA Direction connection of DNA hardware provides a straight forward means for run-time testing. Network Connect Call Manager Client 1 Multi-User Client 1 IP Network Call Manager Client n DNA Multi-User Client n MSC RNC UE SGSN NodeB Give multiple users simultaneous test capabilities using Multi-User and Call Manager applications. Network Analysis and Troubleshooting Solutions 12 Instrument Control Modes and Management Secure web browser-based control Control a DNA PRO or a DNA MX using a windows web browser from a standard PC using password-protected Secure HyperText Transfer Protocol (https). There is no need to have any Network Analyzer software installed in the client PC. With the wireless option for the DNA PRO, you can operate the analyzer from a wireless enabled PC. Instrument Manager The Instrument Manager application can be downloaded from the DNA PRO or DNA MX into the client PC at any time via the PC’s web browser. Use Instrument Manager software to configure and control several remote DNA PRO or DNA MX platforms, with or without attached DNAs. Attached DNAs are seen as extra interfaces on the DNA PRO or DNA MX platforms. • Discover a DNA PRO or DNA MX on a local subnet and discover any attached DNAs • Add a DNA PRO or DNA MX from discovered list (instruments beyond the local subnet must be added by IP address) • Allow a remote session to the desktop using remote desktop protocol • Update software on multiple DNA PROs and/or DNA MXs simultaneously • Display instrument status – up (reachable)/down (not reachable)/locked (to a user) • Configure DNA hardware (assigning hostnames, changing OS passwords, etc.) • Get DNA status information such as LIM type DNAs can also be controlled and managed by using the “Select Network Analyzer LIM” feature, making a direct connection from Network Analyzer Software to remote DNA hardware. Network Analysis and Troubleshooting Solutions 13 Time Synchronization DNA hardware supports three types of time synchronization between multiple DNA platforms: • GPS interface hardware and connectors • NTP through an embedded NTP client • Control/Sync cable (standard RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet cable) Global Positioning System (GPS) Each member of the DNA analyzer portfolio supports GPS time-synchronization. Using GPS, synchronize any number of these analyzers worldwide for time-correlated measurements. Standard interfaces are provided for the connection of an external GPS receiver. GPS provides an accuracy of ± 1 µs for LAN ± 5 µs for WAN/ ATM LIMs. Control & Sync In addition to the GPS time-synchronization capability, these analyzers have the JDSU Control & Sync technology hardware. Synchronize interconnected analyzers accurately via the same standard Ethernet cable that handles the TCP/IP/Ethernet control. Time-synchronize a daisy-chain of up to 10 DNAs in a 20 meter cable from a DNA PRO or from a DNA MX. Optionally, the first analyzer in a chain could also receive its timing from a GPS receiver, providing a very flexible time-synchronized test system that can be geographically distributed with unlimited number of DNAs. Control & Sync provides precision of ± 500 ns for LAN, 5 µs for WAN/ATM LIMs. Network Time Protocol (NTP) Synchronize a DNA via the Network Time Protocol (NTP) to an external NTP server using the Control & Sync In (Ethernet) port on each device. The J6802B DNA MX and J6803B DNA PRO operating systems can be time-synchronized via NTP to an external NTP server using the 10/100 Ethernet telemetry port. The acquisition system in the DNA MX or DNA PRO can, in turn, be synchronized to the DNA MX or DNA PRO operating system using NTP, with an NTP server running on the DNA MX or DNA PRO operating system. NTP provides an accuracy of ± 20 ms. Use the hardware’s synchronization capabilities to time correlate measurements across interfaces and geographies. Network Analysis and Troubleshooting Solutions 14 Run-Time Store to Media (RTSM) Need to collect and analyze traffic over extremely long periods of time? DNAs incorporate a unique data streaming capability. In RTSM (run-time store to media) mode, the instruments export processed information in run time. The resulting information flow can be sent to a software application to be analyzed in run-time, or can be saved to storage for later analysis. The J6801B DNA, J6802B DNA MX and J6803B DNA PRO can stream to media up to 55 Mbps using the Control and Sync port. By utilizing a dedicated gigabit Ethernet port, the J6801B DNA and J6803B DNA PRO can stream up to 400 Mbps when using the Signaling Analyzer Multi-User software. RTSM port The dedicated Gigabit Ethernet port of the J6801B DNA and J6803B DNA PRO allows high performance streaming to media at run time.
