Pay attention to the variations of the different models. Make sure all parts are accounted for before discarding any packaging material. If any parts are missing, do not attempt to install your electronic tap. Please call 0800 0723 404 immediately to notify us. Warning 1) To avoid reflection problems keep a distance of more than 300 mm. between the sink and the spout. 2) This tap model, with an infrared sensor pointing down, is not intended to be used together with a sink of a reflective material such as stainless steel. 3) If a sink strainer is straight below the tap sensor, use a strainer with a non reflective finish (do not use a chrome plated one). Preparation for installation Flush water supply lines thoroughly before installing the tap. Do not allow dirt, Teflon tape or metal particles to enter the tap. Shut off water supply. Important All plumbing is to be installed in accordance with applicable codes and regulations. 6 | Dolphin Blue | 400 Series PRE INSTALLATION Warning ● To avoid reflection problems it is recommended to keep a distance of more than 300mm between the sink and the spout. If the distance is below 300mm a simple mock-up should be effected to confirm the tap functions as desired in your application before final installation. You may require a Dolphin Blue remote control to adjust the range. ● Do not connect water or power supplies or remove the black label covering the infra-red sensor until you have read and understood these instructions. Please see page 13. ● It is not recommended to use DB400 series with a polished stainless steel sink. For this type of application a separate panel-mounted sensor should be used – please speak to our technical sales team. ● Please observe the guide to minimum cavity depths as shown in the table. This is important because the water supply hose must not be kinked due to lack of space. Please note we have provided this information as a guide and cannot be held responsible for fundamental design errors. If your situation differs to those shown below please call us on 0800 0723 404, and we will provide you with a solution. Unplug the solenoid connector (red arrow) Unscrew the solenoid (yellow arrow) Please ensure that the flow direction arrow (green circle) is pointing towards the tap. The solenoid WILL NOT WORK if the fitting is reverse plumbed! The tap will continuously flow at a reduced rate. The diaphragm is then accessible. It can be seen that leaking can be caused by very small particles. The larger the particle the faster the tap will be leaking. Remove the diaphragm and inspect very closely for particles on the surface, and clean. Take care not to lose the piston in the centre of the solenoid housing. The solenoid seating in the tap body should also be checked for particle ingress. The piston should click and hold down when pushed into the solenoid. If the tap has been leaking a steady stream of water it is very likely to be that the piston spring has become dislodged. If the piston does not hold in the depressed position it should be carefully removed to reveal the small spring beneath it. If it is lying on its side across the base, rather than standing upright as shown, it should be removed with a small slotted screwdriver. Do not deform the spring but allow the coils to grip the screwdriver blade. Occasionally there is no debris causing the leak but the spring needs to be carefully stretched 1mm to give increased pressure on the diaphragm. Take great care not to deform the spring. Replace the piston with the spring inserted into the piston base. Holding the solenoid housing upside down, and inserting the piston swiftly will assist this operation. The solenoid housing should then be reassembled and replaced in the tap body. If the tap is still leaking please recheck the diaphragm for particles as the smallest contamination will cause leaking. Also wipe the diaphragm to remove any greasy deposits that may be present. A new diaphragm should be fitted if the tap is still leaking after thorough inspection and cleaning. However, there are some simple DO’s and DON’Ts and TIPs which will help avoid 99% of the situations often associated with infrared systems for washrooms. It should be noted that these details are not exhaustive but will help eliminate 99% of situations. It is recommended that for larger projects especially where design restraints will result in taps being set on minimum or maximum settings, we would advise a very simple mock-up be set with materials to be used to ensure infrared device operates as desired. DO’s Battery Back up Pressure DO include a battery back-up device when installing a transformer powered infrared tap in an accessible washroom. DO ensure the static and dynamic pressure at the Dolphin Blue device is within the tolerances stated on the product literature / data sheet (please ask if you cannot find it). Most devices are tested to operate between 0.5 and 8 bar. If pressures are outside the stated tolerances please contact the Technical Helpline on 01424 20 22 24. Security Time DO ensure security time is set at approximately 20 seconds on infrared taps especially in locations susceptible to vandalism. Also important: to be set at 20 seconds to comply with ECA/WTL scheme. Flow Rate DO specify what flow rate is required when placing your order. Taps - 6 litre / minute is standard. 4 litre / minute is readily available. Filters Do ensure filters supplied with the Dolphin Blue device are installed. It may not be sufficient to rely on the filters often included with thermostatic mixing valves as the gauge of the filter mesh may not be fine enough. It is also important to ensure pipes are flushed prior to connection and filters are inspected on a regular basis. Time between inspections will depend on hardness and quality of water. Shower head - 9 litres/ minute is standard, 8 litres / minute is available. Distance from Transformer Please speak to the Dolphin Technical Helpline for other flow rates if required. It is recommended you ensure the maximum distance between a Dolphin Blue Infrared Tap and its power source is 5 metres. DON’Ts Mirrors Panel Mounted Infrared Taps It is not advisable to locate a Dolphin Blue Infrared device directly opposite a mirror where the infrared eye faces the mirror in such a way that it could reflect itself as this can cause false activations even if the mirror is 2-4 metres away from the infrared eye. It is very important to ensure the distance between the sensor and the bottom of basin when installing a panel mounted Dolphin Blue Tap with an integral sensor is a minimum of 300mm above the bottom of the basin. Two Infrared Taps It is not advisable to locate infrared taps directly opposite each other where the infrared eyes face each other as this can also cause false activations even when there is a fair distance between them. TIPs Minimum 300mm distance critical Polished Traps and Sink Surfaces When installing a Dolphin Blue Panel Mounted Tap with an integral sensor it is recommended that you avoid a highly polished chrome trap or sink surface – it will act like a mirror to the tap sensor, potentially causing false activations and wasted water Avoid polished/ chrome strainers High Visibility Clothing ‘Tall’ Version Taps and Spout Lengths It is a feature of most infrared devices in the washroom market that the reflective strips on high visibility clothing may cause the device to operate, even if someone just walks past, with no intention of using it. Consider the position of the water outlet / aerator in relation to the basin. The DB51 Dolphin Blue Remote Control can be used to reduce the range of a device to reduce these false activations but may not eliminate the phenomena completely. Please feel free to discuss spout lengths with the Dolphin Technical Helpline on 01424 2022 24. washrooms worth experiencing 0800 0723 404 Bell-Chem Products Company Haywood Way, Hastings, TN35 4PL [email protected] www.dolphindispensers.co.uk DOLPHIN S O U T H PO I N T, CO M PA S S PARK, B O DI A M , RO B E RTS B R I DG E , T N 3 2 5 B ST, U N I T E D K I N G D OM + 44 (0)1424 202 224 TEL + 44 (0)1424 205 200 FA X h e l l o @ d o l p i n so l u t i o n s.c o .u k d o l p h i n so l u t i o n s.c o .u k
