Introduction The DR-link adapter card needs to be fitted to the DR66 or DR128 if you wish to use the optional DR-switch add-on unit, or any other add-on that requires the DR-link serial connection. The DR-switch provides an additional 24 switch closure control inputs and 16 logic control outputs in a 1U high rack or desk mount case. Up to three units can be connected providing up to 72 additional switch and 48 additional logic controls. These can be custom wired by the installer to allow external equipment to control pre-determined mixer functions, or the mixer to control external equipment. Typical applications include room wall plates for local volume control and source selection, automatic control of room dividers, projection screens, media players, lamps and other equipment. The DR66/128 communicates with the DR-switch via an RJ45 serial connection running the Allen & Heath DRlink protocol. This interface is not available on the standard DR66 and DR128. The adapter card needs to be fitted to provide the additional serial port. This uses the SysNet slot. Refer to the important notes below. The kit includes parts for fitting the card to either the DR66 or the DR128. Installation is a straightforward process requiring removal of the DR66/128 top cover, fitting the option card provided and plugging on the cable harness supplied. Please read these fitting instructions carefully before starting and heed the precautions noted for trouble free installation and use.
Important Notes To use the DR-switch the DR66/128 must be running DR operating software version 2 from V2.11 or greater. DRswitch will not function using earlier versions of software. Make sure your PC is running the compatible version of WinDR. Refer to the Help file provided with the software for details on how to program the controls. These settings are stored as part of the DR66/128 mixer patch memories. The latest version of DR operating software can be downloaded from the Allen & Heath web site: http://www.allen-heath.com. For technical assistance email
[email protected] The DR-link interface card fits into the SysNet option slot in the DR66/128 mixer. This means that you cannot have DRlink and SysNet installed at the same time. The SysNet protocol can be run on the RS232 port instead if required.
NOTE: This work should be carried out by competent service personnel. Any changes or modifications to the equipment not approved by Allen & Heath could void the compliance of the equipment and therefore the users authority to operate it. Fitting the DR-link Interface Card to the DR66/128 The kit includes the DR-link interface card, an IDC cable harness and brackets suitable to fit the card into either the DR66 or the DR128 mixer. Follow the instructions below according to which mixer you have. The interface card contains sensitive integrated circuits which can be damaged by static discharge from human body contact. The card is packed in an anti-static conductive bag to protect it during shipment. To avoid damaging the static sensitive components make sure you discharge any static electricity from your body and any tools you use. One way to do this is to touch the grounded bare metal of the DR chassis. Handle the card by its edges only.
Step 1 Turn off power to the DR66/128 and unplug the mains cable. Remove the fixing screws as shown and lift off the top cover. Do not remove the power unit safety cover or its internal shield.
Step 2 Remove the rear panel SysNet option slot blanking plate by unscrewing the two fixing screws.
Step 3 Locate and carefully unplug the 26way harness that connects between the CPU and Connector circuits.
Step 4 (DR66) Assemble the DR66 metal bracket on to the DR-link card using the two screws, washers and nuts provided. Tighten the nuts to ensure good contact with the PCB ground plane. Press in the two plastic support pillars.
Step 4 (DR128) Assemble the DR-link card on to the DR128 metal bracket using the four screws provided.
Step 5 Fit the assembly into the DR66/128 SysNet slot using the two screws provided. Press the DR66 plastic pillars into the Connector circuit. Ensure the screws are tight.
Step 6 Fold and position the new 26way harness as shown plugging it into the CPU, Connector and DR-link cards. Fold the excess back over the CPU circuit as shown for the DR66. Make sure the harness pins are correctly aligned with the mating connector pins. Push the plugs fully home. Check that the harness is neatly folded with the pin 1 red stripe correctly positioned as shown.
Step 7 Check your work and refit the top cover. Power up the DR66/128 and check that it boots up correctly. DR-LINK Adapter Card Fitting Instructions AP4615
