DAY 1 9:00 Cyclone Volleyball Camp Team Camp Drills Demos in HILTON COLISEUM 9:30 Warm up/ball handling depending on how much time you have Individual with own ball: o Pass to yourself…kneel, sit, lay down & back up. Then so the same with Setting. o Pass/Set to yourself…kneel, sit, lay down & back up o R, L arms back & forth o Pass, Set, R arm, L arm…Head…Knee…Foot… o Setting: Lay on ground…Set between scissor legs (1 hand in front/1 hand behind leg) o Setting: Set behind & then front both legs Partner with 2 balls: Each start with a ball. Stay in loaded position o Pass back & forth while rolling a ball back and forth on the floor o Set back & forth while tossing a ball back and forth at eye level o Swing-Catch. Digger catches & tosses it to attacker to swing. o Swing-Toss-Catch. Dig the first, Set the toss. Other player Swing-Catch Partner with 1 balls: o Pass back & forth, then Set back & forth, then 1 arm back & forth. o Dig to self/Set to partner o Dig to self/Hit to partner o Hit to partner directly off their dig, 3 & switch by setting to partner o Alt Hit/Tip to partner directly off their dig o Alt Hit/Cover to partner directly off their dig o Follow the leader. Player sets to self, makes a move (ie touch head) & sets to partner. Partner copies move & sets back. Continue to add moves. Larger Groups: follow your ball after contact o Shuttle…passing, setting, pepper o 6-point star (need 8 people) 9:45 WARM UP: Box Drill (Error Correct) 1. 4 people out (a left & right front and 2 back row players splitting the court). The rest of the players are in a line behind the back row players. 2. Coach initiates with a ball being attacked at Team A, the other backrow player will step in to set an attacker & play out the rally. 3. During this rally, they players will rotate when the ball is sent over the net. Attacker is off, the setter will replace the attacker & a new person sets in to replace the setter. 4. Coach initiates the next ball to who ever made the error (Error Correct). Missed dig – attack at them. Attacking error – they are set again. 5. Start with cooperative, goal of 30 good digs or 10 in a row. 6. If time, progress to a competitive game to 8 point. Focus: 2nd ball location & Out of system attack choices. Decision-making. Cyclone Team Camp - 1 Morning Drills: Play for ~25 min, then take 5 min break for drink and switch courts. 10:00 ROUND 1: Bingo Bango Bongo 1. 6 on 6. A team must win 3 in a row to score a point. 2. Downball, OOS ball and Serve (winning side SERVES.. defense win the game) 3. When a team wins, yell o Downball: Bingo o OOS: Bango o Serve (win all 3 in a row): Bingo Bango Bongo ***Winning team must do a crazy dance to finish off the game. 4. Flip Front row/back row or rotate (R3-R6-R4-R1-R5-R2). Focus: Pressure to stay low error, high energy & very competitive 10:30 ROUND 2: Score Flip 1. 6 on 6. Rally score game to 15 points. Rotate like a game. 2. At any time, for learning, competitive and intensity reasons, the coach can reverse the scores. No complaining. Each team must then deal with the score as it then stands. 3. For example, it may go from 14-10 lead to suddenly being down 10-14. 4. Bonus Points: o 1st game: O/R line kill. o 2nd game: M transition cutback (z1) kill. Focus: Serve/Pass. Hitters hitting different shots. Competing. 11:00 ROUND 3: Cyclone Feud. (5 before 3) 1. 6 on 6. Start in base position. 2. First Question is a JOUST. If win joust, that team receives free balls. 3. That team needs to win 5 freeballs before they are stopped by 3 times (XXX). o Define offensive plays to run off the freeball & how to defend them. - A/4/Setter up - 3/5/4 - Slide/4/Setter up - Slide/X/4 - Random 4. If defending team stops 3 times (XXX) in a row, they STEAL the other team’s 5 points. 5. Play to 15 points. Flip Front row/back row or rotate (R3-R6-R4-R1-R5-R2). Focus: Offensive timing/plays. Defending offensive plays. Compete. 11:30 ROUND 4: 2nd Ball Who? 1. 6 v 6. Starting in base position. 2. Coach hits at Team A setter to start and play out the rally. 3. Then coach hits at Team B setter and play out the rally. 4. Rally Score to 5 points. 5. Flip Front row/back row or rotate (R3-R6-R4-R1-R5-R2). Focus: Who takes 2nd ball when setter digs? OOS set 5x5. Pins decision-making & hitting with a purpose – when to go for it and when to hit a shot that puts opponent in trouble. 12:00 Lunch Break Cyclone Team Camp - 2 Afternoon Drills: Play for ~20 min, then take 5 min break for drink and switch courts. 1:30pm Session Begins. Teams go directly to assigned courts to warm up. 1:45 ROUND 5: Deep Court with Middle Blockers 1. Front row setter and middle blocker plus 3 backcourt players in base position. 2. First 10 min: Alternate free Balls to each side. Second 10 min: Enter a controlled attack to work on transition. 3. Setters have the option to set middle, set backrow attack, or dump. 4. Extra players will rotate in for the backrow attacker 5. 5-point rally scored games. 6. Then switch in a new middle/setter & play again. Focus: Setter & Middle connection. Backrow attack. 2:10 ROUND 6: The Comeback (mini games per rotation) 1. 6 v 6. Scoring 16-20. Games to 25, win by 2. 2. The 16pt side uses bonus scoring (1pt for a side out / 2 pts for a service point). 3. The 20pt side uses rally scoring. 4. Once there is a tie, both team are at rally score. 5. Stay in one rotation. Rotate (R3-R6-R4-R1-R5-R2). Focus: Serve/Pass. Stay ahead/finishing. Dealing with the feeling of someone catching up. 2:35 ROUND 7: Hitter vs. Hitter 1. 6 on 6 in base position on each side. Alternate freeballs to each side. 2. Coach will designate 2 hitters of somewhat equal ability to go against each other. It can be the same position or two different positions. Examples of LIVE HITTERS: OH vs OH, RS vs RS, M vs M, OH vs RS, M vs RS. 3. The setter can set any player but the “LIVE” hitter is worth +2pts. All other players are worth only +1pt. 4. Play rally score to 4 points, cap at 6 for a team Big Point 5. Flip back to front, rotate in new players. Focus: Attacking vs. a committed block. Ability to transition to a specific player. 3:00 BREAK – team travel to new gym if necessary. 3:20 ROUND 8: 1-2-1 1. 6 on 6. Start in Serve Receive (SR). 4 ball sequence. 2. All 4 balls go to one side (receiving side) and then the other way before rotating. o SR, Downball, Downball, SR. o Alternative sequence (more trans): SR, attack at setter, attack at off blocker, SR. 3. Each ball is worth a point. If a team wins ALL 4pts, they will receive a BONUS POINT. 4. Rotate R3-R6-R4-R1-R5-R2. 5. Whatever team has the most points at the end of 6 rotations wins. Focus: Handling different types of balls entered. Consistent hitting with a purpose. Cyclone Team Camp - 3 3:45 ROUND 9: The Great Wall (cover drill) 1. 6 on 6. Base position. Ball initiated by coach attacking into block & then steps off. o Coach will alternate sides they initiate the ball & rotate around court (LF side 1, RF side 2, LF side 2, RF side 1) so teams cover & transition from different zones. 2. The team then covers and transition this ball to play out the rally. Add The Great Wall (the additional blocker – 7th blocker). The 7th player steps on to block and then step off so the OH/RS attacks vs 3 blockers. 3. Rally score to 5pts. Bonus point for coverage and getting another swing. 4. Flip Front row/back row or rotate (R3-R6-R4-R1-R5-R2). Focus: Attacking High against a solid block. Defense & Coverage. 4:10 ROUND 10: Guess Who? 1. 6 on 6. Serve & rotate like a normal game but the goal is to complete their LIST before their opponent does. 2. Each team does NOT know what is on their other teams list. Each team should try to strategize if they know what other team is going for especially at the end of game. 3. Team A List Team B List st o OH 1 ball swing for kill o RS 1st ball swing for kill o OH deep 5 Kill o RS tip to donut for kill o RS tip deep line for kill o OH tool for kill o M transition kill on slide o M transition kill on 3 o Setter dump for kill o Setter dump for kill 4. Additional items you can add to create a new list for additional games: o OOS kill. o OOS Kill. o RS tool for kill o OH Line for kill o M tip zone 4 for kill o M kill on slide Focus: Hitting with purpose (earning pts different ways). Figuring out other team & defend. 4:35 ROUND 11: Mini games 1. Score starts at 18-18, 1st team to 25 points (win by 2) wins and gets a big point. 2. Team with most big points at end of time wins. 3. Begin next game in rotation where they left off. 4. If one team is stronger than other team, you can start at 18-20 or whatever scores that will make it more competitive. Focus: Compete. What can they use from today to win? 5:00pm Session Ends DAY 2 Tournament Schedule will be posted CYCLONE VOLLEYBALL CAMP WEBSITE & ON-SITE 8:30am Gyms will open (Go directly to your site) 9:00 Warm up on assigned gym/court Tie Breaker: 9:10 Pool Play Begins 1.
