1. Introduction Please follow these instructions carefully. Only if the beverage cooler is properly installed will trouble free operation and customer satisfaction be achieved.
General description
The Duette 1 is a low to medium capacity soft drinks cooler carbonator unit. NOTE – the cooler is fully automatic, therefore the electrical supply must not be interrupted (unless access for maintenance is required), other wise reduced performance and reliability will occur. When the supply is reconnected follow the INSTALLATION procedure and RESET the controller (push the recessed button), if the soda system has been drained.
Safety
Read this booklet before undertaking installation or maintenance. Recognize safety alerts - isolate the power supply before removing panels. Danger - Indicates an immediate hazardous situation which, if not avoided; WILL result in serious injury, death, or equipment damage. Warning - Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, COULD result in serious injury, death, or equipment damage. Caution - Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, MAY result in minor or moderate injury or equipment damage. Safety Tips – Learn how to operate the Duette unit and how to use the controls properly. Authorised service person Caution - Only technicians who are competent with carbon dioxide (CO2) gas, electricity and plumbing should service this unit. All wiring and plumbing must conform to national and local codes of practice.
Water bath drain (where fitted) In normal operation of the unit, this must be pushed in. To drain the unit, ensure the ice bank is thawed. Fit a 9.54mm (3/8”) tube into the drain fitting that is long enough to reach a drain or bucket. Pull the fitting outwards by approximately 10mm. Water will drain from the tank.
Upon draining being complete, push the fitting back into the tank and remove the tube by pulling the tube whilst the collet is pressed.
HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION Keep the unit in an upright position and do not drag over rough floors or down steps. On receipt, unpack the unit carefully and visually inspect for any damage which it may have sustained in transit. Record the nature of the damage on the Courier’s Delivery Note and at the same time inform your supplier. Once the unit is in position, do not move when filled with water.
2. Installation procedure Commissioning
Filling the water bath Do not use de-ionized water or add any substance to the water (unless approved by Cornelius). Do not leave hose pipes unattended whilst filling the water bath as the unit may become flooded. Remove the filler cap, plus the front overflow cap (positioned on the front top right of the unit) and fill with cool clean water until the water flows from the overflow. When water starts to flow from the front overflow, stop filling and replace both caps. Python installation The unit may now be switched ON to allow the ice bank to be made. This will take between 2 and 4 hours. The red light on the front of the cooler will flash at a rate of one flash every 4 seconds. This indicates the carbonator system is isolated. DO NOT reset the controller. On systems where the unit is installed onto a current python, a strainer, part number 06 0 240151 is required in the return line to the cooler to prevent debris entering the unit.
Connect the python to the dispense head(s). Connect all carbonated water, still water and product lines in accordance with the labelling on the cooler.
Priming the system WARNING Carbon Dioxide gas is dangerous- CO2! Think of Ventilation Once the dispense system is fully connected proceed as follows: A) Connect the carbon dioxide supply B) Purge the system of air by opening one or more valves on the dispense point for 1 minute. C) Connect the water supply. D) With the unit connected electrically, reset the controller. E) The boost pump will operate many times. F) Once the boost pump has stopped operating, dispense 4 x 335ml drinks to ensure the system is fully primed.
OPERATION The unit can only be reset by disconnecting the mains electrical supply. When the supply is reconnected, i.e. after a power cut, if the red light is flashing, push the reset button The carbonator system, which includes inlet solenoid, water boost pump and soda recirculation pump are all controlled by the liquid level controller. The controller has a light which flashes once every 4 seconds upon connection of power ON to the unit. This allows the refrigeration system to make ice and be controlled by its mechanical ice bank control (thermostat). When the carbonation system is ready for operation, the controller can be reset by pushing the reset button and the system will automatically operate. When the carbonator bowl water level drops below the third level probe the soda pump will switch off and once the level rises past the probe, the soda pump will switch back on. The agitator motor will run upon the mains supply being connected to the unit DIAGNOSTICS Light indication Function On continuously Carbonator pump is on Off Standby, ready to dispense Flash on/off every 4 Carbonator system ready, not operating seconds Flash on/off every 1 Carbonator pump timed out second Flash on/off every 0.5 Controller failure second Internal wiring and plumbing schematics are on the underside of the lid.
Requirements summary Gas connection: 6.35mm plain (1/4”) Pressure: 5 bar (75 PSI) to 6 bar (90 PSI) dependant on the brand dispensed. Water inlet connections: 9.54mm plain (3/8”) Water Pressure: 2 bar (1.8 to 2.2 bar ) flowing, (30 PSI typically) Water Flow rate: 3 litres / minute CAUTION – A boost pump or pressure regulator may be required to achieve the flow and/or pressure. Only non – siphon type cylinders should be used. CO2 cylinders should always be secured vertically with the outlet valves in the uppermost position to prevent injury through ingress of liquid carbon dioxide into the pressure regulators(s). On no account should a connection be attempted to a CO2 cylinders other than a purpose made high pressure assembly, which is date coded in accordance with the British Softs Drinks Association (B.S.D.A.) Code of Practice. Python connections Soda recirculation connections: 9.54mm (3/8”) Still water and syrup connections: 7.94mm (5/16”) All connections are labelled on the cooler. Python insulation Up to 24°C ambient – minimum of 13mm Up to 32°C ambient – minimum of 19mm

It is recommended that the installation is protected by a RCCB. A supply of cold, potable water with an accessible means of isolation. Installation The appliance must be earthed. If not already fitted, fit the appropriate electrical plug to the service cord. With the unit unpacked and in position, remove all coil caps, but do not connect to an electrical supply at this stage
3. Service maintenance instructions Service information (fault/repairs)
There are NO ‘user’ (OPERATOR) serviceable items inside the unit.
Maintenance must only be undertaken by a qualified and trained person.
Refer to separate Manual for the Service Maintenance of this unit.
Only replace the fuse protecting the circuit to the unit with one of an identical type and rating.
Isolate the power supply to the unit during maintenance operations.
Only use Cornelius parts for cooler maintenance. Failure to do so will invalidate cooler approvals and warranty.
The carbonator bowl relief valve ring pull to be operated annually to check its operation.
Double check valve – isolate the water supply and remove the bleed screw once a year to check for water backflow, if the unit is supplied to a UK installation.
Preventative user maintenance For all of the below, once the maintenance is carried out, follow the Installation instructions for re commissioning the unit Switch off and unplug the unit during user maintenance operations. In the event of the unit malfunctions or suffers spillage or physical damage, unplug the unit from its electrical supply. Do not switch the unit ‘off’ and ‘on’ within five minutes. Do not attempt to remove the protective covers. Condenser Ensure grilles and condenser fins remain unobstructed and free from particles at all times to ensure reliable and consistent operation. A soft brush or vacuum cleaner may used for cleaning. Sanitizing Product Coils Under no circumstances should boiling water or steam be used with this unit as it may result in permanent damage. The maximum temperature permissible is 40°C. Sanitize when taste is tainted or periodically as advised by the beverage supplier. Flush with potable water, then chlorinated alkaline solution. It is important that the sanitizing agent manufacturer’s procedure and safety precautions are followed. Rinse through with potable water to remove cleaning solution and test with litmus paper. Water bath Melt the ice bank and drain the tank annually. Follow INSTALLATION PROCEDURE / Commissioning / Filling the tank with water to refill the unit. If the cooler becomes noisy – makes a gurgling sound, this is due to a low water level and will result in reduced cooling capacity. To remedy this follow the instructions for filling the water bath illustrated in INSTALLATION The 1989 Electricity at Work Regulations require periodic testing of electrical equipment and this should only be carried out by a competent person.
