Duplin County Partnership for Children is accepting gently used and new coats and monetary donations to purchase new coats. Most of us have been in a situation at some point when we were cold and did not have on the right clothing to stay warm. It is an uncomfortable, disorienting feeling that leaves you unable to think about much else, other than how cold you are. Unfortunately, for hundreds of people, this can be a constant problem. Sometimes a warm coat is all it takes to ease a burden and warm a heart, especially during the winter months. For more information, please contact Karen Pacheco at Duplin County Partnership for Children at 910-296-2000 ext. 106. Make checks payable to Duplin County Partnership for Children. Donations can be made Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. Coats will be dispersed in December to those in need within Duplin County.
You can make a difference!

My special thanks for the outstanding dedication to excellence exhibited by you, the early care and education professionals of Duplin County. 15 child care centers and 11 family child care homes voluntarily participated in a rigorous training and technical assistance journey, moving toward model fidelity implementation of evidence-based Creative Curriculum and the assessment tool Teaching Strategies GOLD. By Saturday, November 2, most of you will have spent 24 classroom hours (30 hours for some who teach multiple age groups) learning how to successfully implement the curriculum and assessments. You gave up four or six Saturdays, since June 2013, because you want to be the best providers you can be for children. I appreciate what you have done on behalf of the children. It is so exciting to know that you are already implementing what you have learned and your children will be the ultimate reward and measure of your success. What an awesome outstanding group!! With Sincere Appreciation, Joan S. Williams

“A hearty, easy soup that’s ready in 45 minutes. Perfect for using up leftover ham.” Ingredients
3 1/2 cups peeled and diced potatoes
1/3 cup diced celery
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
3/4 cup diced cooked ham
3 1/4 cups water
1/2 tsp. salt or to taste
2 tablespoons of chicken bouillon granules
1 teaspoon of black pepper, or to taste
2 cups of milk
5 tablespoons of butter
5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Directions 1. Combine the potatoes, celery, onion, ham and water in a stockpot. Bring to a boil, then cook over medium heat until potatoes are tender, about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in the chicken bouillon, salt and pepper. 2. In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour with a fork, and cook, stirring constantly until thick, about 1 minute. Slowly stir in milk as not to allow lumps to form until all of the milk has been added. Continue stirring over medium-low heat until thick, 4 to 5 minutes. 3. Stir the milk mixture into the stockpot, and cook soup until heated thoroughly. Serve immediately.

Pinecone Birds
THE LEAVES ON THE TREE This is a fun nature activity that can be enjoyable to sing during the fall season. Tune: “The Wheels On The Bus” The Leaves on the trees are yellow and brown,
Believe it or not, these adorable google-eyed creatures were once ordinary pinecones. Who knew nature could be so much fun?
Yellow and brown, yellow and brown. The leaves on the trees are yellow and brown, All through the town. The leaves on the trees are falling down,
What You’ll Need
Pinecones
Google eyes
All through the town.
Pom-poms (small)

Orange & yellow foam
Crunching sound, crunching sound.
Orange or black chenille stems.

Scissors
Falling down, falling down. The leaves on the trees are falling down,
The leaves on the trees make a crunching sound All through the town. Let’s rake all the leaves into a mound, Into a mound, into a mound. Let’s rake all the leaves into a mound All through the town. The children in the town jump up and down, Up and down, up and down. The children in the town jump up and down On the leaves on the ground. Jean Warren
How To Make It 1. Glue google eyes onto small pom-poms and let them dry. Help your kids fold chenille stems into legs and feet and glue them onto the pinecone. 2. Cut out a triangular beak from orange or yellow foam. Glue on eyes and the beak; let the creature dry completely before beginning a fun game of make-believe with your kids.
