UBI EasyCoder 101 – Installation Instructions PRINTHEAD REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS Step-by-Step Instructions
To replace a worn-out or otherwise defective thermal printhead on an UBI EasyCoder 101 printer, do as follows: ❑
Turn off the power and disconnect the power cord. ❑ Open the right-hand lid and disconnect the cable to the Print button pcb. ❑
Using a #T20 Torx key, remove the two screws (A) holding the Print button assy. (B) and pull it straight out.

Disconnect the printhead cable at the rear of the printhead. ❑ Using a #T10 Torx key, remove the screw (C) that holds the printhead.
Replacement printhead assy.

Turn the printhead lift lever (D) a quarter of a turn clockwise to lift the printhead.
❑
Carefully remove the printhead. Even if a printhead is defective, still be careful not to cause any further damage, since possibly remaining warranty may be jeopardized.

IMPORTANT! Check the resistance value on the replacement printhead. The value is found on a label at the bottom of the printhead, as illustrated to the left. If new printhead's resistance differs from the value of the previous one, the printhead resistance setup must be changed as explained on next page.

Reassemble in reverse order.

If possible, check that the printhead is working and properly aligned by printing a series of test labels, as described in the Technical Description.

Printhead Resistance Setup The method of changing the setup differs between models: ❑ EasyPak 101: Change the setup via the UBI LabelShop program. (Settings → Print adjustment... → Service → Password: 1138 → Type resistance → Set). See the UBI LabelShop Operator's Manual.
Using Setup Files

EasyPak 101 E: Select UBI LabelShop and press the < Setup > key to enter the Setup Mode. See EasyCoder 101 Technical Description.

EasyPak 101 SA and EasyCoder 101 SA: In the UBI Stand-Alone program, enter the Setup Mode. (Set Mode → Setup → Printer). See EasyCoder 101 Technical Description.

EasyCoder 101 and 101 E with UBI Shell: In the UBI Shell program, enter the Setup Mode. See EasyCoder 101 Technical Description.

EasyCoder 101 and 101 E with custom-made application program: Refer to the instructions for the program in question.

EasyCoder 101 with no start-up file: Change the setup by means of a setup file. See “Using Setup Files” below.

EasyCoder 101 E with no start-up file: In the immediate mode of UBI Fingerprint, press the < Setup > key to enter the Setup Mode. See EasyCoder 101 Technical Description.
If you have a working serial communication1 with the immediate mode of UBI Fingerprint, you can always change the setup by means of a setup file, also see UBI Fingerprint Programmer's Manual version 4.xx or later. Example (“nnn” is the 3-digit printhead resistance value): 10 20 30 40

Note: In UBI EasyCoder 101 printer models, the switch banks on the CPUboard are no longer used.
