7825 IMMERSION LAMP Photochemical (Medium Pressure) Medium pressure, quartz, mercury-vapor lamp. For use in all listed immersion wells. 61cm PTFE covered lead wires, fitted with pin type connectors and 6' cord for connecting to power supply, permit lowering lamp into well for vertical operation. Of total energy radiated, approximately 4048% is in the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum, 40-43% in the visible, the balance in the infrared. Can be inserted into a minimum of 25mm I.D. glass opening well/sleeve. For replacement cord, see 9698-10.

7836 PHOTOCHEMICAL SAFETY REACTION CABINET* Steel cabinet that allows safe operation of ACE Photochemical Reaction Equipment. Eliminates need to tie up hood or construct special safe area to operate hazardous UV lamps. Cabinet has welded seams, fully hinged door with lip to prevent light from escaping. Door has key lock for positive closure and controls a safety switch that prevents lamp operation unless door is closed. Floor of cabinet is sealed to 1" height to contain any possible spills. Inside cabinet is a plug-in light, auxiliary 120v socket and 60 CFM exhaust fan all controlled by ON/OFF switch; pin jack socket for lamp connection and removable ½" aluminum rod, mounted vertically, for clamping equipment. Supplied with 6' grounded power cord with NEMA plug for connection to 120v source, 6' two-wire cord with male pin jacks for connection to lamp power supply, handles mounted either side for carrying and rubber feet on bottom. 7837 STAND Photochemical Reactor Sturdy aluminum stand for use with cylindrical reactors such as those listed under 7841 or 7863. Design allows vessel to be operated in a cold bath in the event the reactant material needs cooling. Center hole is 85.5mm diameter. Because the center hole is large enough to accommodate a 1000ml vessel, the 500ml sized fits loosely and you will need to bend the straps inward or use a wedge to hold the 250ml size vertical. 7858 IMMERSION WELL Photochemical, Low Temperature Triple-walled, quartz Immersion Well for use as low as -78°C. With 60/40 inner joint. Outer two walls are permanently sealed together and the space between evacuated. This keeps lamp coolant water from warming the reactant and also prevents coolant water from freezing. Thus lamp emits correct wavelengths and operates at best temperatures for longer life. Innermost wall is held in place via a stopper and permits a carefully positioned PTFE water inlet tube to extend below the lamp bottom. Inner tube is removable and may be interchanged with Vycor and borosilicate glass tubes. One size tube fits both wells. Well is for use only with 7825 Codes -30, -32, -34 and -35 lamps. Outer chamber consists of a 7858-84 drilled neoprene stopper, 7855-740 spacer O-Rings, metal water inlet connecting tube and PTFE tubing. Complete unit consists of Quartz Evacuated Outer Chamber, one each Quartz, Vycor and Borosilicate Glass Inner Tube and Assembly Instructions.

7883 REFLECTOR Photochemical (For Medium Pressure Lamp) Reflector for use with ACE-Hanovia ultraviolet lamp. Reflects 85% of spectral rays. Made of aluminum with 44.5 x 10cm opening. lamp is the same as listed under 7825 except ends are adapted for reflector. Lamp and reflector must be ordered separately. Holes in reflector are drilled to accept 11.4cm lamp and are adjustable for 19.1cm and 30.5cm lamps. (larger lamps available on special order.) 7880 REACTION ASSEMBLY* Photochemical, Microscale Photochemical Reactor as described in Journal of Chemical Education, Vol. 66, No. 1, January 1989, pages 86-88. Unit incorporates all the features found in our larger units but is designed for carrying out reactions on a small scale, volumes of 5-15ml. This size translates to a reduction in the expense of start-up chemicals and minimal risk of exposure to hazardous materials or explosion. Reactor body is fabricated of borosilicate glass with #25 Ace-Thred at top, 14/10 outer side joint externally threaded to allow an “O-Ring-CAP-SEAl” connection with mating inner joint, and porosity E (4-8 micron) filter disc at bottom for use as a gas inlet to remove oxygen from the solution and/or for agitation (mixing). Use with 3∕8" or 7∕16" I.D. Tubing, Size E. See page 5 for more detailed Hose Connection information. Immersion well is either quartz or borosilicate, 11mm I.D., with water jacket. Well can also be used to flow filter solutions in front of lamp to attain desired wavelengths. Well is assembled by insertion into #25 Ace-Thred and securing with an O-Ring compression seal. 7892 PLATFORM REACTOR Photochemical Used by the water chemist for radiating metals in water to obtain metal-free water. Also used to remove unbound chlorine from drinking water, i.e., chlorine demand-free water. This reactor is similar to one published in Nature, london, Vol. 211, pgs. 481-483, 1966; Photochemical Combustion of Organic Matter in Sea Water, for Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Carbon Determination, by Armstrong and Tibbits. This aluminum reactor consists of a top platform with eight 33mm I.D. sample tube holes encircling a 40mm lamp well hole; adjustable height, 0-20.5cm, middle platform with grooves to stabilize sample tubes; and a lower platform holding a fan for blowing air up the side of center lamp well. lamp well is held in a basket pouch attached to the middle platform low enough so that the effective area of the U.V. lamp radiates the very bottom of the sample tubes. 7898 THIN FILM REACTOR Photochemical Reactor of borosilicate glass uses the “Weir Principle” to provide a flow of reactant solution over a knife edge and down the inner wall of the reactor. Controlling the flow rate permits the lamp cooling chamber to remain free from contact with the film, thus eliminating unwanted deposits from forming on the chamber and blocking out desired light. Reactor is normally operated at a rate of 100-300cc/min. for most solvents. However, rates as low as 35cc/min have been attained. Reaction volumes usually are as small as 100ml but can be reduced further by filling dead space around knife edge with glass beads, using capillary lines, eliminating reservoir and pumping from bottom exit directly to inlet. The upper limit depends only on the size of the reservoir. The system can be slightly pressurized to .7Kg/cm2 in order to keep volatiles in solution. 6962 REACTION FLASK Photochemical, Kriel* Tapered wall style reaction vessel for prep-scale photolysis. Tapered sides assure that the effective area of a 450w (code-34) or 550w photochemical lamp can be entirely submersed into the liquid contrary to traditional round bottom reaction flasks. Net result is approximately a 20% savings in reaction time. An additional advantage of this design is in the initial mixing of reactants.
