We congratulate you on the purchase of this SCALA quality product. In order to use all the benefits of this device, you should read through the instruction manual before using it for the first time. Keep it in a safe place for reference at a later date. The SC 53 TM will give you reliable service for many years. Special features: With the SC 53 TM, you can measure your body temperature with a measurement at the temple or in the ear depending on the measuring mode selected. The SC 53 TM is also suitable for measuring surrounding temperatures between 10 °C and 50 °C. When the SC 53 TM is not measuring your body temperature, it shows the time and the surrounding temperature. The device shows you the last measured value before every new measurement. After making a temperature measurement, the device switches over to standby after approx.1 minute to save the battery, and shows the time and surrounding temperature. Please note that the measured values at the temple and in the ear are seldom the same. This is due to the differences in heat emission in the human body. The surface temperature on the temple is always slightly lower than that in the ear. Safety information: ♦ The thermometer contains small parts (batteries etc) which can be swallowed by small children and are therefore highly dangerous. Please keep the batteries and the thermometer out of the reach of small children. If the battery or another part is swallowed, you must seek medical help immediately. ♦ The battery supplied may not be recharged or reactivated by other methods, and may not be taken apart, thrown into fires or short-circuited. The SC 53 TM works on the basis of infrared and "sees" the temperature. The SC 53 TM's "eye" is the sensor. If the sensor is soiled, or the temple covered in sweat or makeup, the thermometer will not be able to deliver the correct measured results. High variations in room temperature (window open) also lead to deviations in temperature measurements. Correct measured results can only occur in rooms at normal temperatures and using persons who have been sitting quietly in this room for at least 10 minutes. Changing the battery: As soon as the “ " symbol flashes in the display, the battery is exhausted and must be replaced. Replace it with a battery of the same type (CR 2032). Open the battery compartment as described in Point 1, "Setting the time". Please ensure the battery is inserted the right way round. You can obtain batteries in watchmaker's or electrical shops. -3- Metrological checks: Checking the measurement accuracy of the SC 53 TM is not normally necessary.
