The central switching matrix uses a controller for control and configuration purposes and an analogue switching element allowing multiple routes to be made simultaneously. Analogue audio, DCC inputs and outputs, are also provided as part of the EASi-COM II system. A range of Control Panels is available providing a suitable user interface for making and receiving calls over the system. These panels feature push buttons configured to operate specific routes or activate control functions. The key actions are sent as digital data using a serial link to the central matrix for interpretation by the controller and information is returned to the control panel by the same method. Audio and data is connected via standard multi-core twisted pair wiring. A call is initiated on a control panel by pressing one of the Direct Access Keys (DAK). This activates crosspoints, located in the Matrix, which make the audio route (or routes) to the desired destination(s). Routing can be one-way (e.g. talk only) or two-way (talk and listen simultaneously) and several callers can speak to the same destination at the same time. Destinations and sources can beltpacks, IFBs, 2-wire or 4-wire circuits, or other panels, individually or grouped. A camera conference facility is also available, configured via the Matrix DIL switches, which allows people to communicate in a conference mode. This is similar in operation to the Conference Ring (Party Line) facilities available in older, more conventional systems. STA0308 - Issue 2.1 11 January 2001 Page 8 of 48 INSTALLATION GUIDE EASi-COM II GETTING STARTED 2 GETTING STARTED 2.1 Unpacking The Equipment All EASi-COM II components are tested prior to dispatch to ensure correct operation. Each system or component should be inspected for damage during transit. Any damage should be reported to Drake Electronics Ltd or their appointed representative. 2.2 Installation 2.2.1 General Information It is necessary to have sufficient space at the front and the rear of the equipment bay holding the matrix to allow easier access during installation. It is also assumed that the correct cables and cable lengths have been determined for the installation of the control panels and externals. It is advisable to have all cable runs completed prior to fitting the system into the equipment bays. The physical and electrical requirements for each part of the system are detailed in this guide. WARNING Risk of electrical shock. All installation operations must be completed before applying mains AC power to the system. Suitably qualified personnel conversant with current electrical safety requirements should perform the installation. The mains safety earth connection to each item of equipment must be maintained at all times during operation of this system. Ensure that the AC supply matches that required by the matrix (the maximum power rating is marked on the front of the matrix). CAUTION: STA0308 - Issue 2.1 Do not obstruct the ventilation grilles or serious overheating of the Matrix may occur. 11 January 2001 Page 9 of 48 INSTALLATION GUIDE EASi-COM II GETTING STARTED 2.2.2 Installing a System The installation should be conducted in the following order: 1) Prepare all cables for the system as described in this Installation Guide. 2) Install the Matrix into a suitable 19” wide rack bay. 3) Install the Control Panels in the correct locations and connect the cables. 4) Insert the tally strips in to the Control Panels. 5) Connect all of the cables to the matrix. 6) Set up the DIL switches on the matrix as described in this Installation Guide. 7) Check that the Matrix AC voltage selector is in the correct position. 8) Check the Earth connection and mains AC supply is installed to current electrical safety requirements. 9) Switch on the power to the Matrix and check that the LED indication is as described in this guide. 10) Check the operation of the Control Panels and other interfaces as required. STA0308 - Issue 2.1 11 January 2001 Page 10 of 48 INSTALLATION GUIDE EASi-COM II MATRIX DESCRIPTION 3 MATRIX DESCRIPTION 3.1 Overview The EASi-COM II matrix comprises a 2RU by 19-inch rack mount unit with all connections made from the rear. The Matrix contains a power supply, capable of powering the Control Panels, connected via a standard IEC. Forced air-cooling is provided within the unit to maintain the unit at the correct operating temperatures. Inadequate or obstructed ventilation may result in serious damage to the system. Switch options are available behind a removable cover to set the Matrix into a number of operating modes. Adjustments are also accessible from the front to change input and output levels in part of the system. 3.1.1 Front View 1 2 3 4 5 9 1 2 3 4 5 6 DC Fuse 1 DC Power LED 1 DC Fuse 2 DC Power LED 2 DC Fuse 3 DC Power LED 3 STA0308 - Issue 2.1 6 7 8 10 11 7 8 9 10 11 Mains AC Fuse Power ON LED Matrix Configuration Switches Control Panel Activity LEDs Port 5 to 14 I/O Level and Balance Controls 11 January 2001 Page 11 of 48 INSTALLATION GUIDE EASi-COM II MATRIX DESCRIPTION 3.1.2 Rear View 1 1 2 3 Port 1 to 16 Connectors DCC Connector Auxiliary Power Connector 2 4 5 6 3 4 5 6 AC Mains Socket AC Mains Voltage Selector Technical 0V and Chassis Earth Connector 3.1.3 Matrix Map The EASi-COM II map is shown overleaf. The Matrix map is fixed but it does have a number of switch options controlled by the DIL switches behind the clear cover on the front panel (see section 3.2.5). Since a Control Panel can be connected to any of the 16 ports, and those Control Panels have 16 keys, it is possible for any crosspoint in the Intercom controlled routing section to be activated. In addition to this, there are a number of hardwired connections available that gives additional wiring options and auxiliary channels that can be utilised.
