Editing with Movie Maker 1. Open Movie Maker software Make sure it’s Movie Maker --not Movie Maker 2.6. 2. Import files, by clicking one of the Add videos & photos buttons. Navigate to the video clip files in your project folder & Click Open. Follow the same procedure for the photos you’d like to use. The video clips and photos appear in the storyboard on the right. 3. SAVE your project often! To save, Click the file button, select Save Project as… Give your project a File Name. The default file type is Movie Maker Project (.wlmp). Navigate to your project folder in your named drive. Make sure you save your project in your project folder. 1 Save your work!!! 4. Arrange video clips and images in the timeline. Move the video clips and photos in to the order you want by manually dragging the thumbnails left/right/up/down. Rotate the video if it is sideways or backwards The Timeline Note that you have the option to change the size of the thumbnails in the timeline. To do this, drag the bar at the bottom of the timeline. 4. Edit the Video Go to Video Tools > Edit. The video-editing features include: Trim Tool Shorten the beginning and end of a video clip. Click on the Trim Tool icon. A new toolbar will appear. Set the Start point and End point by playing the clip to where you want it to start and clicking Start Point. Play the video clip to where you want it to stop and click End Point. Then Click Save Trim. Split Tool Split your video into two or more segments by moving the vertical bar to the specific point/time you'd like the video to be split and clicking the Split icon. This works well if you want to cut out a section of the video clip. 2 Save your work!!! Audio Settings Adjust the volume of each video clip from 0 to full sound. Fade the audio in and out: slow, medium, or fast. Photo Duration To adjust the duration a photo will appear in the movie, select the image, click Edit below Video Tools and set the desired time duration (in seconds). 5. Titles, Captions, and Credits From the Home tab, click a Title, Caption, or Credit icon. A text box will appear. Type in the text, adjust the font and text box, and drag the text box to the desired area in the screen. Adjust length of title, captions, or credits Adjust font style 3 Save your work!!! 6. Animations Animations are transitions from one video clip to another. Add Animations from the Animations tab. Place the cursor on the clip and click the animation you’d like to add. Adjust the length of the animation by setting the duration. Set duration of animation Animation is indicated by a triangle on the bottom left at the beginning of a video clip. 7. Visual Effects Visual effects are special effects that are added to individual video clips. Make your video clip soft, outlined, colorized, pixelated, etc. Visual effect is indicated by a square on the top left at the beginning of a video clip. 4 Save your work!!! 8. Music You can add one additional track of sound to your Movie Maker project. If you’d like to add music, click the add music icon. You can find the music online (some services require you to create an account— even though the music clips are free). Or you can import a track from your iPod to your project file, then click Add Music... and navigate to it. Add Music icon 9. Reviewing & Finishing the Movie Watch the movie. Adjust timing, sound, images, transitions, and effects. When you are finished, click on the words Save your Movie below the icon, and select Recommended for this Project. Then navigate to the folder where you want to save the final project. Save Movie and Recommended Setting selections. The final movie is saved as an .mpeg file and can be viewed from any computer. 5 Save your work!!! Congratulations! You’ve finished your Movie Maker project! 6
