Edmund Optics new lens concepts address the needs of tomorrow TECHSPEC® UC (Ultra-compact) Series Lenses set new price/performance standard and are optimized for machine vision working distances and resolution requirements August, 2016, Karlsruhe, Germany — Edmund Optics® (EO), the premier provider of optical components, is continously expanding its offering to reflect the market needs and recently anounced the availability of its TECHSPEC® UC Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses. Designed to work with all smaller-format camera sensors and built specifically for machine vision working distances and resolution requirements, these cost effective, ultra-compact lenses are ideal for a wide range of applications including factory automation, inspection and biomedical instrumentation. “Despite being offered at an extremely attractive price point and having a very small form factor, our new UC Series lenses deliver the same high-resolution performance and unparalleled quality that you come to expect from every Edmund Optics fixed focal length lens,”says Dr. Boris Lange, Imaging Solutions Engineer at Edmund Optics Europe. Designed for pixels that are ≤2.2μm, TECHSPEC® UC Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses provide high levels of resolution (>200 lp/mm) across the sensor. These RoHS-compliant lenses are available in five focal lengths from 4 mm to 25 mm. Although the lenses are optimized for 1/2.5" sensors, a number of focal lengths support sensors up to 1/1.8". TECHSPEC® UC Series lenses are compatible with all standard Cmount cameras to facilitate integration, and feature locking iris and focus adjustment with recessed set screws to prevent unintentional lens adjustments.

TECHSPEC® Cx Series – Compact & Flexible Fixed Focal Length Lenses enable maximized performance while reducing cost and time to market In addition the market has shown a continuing increase in camera resolution over recent years, thus the overall performance of imaging systems is more and more limited by the optics instead of the sensors. On top of this, the general demand for reduced time to market for end customer products and systems requires significantly reduced development times for optical designs. The current range of off-the-shelf optical products does not allow for the flexibility needed to fulfill specific customer needs. However, the time that it takes to create and produce a good custom optical design that fulfills today´s expectations in terms of quality and reliability can take up to a few months. With this in mind, Edmund Optics is about to launch a range of new products that allow customers to quickly develop and prototype new imaging systems by being able to adapt lenses to their specific needs. The new TECHSPEC® Cx Series Fixed Focal Length Lens Series, designed with versatility and simplicity to easily meet any application need, is a new range of compact, light-weight lenses comprised of sub-series for all sensor sizes with several focal lengths and performance levels. A modular 3-piece design gives the flexibility to integrate precision fixed apertures, internal filter holders, and liquid lenses into the assembly with ease. These lenses feature a simplified focus mechanism with easy to use lock nut and recessed set screws to lock focus position into place. Thus the Cx Series lenses are ideal for applications such as Research and Development. Overall this lens series extends the usable range of off-the-shelf products significantly, by providing the possibility to add in electronics such as liquid lenses and powered irises, or integrate filter technology to increase performance while reducing cost at the same time.
