Basic safety precautions should always be observed when using an electrical appliance to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock or serious injury. The term aerobike throughout this manual refers to your electrical power assisted bicycle. It is the responsibility of the owner to familiarise and follow all relevant laws, regulations and local requirements when using your aerobike, this is inclusive of fitting any additional equipment necessary to comply with local laws. This aerobike is designed for use as a commuter and leisure bike; it is not suitable for commercial purposes or off-road. Using the aerobike for any other purpose may result in serious injury. Only ride on roads or dedicated cycle ways. Before riding your aerobike in busy areas or public places, familiarise yourself fully with the bike, practise riding in a safe hazard free area, taking the time to understand the aerobikes controls and power. Always adopt a speed that reflects the terrain as well as your riding ability. Always observe applicable traffic regulations. Use designated cycle paths when not using public roads. At night you must have white front and red rear lights lit. It must also be fitted with a rear red reflector and amber pedal reflectors. Do not ride your aerobike without wearing a bicycle helmet that conforms to current regulations. Always wear close fitting trousers while riding your aerobike or wear a bicycle clip. Loose clothing may get caught in moving parts and cause serious injury. Wear bright and/or reflective clothing while riding your aerobike. The saddle of your aerobike should be positioned as close as possible to horizontal. Do not tilt the saddle backwards as this can lead to back pain and physical injury. Take care when loading your aerobike into a car or when mounting it on a bicycle carrier. We do not recommend the use of a bicycle trailer with your aerobike. Never ride the aerobike with no hands. A standard fitment luggage carrier and child seat may be safely fitted to the aerobike, consult your local bike shop for guidance and fitting. Only use batteries and chargers supplied by aerobike. After Sales Support 0871 911 7003 [email protected] After Sales Support 0871 911 7003 [email protected] User Guide User Guide 6 Never modify the charger in any way. The charger has been designed for a specific voltage, always check that the mains voltage is the same as the as that stated on the rating label. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may cause another battery pack to catch fire. Never use the charger with another battery or attempt to charge the battery with a different charger. Before using the charger always check the cords for signs of damage or ageing. A damaged or entangled charger cord creases the risk of fire and electric shock. Do not abuse the charger cord: never carry the charger by the cord. Do not wrap the cord around the charger while storing. Do not pull the cord to disconnect the plug from the socket, always grasp and pull the plug directly. 7 When disposing of the aerobike, remove the battery and dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Shorting the battery terminals may cause burns or fire. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns. Leaks from the battery cells may occur under extreme conditions. Do not touch any liquid that leaks from the battery. If the liquid gets on the skin, wash immediately with hot soapy water. If the liquid comes into contact with the eye, flush immediately with clean water for a minimum of 10 minutes and seek medical attention. Wears gloves to handle the battery and dispose of immediately in accordance with local regulations. Regularly check your brakes for signs of wear and tear; any worn parts must be replaced immediately. Ensure that the brake pads and breaking surfaces are free from wax, grease and oil. Keep the charger cord away from hot surfaces and sharp edges. Do not peddle and brake at the same time as this will cause excessive wear to the brakes Do not touch the charger with wet hands. Be careful while getting used to the brakes, practise emergency stops in a place free from traffic and debris until you are confident in controlling your aerobike. Do not store or charge the battery outdoors. The charger must be removed from the socket before removing the battery from the charger. Wet weather reduces your braking power and the grip of your brakes, reduce speed and be aware of longer stopping distances needed in wet conditions. You must be over 14 to ride an aerobike. Braking on unpaved surfaces will differ to braking on roads etc. Practise in traffic and debris free areas until you are confident in controlling your aerobike. The drive assist system is limited to a maximum continuous power rating of 0,25kW (250W) and a maximum speed of 25 km/h, (15.5mph). Regularly check the tyre pressure (minimum 50psi, maximum 75psi) also regularly check the tread depths of tyres. The aerobike is designed for a maximum permitted overall weight (rider, luggage and bike) of 126kg. Ensure that the battery is removed before carrying out any maintenance on the bike. The maximum weight of the rider should not exceed 85kg; the maximum weight of any luggage should not exceed 25kg. Make sure that all screws and bolts are tightened to the correct torques before riding. Never submerge your aerobike in water. Many parts of the aerobike are subject to a higher degree of wear due to their function and depending on their use, have your aerobike checked regularly by your local bicycle shop and any have worn parts replaced. Be aware of the speed at which you are travelling as this may be faster than you are used too, especially when you are accelerating. Any form of crack, scratch or change of colouring in highly stressed areas indicated that the life expectancy of the part has been reached and must be replaced immediately. The aerobike includes Li-Ion batteries: do not incinerate batteries or expose to high temperatures, as this may cause them to explode. After an accident or crash it is essential that you take your aerobike to your local bicycle repair specialist to make sure that it is safe to ride, be aware that the damage may not be visible, failure to do so may result in serious injury. Do not place battery on metallic or wet surfaces. The aerobike is like a normal bike but with electric pedal assistance. The amount of assistance the aerobike gives you will depend on how fast you are pedalling. Always use the battery in accordance with these instructions. General maintenance (Also see Bike Maintenance Schedule Chart on page 35) • Check the pressure and profile of both tyres. • Check the brakes for wear and adjust or replace them as necessary. • Check the wheels for buckles or damage and have them repaired immediately by your local bicycle shop. • Periodically check that the handlebars are secure and do not move out of alignment with the front wheel. If they do, align and tighten them correctly following the instructions on page 9. • Check the wheel rims for wear. The wear indicator are black lines that run around the wheel rim. If the wear indicator lines become invisible, the rim should be replaced. Wheel rims should regularly cleaned to prevent grit and dirt build up. Excessive wear may result in failure and serious injury. • Lubricate the chain at least once a month to keep it running smoothly. Ensure each link of the chain is lubricated and briefly work the lubricant into the chain by turning the pedals. Then wipe off any excess using a paper towel or an old cloth. General 3-in-1 oil is suitable, but there are also a number of bike specific lubricants on the market. The chain should also be cleaned as often as possible (see Cleaning section below). Be careful to not lubricate the brake pads or wheel rims. • Always use genuine replacement parts. • Periodically check the frame and forks for any damage caused by intensive use or impacts. Any kind of structural damage could cause weakness to the frame. If you are ever unsure, please consult your local bike shop. Cleaning Clean your bike by removing dirt with a soft bristled brush and then washing in warm water. Regularly cleaning your bike will lengthen the lifespan of your aerobike. Be careful not to use too much water near the battery area. After cleaning your bike dry thoroughly with a soft clean cloth. Clean the chain using bike specific degreaser being careful not to get any on any other component of the frame. Ensure to re-lubricate the chain after cleaning. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when using degreaser and lubricants. The brakes should be adjusted, so that when the brake arms are pulled to the halfway travel position, the whole of the brake pads’ surface rests against the wheel rim. Using a hex key, loosen the brake adjuster screw until you can move the brake cable. If you need to loosen the brake cable, push the brake cable through a little, if you need to tighten the brake cable pull the brake cable through a little. Make sure that the brake cable is not too loose and securely re-tighten the brake adjuster screw. Be careful not to overtighten as this could fray the cable. If there is now excess brake cable sticking out, you will need to tuck this behind the brake arm. Hook the excess into the slot located on the rear of the brake arm, so that it is secure.
