ELECTRONIC CALL HOUSE PHONE SYSTEM TECHNICAL MANUAL MT 101-002C MT101-002C 1 ELECTRONIC CALL HOUSE PHONE SYSTEM HOUSE PHONE MOD. 1131 The new range of house phones Mod. 1131 has connections with the NEW ELECTRONIC CALL SYSTEM. The main features are the following: − electronic call on the loudspeaker, not on the buzzer. The handset loudspeaker is used both as phonic transducer or call generator; − electret microphone (not carbon type); − separated door opener key (not hook lever door opener). Important: further to the above mentioned features, the house phones Mod. 1131 cannot be used with the previous system Mod. 1130, 1030, 930, 730 and 630. The house phones Mod. 1131 are supplied in white colour, with a twisted cord; they can be used both as wall or table models; for the table model the corresponding socket with cord should be ordered. The materials used, skill in design, accuracy of construction and operational reliability, prove once more the high standard of quality of URMET DOMUS range of house phone systems. The house phones Mod. 1131 are available in two basic types: 101 37 Ref.1131/8 Add-on unit with 8 keys for intercoms systems 105 65 TECHNICAL FEATURES The main technical features of the house phone Mod. 1131 are: − finishing of the plastic (in ABS): smooth for handset and cover; satin for the base, mouthpiece, earpiece and keys; − one colour combination: white for the handset, the cover, the base and the keys; − white twisted cord with rubber sleeve on the handset; − the base and cover are snap-fitted with no need for fastening screws; − wall mounting on elastic tabs; − the handset is hooked to the cover by means of: two hooks at the top; a lower housing to prevent it from being unhooked accidentally; − two-piece handset assembled without fastening screws, equipped with an electret microphone transmitter and a loudspeaker receiver; − the call is carried out by sending an electronic call sound to the handset loudspeaker; − the system connection terminal board is directly inserted on a printed circuit on which there are the electronic components, concerning the microphone circuit, and the two-exchange cell for the phonic circuit; − the door lock release is actuated by pushing the proper separated key. 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 Internal connection diagram of the electronic call house phone 218 77 218 77 218 URMET DOMUS house phone Mod. 1131 has the prestigious styling of Giugiaro design and URMET’s project to combine reliable operation and distinctive look. An index is provided on the cover to indicate the services or names. An add-on unit for intercom service is supplied for the versions with more than 4 keys to be placed on the basic house phone. This unit is always provided with 8 keys with a plate to couple it rigidly to the base of the house phone. 218 HOUSE PHONE MOD. 1131 House phone with 1 key plus add-on There are also two special versions of house phone Mod. 1131: − house phone with switch and 2 keys; − house phone with 2 leds, 1 switch and 1 key. Ref. 1131 Standard House phone without keys INSTRUCTIONS TO USERS Do not open or tamper with the house phones. The set operates at very low security voltage (below 24 V ac; 50 V dc). It can also be fitted inside the Mod. 725 push button panel using the specific Ref. 725/703 adapter. 93 INT EXT 14 23 26 1A − + 1 2 Loudspeaking units Ref.825/220 make it possible to improve voice level compared with loudspeaking unit Ref. 824/500. They make it possible to obtain a higher voice level which means they can be used in particularly noisy and disturbed environments. The higher level of amplification is made possible by the fact that, as the loudspeaking unit circuit is an integral part of the Kombi module, it has been possible to improve acoustic coupling of the transducers. The Ref.825/220 loudspeaking units do not have call keys but are equipped with a stair light key only. In the case of faults, the entire module must be replaced. CONNECTIONS In all loudspeaking units, use the terminals identified as +, -, 1, 1A, 2 for connection and follow the instructions of the various installation diagrams. When connecting the loudspeaking unit in installations with the electronic call system (Mod. 1131 and 1132 house phone), use terminal 1A. Terminal 1 is not used. If the loudspeaking units are used in installations with conventional call system house phones with Buzzer, connect terminal 1 instead of terminal 1A.To switch on the push button panel lights, the voltage must never be tapped from the (-) terminal of the loudspeaking unit but directly from the power supply in order to avoid disturbances (buzzing) during the call. AMPLIFICATION ADJUSTMENT All loudspeaking units use two separate integrated circuits for amplification towards the outside and towards the inside and an electret microphone as transmitter unit. Amplification in the two directions is adjustable using two trimmers accessible from the outside. As transmission levels are factory set to optimum values, it is advisable to modify these only if absolutely necessary (for example: elimination of “whining” or Larsen effect). In these cases, to avoid downgrading of acoustic equilibrium, it is advisable to use the trimmer that adjusts volume towards the outside. To adjust external volume: TECHNICAL DATA − use the trimmer identified with EXT turning this in a clockwise direction to increase volume or in a anti-clockwise direction to reduce this. To adjust internal volume: − use the trimmer identified with INT turning this in a clockwise direction to increase volume or in a anti-clockwise direction to reduce this. Any other use must be considered inappropriate and, then, dangerous. The constructor can not be considered liable for casual damages due to inappropriate wrong and irrational use. The installation should be complied with existing IEC rules: − all the system sets must be used only for that they have been devised; − after unpacking, verify any possible damage; − the packing (i.e. plastic bag, foam polystyrene, etc.) must be kept away from children because it is potentially dangerous; − before connecting the set install an appropriate separation and protection switch; − before connecting the set verify that the data label correspond to the mains ones; − do not obstruct the openings or fissure for ventilation or heat elimination; − before any cleaning or maintenance operation, disconnect the set by means of the system switch; − in case of failure and/or malfunctioning of the set, disconnect it by means of the general switch and do not damage it. To repair the set contact Urmet after-sale services. If the above mentioned prescription are not followed, the set safety can be compromised. The installer must verify that the notices for users are present on the slave sets. INSTRUCTION FOR GROUNDING OR NOT OF THE ELECTRONIC LOCKS AND PUSH BUTTON PANELS According the IEC 64-8/4 Rule Point 411-1.2.4, the electronic device for which measures have been adopted to guarantee that in case of internal failure, the output terminal voltage cannot exceed the indicated values (50 V a.c. and, 120 V d.c. not inverted) are source SELV type (ex BTS). It is the case of the URMET DOMUS house phone power supplies for bar mounting that have a double insulation and that is belonging to class II (identified by the double square symbol) and that are conforming to IEC 12/13 Rules. The active parts of the powered circuits (electric locks and push button panels) absolutely have not to be grounded (point 411.1.4.1). Only for information, the power supplies that do not belong to class II but to class I and, therefore, have not a double or intensified insulation, belong to FELV class (ex BTF). In this case both the power supplies and the active parts of the feeded circuits have to be grounded. 18 POWER SUPPLY AND TRANSFORMER CONFORMITY WITH IEC RULES POWER SUPPLIES URMET DOMUS house phone power supplies for bar mounting, are designed and made in conformity with IEC EN 60065:1994 (EN 60065: 1993) Rule and thus conforming to EEC rules 73/23 and 93/68 (low voltage) concerning the electronic set Field connected to mains for home and general use. The embedding box must be walled on the level with the wall surface and must not protrude (max. final embedding allowed is 8 mm). Before walling the embedding box (single or coupled with others) a hole should be opened for passing the connection wires through. The springs are used for pushing the frame against the front plate, so as to keep constant the distance between the buttons of the front plate and the ones of the frame. Insert the frame on to the 4 springs during connection phase and then fix the loudspeaking unit to the frame. At the end, tighten the front plate to the frame by means of the supplied screws. ASSEMBLY OF EMBEDDING BOXES max 8 mm. The embedding boxes are joined together using special spacers that also serve as wire conduit. Boxes with one or two rows of button can be joined. All the spacers are empty inside to permit feeding of the wires from one box to another. The wall surface, on which the front plate is leant, must be flat. The max. tolerance is 1.5 mm. 1,5 m Before walling the embedding box, it is suggested to remove the button/lamp holder frame. To release the frame from the 4 support screws placed in the mebedding box, insert the tip of a screwdriver into the hole A of the lower headstock and then turn 90°. 1,5 m During the walling phase, apply the proper adhesive stamps on the holes for the frame fixing,to protect them from the lime. Before walling the embedding box, a hole (at the bottom or at the sides of the lower section) should be opened for passing the connection wires through. Once the embedding box has been fixed to the lower section of the module frame, take off the upper headstock and insert the required modules in the frame (the keys must all be positioned on the right-hand side). The embedding box must be walled on the level with the wall surface and must not protrude. If the box is embedded too deeply, loosen the two screws (on the lower side of the box) in the special holes until the screw head is flush with the wall; this is to prevent subsequent distortion of the lower head stock of the module frame during the screwing of the same on the embedding box. 40 In the versions with 3 and 4 unit module frames, during assembly insert stiffener A between one module and the next; the stiffener is provided with the embedding boxes (2 for the 3-module version, 3 for the 4-module version). MT101-002C KOMBI MODULAR PUSH BUTTON PANEL MOD. 825 WALL EMBEDDING VERSION - ACCESSORY INSTALLATION EMBEDDING FRAME - HOOD COVER Close the front plate and fix the upper headstock to the box (the fastening screw is freed by lifting the special slider). WALL EMBEDDING FRAME Once the embedding box has been walled, position the wall embedding frame and lock it by fastening the lower headstock of the module frame. The frame is then fixed completely by fastening the upper headstock of the module frame HOOD COVER WALL EMBEDDING VERSION Once the embedding box has been walled, position the hood cover and lock it by fastening the lower headstock of the module frame. To avoid buckling and to compensate the difference in the lower support level of the hood cover, fasten in the embedding box lower side the proper two screws up to locate the headstock about 2 mm out of the wall. The hood cover is then fixed completely by fastening the upper headstock of the module frame to the embedding box. The name tag can be inserted from the outside; take off the outer plate by pressing the right-hand side and pushing outwards. This operation releases the plexiglass plate (57 x 15.5 x 1.2 mm ) and the mylar card (0.1 mm thick). The plexiglass plate will be used for the definitive inscription of the corresponding name, while the mylar card can be used for an immediate temporary inscription. Do the contrary to reset the name tag and the outer plate. Boxes for two or three modules can be joined together. If accessories are to be fitted, such as embedding frame, hood cover, surface mounted housing with hood cover, the maximum number of boxes that can be joined horizontally is three. If accessories are not used for embedded version, an unlimited number of embedding boxes can be used, to be joined together, both horizontally and vertically, by means of special wire conduit spacers. Said spacers are empty internally, to allow wire passage from a box to another one. The housing is provided complete with embedding frame and module frame. Fix the housing to the wall using three screws and corresponding plugs. Horizontal assembly Open the hole in the lower area of the housing for passing the cables through. Fasten the lower headstock of the module frame, pinching the frame between the housing and headstock. Take off the upper headstock and insert the needed modules in the frame. Close the plate and fix the upper headstock to the cover; the fastening screw is freed by lifting the special slider. Vertical assembly In the versions with 3 and 4 unit module frames, during assembly insert stiffener A between one module and the next; the stiffener is provided with the embedding boxes (2 for the 3-module version, 3 for the 4-module version). Back boxes are joined by means of spacer grommets which ensure correct alignment and spacing. Back boxes and frames of differing heights cannot be combined horizontally. For example, as with the Kombi entrance panel, two different heights will result if a 3-module back box is joined to a 2-module back box with a 1-module back box above it. Flush-mounting back boxes are hinged so that the bottom of the module housing can be swung downwards during installation. System wiring can be routed into the back box through the spacer grommets (two per side) or through the apertures provided in the bottom of the box. All apertures are punch-out type. 256 Stainless steel module housings 138 Ref.1155/63 CAPABILITIES The device is used to provide secrecy of conversation in electric outdoor station systems only. In the case of house phone systems, a device must be used for each push button panel, combined with house phones 1131 or 1132 equipped with secrecy of conversation device Ref. 1131/5. On video house phone systems, a device must be used for each push button panel, combined with Ref. 1202/95 (Winflat) and Ref. 1024/95 (Scout) video brackets with secrecy of conversation. FUNCTIONING All the appliances are usually disabled for conversation (no conversation can be held with the outside on lifting the hand-set): the conversation can be started only by the appliance called from the push button panel. The device allows electric lock release in two different ways: Free: the lock is released each time the door opener key (usually A) is pressed. With secrecy: the lock can be activated only following a call. 376 − For 3 modules 55 1, 2 and 3 module versions. All 2 and 3-module housings are provided with partitions that must be removed in cases where double modules are used. Single and double modules are secured to the housing by means of threaded fasteners. During installation, the housing is attached to the hinge on the lower side of the flush-mounting back box. This permits the housing to be swung downwards (as is done with the Kombi entrance panel) to facilitate electrical connections. Once electrical connections have been made, the housing is swung upwards and subsequently retained to the back box by means of threaded fasteners. Squareness errors of ±2° and errors in recess depth up to 6 mm made when installing back box can be corrected at this point. SECRECY OF CONVERSATION FOR 4+N SYSTEMS Ref. 1155/75 138 55 All versions include spacer grommets and junction plates for assembly with other back boxes. 46 MT101-002C MODEL 1155 K-STEEL ARMORED ENTRANCE PANEL EXAMPLE OF INTEGRATED LOUDSPEAKING MODULE COUPLING FOR THE VARIOUS CAPACITIES 1 2 4 5 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 20 21 22 25 MT101-002C 3 11 26 6 12 7 13 8 9 14 18 19 23 27 10 24 28 47 MODEL 1155 K-STEEL ARMORED ENTRANCE PANEL EXAMPLE OF INTEGRATED LOUDSPEAKING MODULE COUPLING FOR THE VARIOUS CAPACITIES 24 48 25 26 28 29 30 29 30 31 32 33 34 37 40 42 44 46 MT101-002C MODEL 1155 K-STEEL ARMORED ENTRANCE PANEL EXAMPLE OF INTEGRATED LOUDSPEAKING MODULE COUPLING FOR THE VARIOUS CAPACITIES 4 + n WIRE SYSTEMS No. of buttons Module frames with emb.boxes Module for loudsp. WIRE MINIMUM SECTION The minimum sections are the ones indicated in the table 52E of IEC 64-8/5 Rules. In particular for the unipolar wires used for circuits with 220 V voltage, the minimum section is 1.5 mm2; for the additional circuits, between which there are the house phone circuits, the minimum section is of 0.5 mm2. WIRE LAYING The wire laying of systems with different voltages is possible not only in separated conduits but also in the same conduit. In this case all the wires have an insulation suitable to the highest rated voltage. Wires of systems incompatible each others as power and telephones TV antenna, data transmission, must have different conduits and boxes. By using external conduits it is possible to fail to observe this rule, on the condition that he incompatible systems are separated by means of a diaphragm. The internal diameter of the conduits has to be at least 1.3 times the diameter of the circle circumscribed to the wire group that the conduits have to include, with a minimum of 10 mm. Never use telephone cables; false calls may occur in installations with long lines due to problems of cross-talk. FROM 9 OF THE HOUSE-PHONES ELECTRIC LOCK 400 700 1000 For the door release circuit, it is advisable to activate the electric lock using an auxiliary relay. 58 II LOCK If, during a conversation a background noise or a rather strong buzzing are heard, it is necessary to check the power supply and the absence of failures in the following components: Zener diode, transistor, capacitors and rectifying diodes. One of the causes for the irregular functioning of the system is the 12V a.c. voltage pick up (for push button panel lamps lighting) from the (-) terminal of the loudspeaking unit, rather than from the power supply output. In fact, by this mistake, when lamps light up there is a voltage drop in the common wire between power supply and outdoor station that gives on its turn - the above mentioned background noises during the conversation. Another cause of buzzing depends by long lines systems. The wire 9, that closes on the terminal -12 through the electric lock coil, induce the alternated current in the column To verify disconnect a wire from electric lock, if the buzzing disappears the cause is located. To eliminate it control the lock by means of a auxiliary relay connected as per following scheme: RELAY Ref. 788/21 ~ 12V 40W TRANSFORMER SECRECY OF CONVERSATION In the normal house phone systems there is not the secrecy of conversation since all the house phones are connected in parallel on the same conversation circuit. The secrecy of conversation can be obtained in outdoor station systems by inserting the proper secrecy devices into each house phone. INTERCOMS One of the most common connection mistakes in an intercom system causes the following defect: during test operations the handset gives a background noise and no conversation can take place. This is due to a wrong connection on the power supply negative terminal. The power supplies have two negative outputs: (-) and (-J); the latter has a series impedance. If, during the installation, a connection is made on the first output instead of on the second (-J), the system will not work since the impedance function is missing. lock release HOUSE PHONE POWER SUPPLY RADIO FREQUENCY PICKING Some times a radio broadcast program can be heard in the house phone handset; this happens when the outdoor station is next to the radio repeater station. By connecting, between terminals (+) and 2 of the loudspeaking unit a 100,000pF capacitor, the inconvenience will be overcome. MT101-002C ELECTRONIC CALL HOUSE PHONE SYSTEM INSTALLATION INFORMATION - VARIOUS CONSIDERATIONS SYSTEM CHECK AND POSSIBLE FAILURES OUTDOOR STATION SYSTEM CONTROL In order to determine if an installation is in proper working conditions, the following controls have to be carried out on the loudspeaking unit: 1) Check that voltage between (+) and (-) terminals is of 6V. If voltage is normal, there should not be: a) any badly connected house phone; b) any house phone with permanently unhooked handset; In fact, if even one only house phone is not properly connected or has one of said disadjustements, the whole system is negatively affected. To make sure that all house phones are properly connected, it is necessary to measure if between (+) and 1A and 2 terminals voltage is present. Under normal conditions, there should be no voltage. If, on the contrary, voltage is present both on 1A and 2 terminals, it means that in one or more house phones both the microphone and the receiver are permanently inserted. If voltage is found on terminals 1A only or on terminals 2 only, it means that in one or more house phones either the microphone or the receiver are always inserted. 2) Disconnect (+). 1A and 2 terminals wires from the loudspeaking unit and measure with the ohmmeter between wires 1A and 2: − if the result is infinite the system is in order; − if there is a resistance of about 100 Ohms, some house phone is always connected; − if the result is 0 Ohms, wire 1A and 2 are in short circuit. To verify the efficiency of the loudspeaking unit, wires 1A and 2 coming from the installation, must be disconnected and a provisional connection must be made on a perfectly working house phone; if the conversation is audible, the fault will have to be found somewhere else. To locate faults it is necessary to proceed upwards on the cable conduit. WHISTLE OR LARSEN EFFECT Should the system present a “whistle” due to Larsen effect, duly adjust the two volume potentiometers of the loudspeaking unit reducing the higher yield channel. A better result is obtained by acting on the internal volume. NON-OPERATION OF THE CALL TO THE LOUDSPEAKER Check the power supply generates the call sound, by inserting a 45 Ohms loudspeaker between terminals PS and ~O of the power supply. In this case it is necessary to verify that power supply voltage is not lower than 5,7V d.c.. If feeding is normal, the insufficient reception is caused, in most cases, by a house phone that remains permanently inserted since, if the handset is unhooked, the hook contacts do not disconnect it from the system and therefore the house phones operate as if they were connected in parallel. 2) Insufficient reception at outdoor station only. If this occurs only when the outdoor station is in connection with a certain house phone, the defect can be easily eliminated by acting on the house phone. If, on the contrary, the reception is weak, independently from the house phone connected to the loudspeaking unit, the defect is to be found in the loudspeaking unit itself; therefore it will be necessary to first check that there have been no wire inversions in the connection to terminals 1 and 2 or inversions of (+) and (-) polarities.
