HP StorageWorks Enterprise Modular Library (EML) E-Series Tape Libraries Data sheet Scalable storage for today and tomorrow The HP StorageWorks Enterprise Modular Library (EML) E-Series Tape Libraries provide robust data protection and investment protection in heterogeneous Storage Area Networks (SAN) environments. The EML delivers superior data availability with protection against SAN event disruptions using the built in HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Extended Architecture (ETLA). ETLA intercepts rogue I/O requests from applications or new servers and prevent those requests from interrupting backup or recovery processes. HP EML E-Series Tape Libraries flexibly scale to 202 TB native capacity or 4.6 TB/hr performance from rack-ready or factory racked configurations. Also, easily manage the EML remotely while simplifying complex environments with logical library partitioning. The EML is ideally suited as a companion for the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family. The EML Tape Libraries are fully integrated into the HP StorageWorks portfolio through interoperability and compatible capacity points. The EML tape library is extensively tested in the Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS) to ensure that it works in the most rigorous environment. Documentation is provided to enable you to configure, design and implement the best data protection solution for your environment. Entry configurations start at 71-slots. Maximize capacity with 505-slots or maximize performance with 16-drives. The EML E-Series delivers value through high reliability data protection, agility through modular scalability and simplicity through ease of management. With the performance you crave, the reliability you require and the simplicity you desire, EML Tape Libraries can meet the needs of today—and demands of tomorrow Key features and benefits • Superior SAN data availability: The EML delivers superior data availability with protection against SAN event disruptions using the HP Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA). ETLA intercepts rogue I/O requests from applications or new servers and prevent those requests from interrupting backup or recovery processes. • Heterogeneous SAN interoperability: The EML ensures heterogeneous SAN interoperability and solution support. Certified through the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS), the EML is compatible with leading backup software packages, operating systems, servers, and disk arrays. • Highly dependable HP Ultrium LTO tape drives: The EML uses highly dependable HP Ultrium LTO tape drives designed for 24x7 operations. Data-rate-matching allows HP tape drives to throttle speed to match the server performance reducing stress and wear on media. • Expansion to 202 TB: The EML delivers flexible modular scalability from 71 to 505-slots for consolidating environments needing as much as 202 TB native capacity. The number of drives and slots may be increased by the purchase of expansion modules bringing the library to 8 drives and 505 slots for maximum capacity. • Scale performance beyond 4.6 TB/hr native throughput: The EML has the ability to grow native throughput performance beyond 4.6 TB/hr. The number of drives and slots may be increased by the purchase of expansion modules bringing the library to 16 drives and 442 slots for maximum performance. • Flexible racking alternatives: The EML provides flexible racking alternatives. Choose between rack-ready configurations that can be installed at the customer site or HP factory-racked configurations that minimize installation time. • Remote management: The EML provides easy to use remote management, diagnostics and configuration capabilities. Utilizing HP StorageWorks Command View for Tape Libraries Software for EML or the command line interface, you can access the EML from across the room or across the globe. • Library partitioning: Simplify managing complex environments with library partitioning. HP StorageWorks Secure Manager Tape Library Software for EML, allows the user to logically divide the library into smaller libraries. This function is especially useful when multiple SANs or backup software packages are present. • Protection for HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family: The EML provides ideal data protection for HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) family delivering alignment in capacity, footprint and interoperability. Install an EML in the rack with an EVA or side by side in separate racks for maximum scaling flexibility. • 4Gb Interface Controller support: The HP e-2400-FC 4Gb Interface Controller now offers higher performance for Ultrium 960-FC Tape Drives in the EML library. The 2Gb Interface Controllers are available as well. 2 Technical specifications HP StorageWorks EML 103e Tape Library HP StorageWorks EML 442e Tape Library HP StorageWorks EML 505e Tape Library Unit dimensions (H x W x D) 89.96 x 39.691 x 24 in (228.5 x 100.82 x 60.96 cm) 89.96 x 39.691 x 24 in (228.5 x 100.82 x 60.96 cm) 89.96 x 39.691 x 24 in (228.5 x 100.82 x 60.96 cm) Shipping dimensions (H x W x D) 95.47 x 48 x 32 in (242.49 x 121.92 x 81.28 cm) 95.47 x 48 x 32 in (242.49 x 121.92 x 81.28 cm) 95.47 x 48 x 32 in (242.49 x 121.92 x 81.28 cm) Unit weight (out of box) 433 lbs (196.4 kg) 729 lbs (330.7 kg) 644 lbs (292.1 kg) Number of drive bays 4 16 8 Number of drives included 0 0 0 Maximum scaled configuration 4 drives 103 slots 16 drives 442 slots 8 drives 505 slots Single unit maximum native backup performance (TB/hr) 0.5 (Ultrium 460 FC) 1.2 (Ultrium 960 FC) 1.8 (Ultrium 460 FC) 4.6 (Ultrium 960 FC) 0.9 (Ultrium 460 FC) 2.3 (Ultrium 960 FC) Number of slots 103 slots 98 data slots 5-slot load port (one 5-slot magazine) 442 slots 407 data slots 35-slot load port (seven 5-slot magazines) 505 slots 470 data slots 35-slot load port (seven 5-slot magazines) Single unit native backup capacity (TB) 20.6 (Ultrium 460) 41.2 (Ultrium 960) 88.4 (Ultrium 460) 176.8 (Ultrium 960) 101 (Ultrium 460) 202 (Ultrium 960) Robotics reliability (mean swap between failure (MSBF)) 2 million 2 million 2 million Host interface 4Gb/2 Gb/1 Gb Multi-mode optical Fibre Channel, LC connector 4Gb/2 Gb/1 Gb Multi-mode optical Fibre Channel, LC connector 4Gb/2 Gb/1 Gb Multi-mode optical Fibre Channel, LC connector Management interface 10/100 Ethernet 10/100 Ethernet 10/100 Ethernet Control panel Touch screen GUI Touch screen GUI Touch screen GUI Power requirements 250 Watts 250 Watts 250 Watts Power consumption 200–240 Volts AC @ 50–60 Hz 200–240 Volts AC @ 50–60 Hz 200–240 Volts AC @ 50–60 Hz Temperature Operating: 50°F to 95°F (10°C to 35°C) Shipping: -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C) Operating: 50°F to 95°F (10°C to 35°C) Shipping: -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C) Operating: 50°F to 95°F (10°C to 35°C) Shipping: -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C) Note: These are sample configurations.
